  1. there were definitely some self inflicted growing pains swept under the rug of “cleaning up the old regimes cap mess” i do think there’s been growth though.
  2. it’s gotten better but a lot on the board don’t use restructure in the same meaning as most of the league. a pay cut is a pay cut, but restructure almost always refers to converting salary to bonus to reduce current year cap at expense of future flexibility
  3. you say it’s easy, but he still didn’t do great. Many of the grades were questionable at best (especially in round 2 where getting a solid starter is a success) and the proper picks were pretty inconsistent.
  4. yea I disagreed with that statement too. I guess by year 3-4 dead money will be low and cap hit high, but that’s alway the situation and a lot of guys are seeking new guarantees by then anyway.
  5. I read the article. I have no doubt they chatted. I don’t think anything referenced was particularly ground breaking for Rivera’s professional development though. Do you? sure, the mentor picks some stuff up too when bouncing around ideas and chatting with the young guns - no doubt. But broad strokes, “the process” isn’t that novel. not meant insulting in any way. Just don’t think the bills effected the WFT development tooooo much.
  6. As beane and McDermott learned under Rivera originally, I’d imagine the tutelage may have run the other way a bit more than this thread will portray.
  7. That’s definitely a different thread
  8. playing with a lead, and the chiefs line being thinner both helped, but their front 4 are nastier pass rushers and lbs better in space too. Double whammy when evaluating what the gap was.
  9. Tampa got to play with a lead most of the game - that helps them key in on a one dimensional offense Tampa played against an injured OL the whole day, that helps their already more talented DL get pressure while also playing with a lead. they covered Kelce with tough physical presence. And sat a safety over tyreek. kc needed to see Watkins or hardman make a play to break the game back open and bust the simple defensive shell. Neither guy made that play. yup. you can get a really athletic LB in the 20s still. An edge rusher is harder but not impossible. I’d think they hope Oliver continues to develop and Edmunds gets healthy though.
  10. but would have everyone in the same boat so we should still be very good
  11. it’d be stranger if it were hot and he had to steal it
  12. it’s not difficult. you paid the guy money that hasn’t been accounted for in the cap yet. Dropping the salary reduces Drew’s short term number being carried without changing the dead money and then June 1 his dead money can be split over 2 seasons when he comes off the roster after that accounting deadline the entire storyline of September was that he had one of the worst “air yards per pass” in the league. Unless the shoulder was injured in the offseason, the issue isn’t going away. It was there before the rib injury.
  13. this was the season to have a guy like yannick or Clowney. Just picking a few available names from last offseason. They weren’t week to week needs but in late January/February our front 7 was not going to be good enough.
  14. I still think he re-aggravated something in the divisional game he still ran some but the designed runs disappeared and his mannerisms/mechanics all tightened up on that side
  15. he’s a talented athlete, that has struggled. I don’t doubt that’s a combo of scheme, d line, youth, and probably some skill issues too. Not to mention injury. he too often guesses the wrong hole, and when he gets there he’s rarely a missile... but with a bum shoulder and not great DT play.... would we expect him to be firing through and blowing up everything? it’s tough to evaluate him this year and he is walking into a major “prove it” season.
  16. the only thing that gives me pause is Sherman’s intensity and success. I think he could’ve been moved the needle in the AFCCG with how the defense walked into the building as poyer was wrong when he said they had been through everything already. They hadn’t been in the biggest game against the best team and that’s a big jump from even the regular season game against the chiefs. that said, not sure he works out as that leader as a depth guy.
  17. You would remain a team in need of a qb
  18. he’s been incredibly lazy with his mechanics, and inconsistent with his self care. I’m hoping josh will age better, but you never know what any Sunday will bring
  19. restructure a few guys, and cut a couple others. if you can send taysom to Houston in the package it’d be a huge win. Brees could officially retire after June 1 also as a zero impact to the roster but big cap swing option
  20. they don’t even have to convert 50% to come out ahead going for it. You have to take the shot. You aren’t winning with fgs there so I’d rather lose not converting touchdowns
  21. russ Brandon really ruined some of you by selling the cash to cap structure. it’s not the overwhelming structure here nor is it particularly viable. The only way you are getting low bonus, and low guaranteed salary guys is if you are getting either bad or high risk players.
  22. signing bonus will amortize evenly across the first 5 years of any deal. the rest would depend greatly on the contracts themselves. For instance josh could rip up the rest and start fresh, or simply add years. Where they add the money would effect the cap hits. If he had a signing bonus, obviously would be the case, that gets amortized
  23. it wasn’t a statement of confidence as if “we don’t even need this tool”
  24. I thought he clearly acknowledged that aggressive move in September followed by consistent safe ones in the afccg sends the message about which guy he is in his heart of hearts still. We will see if it was a lesson learned.
  25. if the chiefs get 5 or so years in championship games, a hard rest for 2-3 years at .500 and then wrap with about 5 or so more of super bowl contention we’d all sign up for that for our team
