Should the Bills bring in Marcel Dareus?
billsfan89 replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If there was no past baggage with the coaching staff I wouldn't hate the move considering that he is a solid to good run stuffer. But considering the negative history I would rather take on Snacks Harrison. -
Cowboys should win that division with 8 or 9 wins, Eagles are a 6ish win team and the Washington and Giants teams are 5 or less win teams.

I know Addison and Hyde came back but Dawkins and brown probably didn't from what I remember. Brown should probably take a week off, Davis can fill in for a week, need Brown fully healthy long term. Dawkins would be a serious concern but I actually trust Ty to fill in for a week.

Tremaine Edmunds and the run game
billsfan89 replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope Edumonds learns from this game, he seemed to find his groove against the run last year but this game was not his best effort. I hope that shoulder isn't making him more tentative and making him less effective. Add in coming off of an injury. -
This defense should get better.

The defense only gave up 21 points to a decent Miami team (7 points scored in garbage time) despite having Edumonds and Milano out (a point where Miami exploited.) The defense was also good against the Jets (not much but if you aren't going to be good against the Jets who are you going to be good against?) The Rams game was a concern but let's not overlook the fact that the Rams are likely to finish as a top 5-7 offense in the league and the defense was put in a bad spot twice by the offense with turnovers (one off a bad call but still counts.) Overall I think the defense might need to bring in some help at DT but so far I think 2 out of 3 games the defense played solid or better in. Norman coming back won't hurt but in the end I think the D-line needs to be put in a better position to have success. -
I am not too alarmed by the coaching. Had the team not turned the ball over twice (one on a completely BS call) the Rams would have had a harder time to rally. That INT gave the Rams some life and then the fumble by Josh (and a bad penalty) basically legitimized their rally and made things easier for them. Great teams have an offense and defense that complement each other. And the offense via the turnovers and the lack of moving the ball compromised the defense against a very strong offense.

Happy with the win, not happy with the coaching staff

The offense turned the ball over twice during the Rams rally and had 1 or 2 (from what I remember) three and outs. That's not going to help a defense against an elite offense. -

This team had a 25 point lead fairly quickly cut to 18 when the Rams went back down and scored. There was then a turnover (on a bogus call) that the Rams cashed in on which cut the lead to 11. Then the offense does a good job mixing the run and pass getting the ball into Rams territory before a bad penalty and turnover by Josh get the Rams the ball at their own 35. By then the Rams were rolling with momentum and deep in Bills territory. The offense put the defense in a bad position and the defense didn't respond. I don't know if they should have been running the ball that much more because Josh was effectively moving the ball they just got a bad call against them and a sloppy play by Josh. -

The announcers were right in that there is no horsecollar in the pocket, its a bad exception to the rule but it is there. I do agree that INT call was bad. I would also say that they should have let the facemask call go but it wasn't a bad call either. The Bills did get a 50/50 call on the PI against Davis so there is that. -
Can we talk about Brian Winters?

I can't hold getting owned by Aaron Donald against someone. But the coaching staff should have been consistently doubling Donald. I felt like there were a lot of plays the guards or Mitch were put on an island against him. -
Josh Allen - week THREE report card
billsfan89 replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I will give Josh a B. This game showed off what he still has to work on. Ball security and turnover aversion. He needs to hold onto the ball with two hands, he will have a lot more fumbles lost that could cost this team games if he continues with that sloppy habit. However he did get this team 5 TD's and put together the comeback when it mattered most. Another blatant issue in my opinion was the unsportsmen like conduct penalty which made a bad situation worse. Josh had a good game but it should have been a great game. He has somethings he needs to work on but he is getting there. Hopefully he handles Vegas and this team can get 4-0. -
Fitz picked apart the middle of the defense with Milano and Edumonds out and the defense only gave up 21 points when it counted. The Rams are a great offense and scored twice when the offense put them in a bad position. Yes I think the defense could use some help up the middle but I am not ready to say this defense sucks because of one bad game against a top 5-7 offense in the league with two bad turnovers.

Every team has faults but if the defense can tighten up a bit I think this is as about as complete a team you can have in the salary cap era. -

The Rams will be one of the top 7 offenses if they stay fairly healthy. They have Cupp and Woods along with solid complementary parts like Higbee and Reynolds in the receiving game. They have a good rotation of running backs and have seemingly solved their O-line issues that sank their 2019 season. They also have a good or at least decent defense with the most dynamic defensive player in the league. The Bills made 2 key mistakes one off a bad call (the Kroft INT) and the other a self inflicted mistake (the fumble and penalty) that gave the Rams all they needed to nearly complete a comeback. Good teams win these types of games, the Bills have somethings to figure out on defense and Josh has ball security issues he needs to tighten up. Onto the Raiders. -
I wouldn't say that just yet, the defense was good against the Jets (not saying much but still) and was decent against the Fins (only really let up 21 points as that last TD was garbage time) they let up a lot of points against the Rams who likely will finish as a top 7 offense in the league. And while the rush defense was a concern Josh did hand the Rams two turnovers and put the defense in bad field position. I think the defense needs help up the middle but I think they aren't a glaring weakness. In the middle of last season the rushing defense (with Star in there) was terrible. The only player they added was Lugient who was kind of just a JAG at that point and due to scheme changes the rush defense played a lot better. I am not opposed to brining in another DT to send a message to the others on the roster but this team needs to man up and just execute better.

That's a 50/50 type call, its not an illegitimate type call but it isn't an obvious type call either. If that was called against the Bills the fan in me would be pissed but I also as an objective person can't say that it wasn't something that could have been called either. -

I will say it again and again, great teams find ways to win close games. Yes they should have cruised to a 2 possession victory, yes the defense was not impressive and Josh had some shaky moments. But the Rams are a very good team, they will be a top 10 if not top 5 offense in the league when all is said and done. Their defense is a legit average or better defense and while the game was a home game that doesn't mean what it used to. Overall it was impressive to see Josh take the big moment and win. Yes that call against Davis was a bit of a toss up call (but certainly not a blatant gift) and the INT call that gave the Rams a lot of momentum was bogus but in the end you take a win against a good team. You play a Raiders team that isn't a joke and then a tough Titans team before going into KC. Take the W and push for 4-0. -
Time for Tyler Kroft to step up EDIT: He Did!!!
billsfan89 replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
His issue in my mind was health in 2019, so I never really knew what to think of his on field performance since he was rarely on the field. He certainly should get more snaps and do a split with Knox. I still like Knox long term but he might benefit from less snaps to come along more slowly. -

Kroft had a nice game, there were huge yardage numbers but he got the two TD's and was very active on the field. Man what a crazy game! -

It was solid enough in week 1 and 2 and it tightened up the back end of last season. It was just that weird stretch in the middle of last season it has been an issue along with today. Always frustrating.
