yea, that basically buys you two swings at the position with hopes you can come close to an elite option. I’d probably be ok with the Lawrence tier if arms were twisted but a great qb is such a talent multiplier for the other 52

I’m not sure how to spell it out differently I speculated that rashee rice, a talented young receiver - who just wrecked 6 figures worth of cars, facing 7 figure lawsuits, and likely huge legal bills… potentially seeing his earnings reduced by suspension in year 2 of his modest rookie deal could feel very cash poor and at the end of his 3rd year (earliest opportunity) seek an extension to put some cash in his pocket even though he will have very limited leverage

young guy quickly going upside down on cash flow maybe wanting an infusion of new money earlier than he should and without as much leverage think Henry, Travis

but a pairing of Sutton plus a second tier rookie could be a viable bridge across the next 2-3 years with a 4 deep group depending entirely on Suttons price

I think same page here And have really been talking myself into it post diggs. tight ends normally have a learning curve so we may see a jump there. I like Samuel over Davis if we can improve diggs spot - it could be a hell of a step forward for this group. And I’m not opposed to our weapons being overkill back up those safeties and cook can feast. It’ll take pressure off Josh (imagine him getting to the playoffs much healthier) It lets the defense turn one dimensional and takes pressure off. that patriots team was an absolute scoring machine.

Similarly I’d challenge: we don’t know how long Josh will last and this WR selection will be among the most defining pieces of our window the next couple years. Do you play games with that in order to get a third? Or do you get that guy if he’s there?

Yea, if you stay put or fall back you really limit the pool unless as you mention you get 2 guys. other vet trades- had interest in Hopkins previously and could still be the bridge to a guy like leggette being ready. Not a star at this point but would be a win now vet presence

even if not a career guy for the bills- if he’s elite and he’s paired with Josh as an elite prospect he should be a star in the league he will a superstar haul to trade in 5 years tyreek was a 1-2-4-4-6(?) if we trade up we could reasonably expect to get a lot of the haul back

I still think people are forgetting that the pats with miss scored 140 points more than we did last year and in one fewer game. they were an absolute buzz saw a true menace to the league. and they got unlucky at the worst time but boy would I be good to go with that route instead of the chiefs 2023 model

It’s just worrisome to walk into the year with samuel- Shakir - 3rd tier rookie that is not a slam dunk and even if good likely takes some time to get there. I said it elsewhere but the idea that we could be week 1 with Shakir- a very green leggette -shorter and hollins if Curtis Samuel rolls an ankle or pulls a muscle in camp is not great. suddenly it puts some of that super man requirement on Josh way too early in the season

I got a little curious and clicked through a few old profiles and will agree that the smith writeups/grades were a shade higher than I expected. In my head he wasn’t a guy that had quite the accolades that he actually did i keep think of jamarr chase as that gold standard type player, right? Prototype athleticism, big production, and both a high floor and a high ceiling. Unlikely to bust, and truly having expectation that he could be in the rare air at the top. The Andrew luck qb. The aj green/Julio Jones draft year for wr. I’ll be totally honest, I haven’t spent a ton with this set of 3. Post-diggs I spent a little more and am working on my opinions that I think they are a cut above the normal top wr prospects, and working on whether my convictions are truly in the next level or if there may be some 1.5er talent mixed in there like you referred to smith (and of course that doesn’t mean bust like smith but more potential on the table for that to happen).
