Bills release 5 players
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree on the IR, and think there may be more than one. Heard Hodgins hurt his knee a bit. I'll bet right now he's confused why the training staff is telling him, we want to test your reflexes a bit on your knee, and they keep hitting it with a 5 pound sledge. Agree too could see a spare D lineman and/or WR get traded for better line help. Or would they even package Doyle and say DL for better backup tackle. Maybe other team wants a cheaper 9th lineman on the roster. I see the three O lineman cut were three that dressed Friday night, but didn't play one snap. -
A better place for this would have been in the Overreaction Saturday thread! I highly doubt anyone on this board follows every team and has as much access to information at the same level as they do to the Bills, so very easy to have a very large bias for good or bad in regards to anything Bills related.

Overreaction Saturday…whatcha got after BUF/DET?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watching the game last night, I thought the same thing. -
The biggest question to me will be how are the RB's used. There's all this talk of how Breida adds a speed element. But will it be like last year and only two are active on game days. If so then his speed adds no value. Or will that be changed up and activate a 3rd RB at the expense of some other position having one less? Moss is more a power back so again even if their plan was to alternate who's inactive depending on the game plan without all three active, you don't have all the elements. Breida and Moss in particular each add a different element. Not sure what Singletary offers from a unique standpoint??

We need to cut 5 players. Who are they?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd go with: WR Lance Lenoir Either of the bottom two DT's listed CB O Griffin One of the bottom 3 or 4 O lineman DE Mike Love only because he has no shot at making the team, so let him go early and maybe he can catch on somewhere else -
Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 1
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I won't say good/bad but instead call them concerns. First off one comment on one of the Lions kickers, does he also play LB?? He could. I wonder on kickoffs, do they tell him kick the ball then go break up the wedge. From the size of him, think he could. (and yes that has been outlawed) Backup OT is a concern in a number of ways. Thought Doyle, Brown and particularly Hart looked shaky. The issue though to me is how do they handle the numbers there. Assume they keep the two rookies on the 53, do they really want to have to carry 5 OT's on the roster? I believe Bates can play some tackle, but not sure how well, but still may be better than these three. Or do they take a chance and cut Doyle and hope to get him onto the PS? But even then who's the back up that's reliable? Maybe a trade of one of our surplus DL or WR and throw in Doyle for a good back up OT as that also solves the numbers issue? Or does Doyle get a paper cut and ends up on IR? Think there may be a couple of these questionable IR moves made to breakup the log jam, or trades. Admittedly without knowing blocking schemes, hard to totally fault one person, but it didn't look very good. I tend to agree with Gunner in that Webb looked too good last night to sneak onto the PS. What impressed me about him was his poise. He doesn't have the physical skills, but won't seem to make dumb mental mistakes. I was kind of surprised too how long they played him. Could it be the Bills are trying to give the guy a break and show cased him either for a trade or if he is released to give him a good shot at sticking somewhere else? If we're down to the 3rd string QB, we're in trouble anyway so maybe it doesn't matter. Or they sign his replacement off the Sept releases. Don't know what TV in Western NY was on, but for me out of town was the NFL network. As normally done the broadcasters are the home crew. I get it, it saves some money in meaningless pre-season games. So if people in Buffalo have to watch the Detroit guys so be it, could always turn on the Bills radio broadcast too. I'm assuming those were the Bills crew?? But you'd think the NFL network would say these games are being broadcast coast to coast, we'll use your local crew, but you have to at least give the line ups for the visiting teams and state who made the play, catch, run, tackle, etc. and pretend you at least know something about them. In two weeks likely the Bills crew will be broadcasting back to Green Bay, I wonder if they are also this bad with ignoring the visiting team? And then with 15 seconds left at exactly 10:00 right when Bass is lining up for the kick, they had to switch to the Cowboy-Cardinal game as God forbid a Dallas fan might miss the opening kickoff. They did switch back just in time to see the kick, but then immediately back to Dallas. If Detroit had ran the kickoff back for a TD, I never would have known. Normally on Sunday games, showing the ending of a game takes president over the opening kickoff. -
20 years ago I'd have gladly taken a bet with anyone that: Peyton Manning will be a bust Tom Brady will be a bust As long as I could also take the field and make 30 other bets, one per team <Insert name here> will be a bust As I know I'd come out ahead money wise on all those bets if I took the field. I will say these days, not so sure I'd make that bet anymore as there seems to be a resurgence in good QB's. Not sure why??

So what's in the secret menu? I understand if you give me the answer, you'll have to kill me, but I accept. So far about 2/3 of the replies I've got think In and Out is great, so guess I'm in the minority, but honestly just didn't think it was anything different than McDonald's other than the slice of tomato was much redder in color.

Bills play Catan
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So your wife likes the long road? Hmm.... -
Texas is just slightly closer to KC than California is to Buffalo, so the answer is a resounding NO On a side note, don't understand all the love for In-and Out to begin with. Nothing special IMO other than more natural ingredients. Man I've got more negative comments on my post about a burger than I've ever got on anything I've written regarding the Bills!

1st official depth chart has been released
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I take these early depth charts with a grain of salt. Are they listed in the order they are more just for "political" reasons Example; Phillips is listed behind Butler as they feel he has more trade ability so hope to draw interest, If no one inquires come September, Butler is cut and they keep Phillips, same with D Johnson. Stevenson behind Williams just because he's a rookie? Having said all that, I think all 6th and 7th round picks this year are destined for the PS Many here will argue in the past Beane always kept his draft picks, but think it was because that was easy to do due to lack of overall depth. This year can't see him doing that and also improving the overall roster. On offense no wonder the Bills were so good last season, they have 12 players 1st team. Refs never caught that!! LOL Overall to me looks pretty easy, keep the 12 1st teams, all 2nd teamers except J Douglas then add three 3rd teams in Hodgins, Sweeney, and Brieda. Wouldn't also surprise me if the 3rd TE is someone not on the roster today and not necessarily named Etrz either. Could se a pickup there. Not sure how Q Morris is as a blocker, if as good as Sweeney, could see him taking that spot instead. On defense it's a bit more blurry IMO. Certainly all 1st teamers are in. 2nd teamers, think all are locks except Dodson, Butler, Wildgoose, and Hamlin. Wouldn't say they don't make it, but not locks either. Maybe Phillips jumps Butler. Does Wildgoose make it just because they want to keep 6 CB, or instead do they go with 5 CB and 5 S? Or does Cam Lewis make it instead of Wildgoose? Can A Smith play MLB? If so, think he's in and Dodson is out. Not sure you even need a backup for Klein considering how rare they even play 3 LB's. Can T Thompson also play strong safety, if so he makes it over Hamlin. 3rd teamers; Basham, Obada or Johnson (if not both) are in as is Matakevich plus I think Phillips sticks in the end as he is the best natural backup to Star. So that leaves me with 18 1st and 2nd teamers for certain make the team and then a combo of 7 more 2nd and 3rd teamers and won't count out the one 4th teamer in D Johnson. In the end, think it will be 10 D Line, 5 LB, and 10 secondary in some undetermined combination Throw in 3 ST on top of all that so end up with 25 each offense and defense and 3 ST. I also think in the end some of this gets completely blown up as likely one or two legit injuries that lands someone on IR and if no legit ones, then one or two more invented injury moves to IR, that paper cut that just isn't healing right. Example; I think either Doyle or Brown ends up on IR and someone on the D line. Unless Beane can make some trades instead. -
Jerry Hughes finally activated
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup heard, Hughes was activated off the Clovid list!! Well that's what NFL radio reported. Think they may have had a couple of players mixed up on the Bills! -
So you have 23 on offense and 27 on defense. Are you Leslie Frasure's dad? LOL I agree with 6 DE, but can't see 5 DT on top of that and only 5 CB's though see you do have 5 safeties I think instead of Hamlin the 5th safety is Thomson with Hamlin to the PS Think too many people are reading too much into that Beane would always keep his draft picks. With a roster as strong as it is, that may need to change this year. Won't be surprised if all 4 of their 6th and 7th rounders get cut, but all make it to the PS Considering how little the Bills use 3 LB, not sure they need a backup for Klein? Can either Matakevich or Smith also play that position, if so go with 5 there. I think somehow one of the two rookie tackles ends up on IR as they may want some more veteran backup help there. And/or add another body for the line. Likely there will be two DE lineman not making the final roster, could see both of them getting traded along with a RB like Williams and also some of the O lineman to be cut too could become trade bait. Don't think all of them will get traded, but maybe a couple from this bunch. There's usually always one surprise cut, I'll go with the D line there too between Hughes, Addison, or Butler.

Preseason Trade Predictions
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Bates and Boettger stay but would add Hart to the list to O-line potential trades. I also think somehow think one of the rookie tackles will end up on IR, thus saving a spot for Hart. D line think Zimmer stays, trade may be either Johnson or Obada, whomever can yield more in return as not sure the difference between them is that great. Can't see any team willing to take on Hughes and especially Addisons contract. If Hughes doesn't get healthy soon he could be in trouble. On the other hand if he stays on the PUP list they get a free pass and could keep him their as insurance if someone were to get hurt. If Kumerow doesn't make the roster, the team likely to be first in line to sign him would be Green Bay, so can't see them trading for him. On the other hand the 30 other team may be interested to get their hands on him before the Packers do. The only way would be if Beane is ready to deal him elsewhere then Green Bay makes the trade to get him, but not sure if they'd be willing to kind of be black mailed into making the trade either. -
I'm planning to start an investigation into how all these Olympic athletes have been given illegal substances without their knowledge. I feel really really bad for all these athletes and plan to investigate to find out who the guilty party is that's given them these substances without them knowing it. I'm looking for others to help in this tragic situation. So far I've had offers from the group that OJ hired to look for the real killers as they're not real busy these days.

Tyler Kroft is an example of what exactly? A player who took a pay cut, got guaranteed money in exchange and they didn't cut him?? So what TE last year was on the training camp roster that was close or maybe even better talent wise that they cut instead? Don't think there was anyone. That's my point! Beane never it did it before because there was never a reason for him to even consider doing it. Prior to last year the cupboard was pretty bare so not really any vets in danger of being cut. I look at DT as an example there are legit 5 guys competing for at most 4 spots. Oliver and Star are locks, from everything being reported, the next best guy may be Zimmer. Phillips provides a unique trait in that he's the only legit backup for Star so does that give him an inside shot to make roster. That leaves Butler. Do they keep Butler solely because of the contract situation even if the other two help the roster more? Beane has never needed or been in this situation prior to think about doing that. This year with the overall roster depth, things are different and don't think we can go by what was done in the past. As a fan I'll be kind of disappointed if they keep Butler as sounds like they aren't keeping the best players and not trying to improve as best they can.
-
With their contracts and age, can't see a trade happening unless the Bills throw in a draft pick or something of value to get a team to take on these contracts. That just rarely happens in the NFL. Beane has never done it prior, but has there been a need? What players in the past three years took a pay cut and got guaranteed money but was also in the position where there was serious discussion of whether he should be cut. Prior to last year the cupboard was pretty bare so hard to believe there were many vets in danger of being cut to start with. If there were, I don't recall the names. It's not like these guys weren't given anything for their troubles, they both got guaranteed money which they still keep if cut and can sign somewhere else for more money. To me it seems hard for the Bills to improve in 2021 and not hurt themselves in 2022 and beyond without making some more aggressive type moves.

So I went to look up Kumerow's career stats to see how many years he's actually been in the league, went to NFL.com. According to their site he played 6 games in 2020 for New Orleans. No wonder he's under the radar and keeps getting released, last year all the scouts were watching NO tapes to see what he can do and found nothing!! In reality he's had one solid year in Green Bay where he played 14 games. He's still new, was an undrafted rookie, played for a D-III team in college, with that resume it's hard for him to get enough exposure to stick. Rodgers comments have probably done more for his career than anything and sounds like is finally getting a real shot with the Bills to show what he can do. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
