Here's what's kind of funny, and kind of sad: no one in the world was more tuned into Bills football than me in 1992/1993. And I can guarantee you I thoughtfully watched EVERY SECOND of that game. And yet just now I had no memory of that score, and no memory of 9 turnovers! When you say "Pasadena" I have negative thoughts and memories, vaguely, and that we got our butts kicked (again) but I don't remember those details! I think I have driven them out of my memory. I always said I would never watch the Super Bowl games again, and so far, I haven't. Hey Jkeerie, history is history. And it doesn't change. Even if you don't like it. Marv is greatly over-estimated on this board, like most things Bills related!

My gut says he is retired for good this time, but I won't believe it until more time goes by and it's obvious he is not coming back. For now, it feels like he might be back, just as it was before this announcement.

I keep waiting to hear that Rodgers goes to the Jets, and Lamar Jackson goes to Miami! Things could get interesting in one off season. And look at the problems Miami had with Tua's head this year; they accomplished a ton considering the QB time they missed. Still can't believe they nearly beat us at home with a 3rd string QB. I wonder: had they won, would more change occur this offseason?

Yeah, but the Loch Ness Monster is known as "Nessie" and that does not sound like a tough football guy sort of name. "Hey guys, did you see Nessie on that play! He killed the quarterback!" 🤷♂️

Should QB Compensation Be Carved Out of the Salary Cap?
Nextmanup replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
I've often thought about having a separate salary cap or some type of similar control in the league, JUST for the Quarterback position. You would think the NFLPA would love that idea, because the day will come when the QB and a few key players make ALL the money, and everyone else makes league minimum. -

I said this Last Year McDermott lacks the killer instinct.

This may just be my incorrect perception, but... The best OCs out there design a "family" of plays that emerge from an IDENTICAL set with IDENTICAL personnel on the field. But from that look, they can do like 4 totally different things. They might do option 1, two times, and then line up that way on a big 3rd down. The D says "we've seen this before, I know what they are going to do" but then you hit them with option 4 from that same set, and they are caught totally by surprise. To me, this is a part of "advanced" coordinating at the NFL level. Does Dorsey even do things like this? My perception is he does not. How many times have we been penalized for a pick? We should be doing that stuff ALL THE TIME and eventually, you'll get called for it. Hell, when was the last time we ran a successful screen, slants, so many other things! I think this is why our YAC is terrible. The game plan seems to be "run around, when I see you standing somewhere without anyone near you, I'll throw you the ball." And then when it's caught, 3 defenders descend on the receiver with zero shot at gaining extra yardage. -
Ryan Fitzpatrick better option for QB coach
Nextmanup replied to Figster's topic in The Stadium Wall
I lost track of Fitz's career earnings several years ago. At that time, it was north of $65 million! He is not going to want to be a position coach in the NFL....and doesn't he have like 13 children? In that regard, he is not so far removed from the Civil War time period after all! -
Would you resign Edmunds or a tackle?
Nextmanup replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
I have heard a bunch of talking head "experts" discuss Tremaine and they are saying he is likely to get more like $15 million + per season. I hope we just let the guy go. -
How about having a vibrating pager type device on the head referee's belt or wherever. Synch it up to the "official" clock, whatever that is. The moment it hits zero, it buzzes and he feels that, while being able to LOOK and see if the ball is snapped. If the snap is late, he throws the flag and the play doesn't count, even if the play began.

Dust has settled...Alphas look at what lies ahead
Nextmanup replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
We are likely in a mini state of decline right now. After next season, that will be more obvious. UNLESS we recognize that NOW and do something to preempt it this off-season. This is going to be the most important off-season for Beane and McDermott in a while. Staying about the same will be going backward. Making small improvements will amount to staying about the same. Gotta do more than that, if the goal is to compete with the best 3 or 4 teams in the league and WIN a Super Bowl. -
Buying a pair of tickets to the Super Bowl for $14,000 would be about the 475th best use for the money I can think of. SBs don't do it for me; they have a boring, stuffy, corporate crowd and lack fan participation, and they are often in domes....and played by teams not named Buffalo Bills. Hey, to each their own, I guess.

Dawkins, Saffold and Knox added to Pro Bowl
Nextmanup replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
So Josh blew the pro bowl off, huh? LOL They really need to stop doing this thing. Just name players to the team as an honor, and be done with it. In the old days, I think the players went mostly for the trip to Hawaii! Now, they can just buy their own island and go whenever they want. -
Or how about Dahlin?! The Sabres have proven to my satisfaction that "player development" is very much a real thing. Send one draft pick to horrible franchise A, and he becomes a bust. Had he gone to great franchise B, he might have blossomed into a star. Not to go too far off topic here, but simply b/c I can't stand the guy and never could, it's worth pointing out that Ralph Krueger HAS to be the worst HC in Sabres franchise history. He's not even a coach; he's more of a self-help book quoting new age quack.

Nextmanup replied to Rebel101's topic in The Stadium Wall
I was going to suggest the same thing. Talking about "killer instinct" is sports fan gibberish. But if the OP is trying to say that McDermott becomes VERY conservative in the playoffs, he's absolutely right. McDermott has slowly developed from a stupid, very conservative game coach, to one that is smarter, more informed, and much, much more risk taking. He's really improved in that manner and is much better using the clock at the end of halves, 4th down decisions have been much better, etc. He's still god awful with challenges, however. But he reverts back to his old self come playoff time. Super conservative and utterly risk averse. I don't think that is the right attitude for winning in the playoffs. He's like 2 different coaches in that regard. -
For what it's worth, I am active at a Buffalo Sabres forum where the general IQ level is much higher than here. I'm not talking about Sabrespace. Folks are pretty darned accurate there with their predictions/wants for the team. One guy hypothesized the entire big trade to get Ryan O'Reilly before we did the big deal with Colorado to get him and so on. Here? I'm sure some guys have said some stuff that came true but who knows. Most commentary here is intra-fan related, with petty fights between fans about nonsense.

Im convinced its coaching (Chiefs showing how to handle Bengals)
Nextmanup replied to Scott7975's topic in The Stadium Wall
On defense we run the same scheme something like 80 or 90% of the time...you can look that up. There have been several comments made by opposing players this year, on offense and defense, saying "We knew just what they were going to do and they did it. We studied it all week on film." -
Seriously? He's afraid Josh is going to re-injure his elbow playing golf. You feeling OK?
-
He shouldn't be back IMO.

I would LOVE Gronk on this team and have been saying for for a few years now. I'm not sure how much he has left in the tank, and he just indicated on a podcast that the Bills were pursuing him LAST YEAR. He said something like "If it was meant to be, it would have happened then, but it didn't." So if he is 100% not coming here, there isn't much to talk about.

Seeing as you're Sgt. Hulka, and threw a nice quote out there, I thought I'd add this on the same point: "It is even better to act quickly and err than to hesitate until the time for action has passed." -Carl von Clausewitz -

You know, if you add up a few things regarding Beasley over the last few years, it's not that hard to figure out that this guy is a complete, total, and utter idiot. The thing is, in the NFL, he blends in with the crowd! 😁 I hope his rap career is successful, because his football career is over. -
Cowboys looking for an OC - part ways with Moore
Nextmanup replied to Big Blitz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Here's yet more evidence of how franchises that expect to win handle "successful" or "winning" seasons... Dallas didn't exactly have a bad year, and here they are, firing a coordinator. The Bills should take note.
