  1. This was my reaction when we hired him, but he really has had no talent to work with and if this OL doesn't up their game a lot, he may be in for a repeat performance. I feel for the guy, actually. Let's hope this offense is much, much better than they looked in preseason.
  2. This is very discouraging news. The secondary is our strongest unit or at least as good as our RB's, but the depth is nonexistent at this time. We really need Davis to step up.
  3. Optimistic for 2019, yes. 2018, not so much because of all the dead cap space. Brighter days are ahead, though.
  4. I go into this season with low expectations for 2018, but I still think this rebuild was necessary and better days are ahead.
  5. I don't know about drafting a DT with the 1st pick. If there's a good QB available and we actually do get the 1st pick, I think we'll trade down and bolster the OL and WR corps first.
  6. I'm sure I'd get different results if I played this one out again, but these games never come out the same as the last.
  7. I use my own, more realistic sliders and let computer vs computer play out. Mind you, I don't claim that this is anything remotely reliable for predicting actual outcomes, but it's fun, so let's get to it. To begin, Petermann's OVRL rating is a disgraceful 68. I feared the worst, but was pleasantly surprised as the Bills converted a BAL red zone fumble to halt the Ravens 2nd drive and then marched 64 yards to open the scoring at 7-0 BUF. The Bills went on to mount a 20-3 halftime lead behind solid defense. The secondary played exceptionally well in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, the Ravens caught fire and tied the game in the 4Q at 23-23. It looked like the Bills were going to let this one get away, but in the final minute, as BAL was driving for the game winning score, Matt Milano stepped in front of BAL RB Dixon and ran 59 yards for the game winning TD with 0:12 left on the clock, sending the BAL fans to the parking lot frustrated again by these Bills. M Milano was the defensive player of the game with 11 TKL, 1 TFL & the game winning pick 6. C Clay was the offensive player of the game with a 110 yd. performance and a TD. Key Stats: Flacco - 30/51, 381 YDS, 3 TD, 1 INT Petermann - 20/33, 309 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT C. Clay 7 REC, 110 YDS, 1 TD L McCoy 20 ATT, 83 YDS Collins (BAL) 19 ATT, 36 YDS Others worth mentioning: - M Hyde also had a blocked punt that lead to a 12 YD N Petermann - C Clay TD pass. - S Hauschka went 3/4, missing his longest attempt of 54 YDS, but later nailed a 52 yarder. - K Benjamin hauled in a 52 YD N Petermann pass for the Bills 2nd TD. - Ivory had a 12 YD TD run. - The rookie MLB was largely invisible, netting only a single solo stop and 3 assists and a PDEF. - The Bills offense was anything but conservative as Petermann's numbers suggest. - The dominant 1st half defense got really leaky in the 2nd half, but came through in the end to seal a very impressive road win against a tough opponent. - Petermann had a handful of really ugly plays, but was consistent and made a lot of key 3rd down completions. He was not spectacular, but came through time and time again in the clutch despite his awful ratings in the Madden game. - Kyle, T Murphy and J Hughes each had a sack. BAL had 4 sacks on Petermann.
  8. Plenty of blame for 17 years of futility, but few fans questioned the move at the time. I say let's stick to the more valid criticism if we must go down that path.
  9. I doubt it. When they put Allen in, it will be for good unless he stinks it up and was filling in while Petermann was recovering -- a distinct possibility.
  10. It looks like they're desparate for OL help, but in the end they're just doing their jobs, leaving no stone unturned.
  11. No. A few clear and examples based on relative attributes like word usage, paragraph structure might. In fact, if he weren't a good writer, people wouldn't whine about him so much because his articles wouldn't evoke any emotional response. Also, "prosperous" is not necessarily a relevant response here and was not mentioned by anyone at the BN. It's just as likely that he was given poor career choices at the end because so many fans just didn't want to hear the truth.
  12. You have a very low opinion of our HC. You talk like you can read his mind and you know his reasoning or lack thereof. Quick! What number am I thinking of? Should be easy for you.
  13. I'll say this much. The BN coverage of the Bklls has gotten a lot more boring since Sully left. As far as Sully not being a 'good writer', I've yet to see a clear and concise example of this from anyone. Sorry, but your say so isn't at all convincing.
  14. No surprises here except that the defense was ranked higher than the offense. We had little talent last year and made the most of it. With a sieve as an OL, I think this offense will be last or very near last in scoring. Feel free to flame me after they prove me wrong and I promise I won't mind at all. Somehow, Frazier will get them to overperform on D.
  15. Richie makes a perfectly valid point. He may be crazy, but his point is valid. We have the worst OL in the NFL right now -- maybe the worst in franchise history. I see no one is disputing the facts he presents. He's right. The 3 players we've lost are far better than the guys replacing them and Wood was terrible. Glenn was playing on a bad foot, so they gave up on him. Forget drafting a WR or CB or LB in rounds 1-3 nest year LOL. They'll be drafting a bunch of OL. They can't start Allen behind this OL and they know it.
  16. The underlying assumption here is that we are better than we look. We aren't. Other teams hold certain things back too. Our OL is a disaster right now. Groy beat out the competition at C. I rest my case.
  17. We are 31st in the current power rankings. Only the talentless Colts (other than Luck) are ranked lower. I see no reason why this should surprise anyone. That said, I think Petermann is better than most everyone assumes, but he's going to be running for his life and have few open receivers to throw to in order to get the ball out quickly. Yes, he is better than they think, but I doubt he'll have a chance to show it. This OL struggled last year and at times were completely overmatched. Now they are even worse. I hope Petermann survives.
  18. Why? He's just not very good, even as a backup. He can play all 3 interior positions, but even while OL talent is in short supply he could easily be replaced.
  19. Quality WR's and CB's are a whole lot easier to come by in FA (if you have the cap space) than even G's and C's these days. You are 100% correct.
  20. You want all that talent and you really want to keep Groy? Mills? If we use our top 2 picks on the OL, they might not even make the roster.
  21. I disagree. LG, C, RG and RT are ALL problems and Dawkins should be moved to the other side.
  22. Why? He's way, way too light to play DT. Not a good fit at all.
