Would You Want Ryan Fitzpatrick Back in Buffalo in 2021?
billsfan89 replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's a solid point. However keeping it to the "modern" NFL only (Just for sake of argument post 2000, as that's around the time the league really started to shift away from running) I think that the Eagles with Foles got lucky that there was another QB in the league that they knew functioned well in their system AND was available for dirt cheap after flaming out other places. The Eagles have a system (and O-line up until the past 2 years) that makes any QB look a lot better for 2 decades now. As much as I like what Daboll has grown into and what the Bills are building I am not so sure the offense's success is due to a system that can plug in any QB and make it better. The offense has a lot of talent but I am not so sure that the offense is a system that is so overtly friendly to QB's. So I think the Foles example is one where a lot of fluky circumstances came together as opposed to something that is repeatable. I am not opposed to the idea of upgrading the backup QB position. But is it worth a lot of cap space (Let's say 7-10 million?) I think Andy Dalton is one of the best backup QB's going into the season but if let's say he was the Bills backup and Josh got hurt is Dalton taking the Bills beyond the divisional round? If Josh went down for 4 games I think this team could go 2-2 with Barkley easily. That's kind of the best you can hope for from a backup QB at this point. I think they hope they can develop Fromm into that stellar backup. -

I think the Bills are fine with Barkely, honestly even if the Bills had a "good" backup QB any long term injury to Josh ***** the season no matter what. -
Game Plan vs. Titans: Stopping Derrick Henry
billsfan89 replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills shut down Jacobs last week for the most part. Henry is a different beast all together. Hopefully the Bills can limit him and not let him grind the ball 25 plus times for 125 or more yards. -
Reasons why I should vote for Biden.....
billsfan89 replied to Westside's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I hope this helps. I would also like to ask what does the GOP and Trump really offer? Trump is basically George W Bush's policy agenda (tax cuts, deregulation, climate change denial, drill baby drill, neo-conservative foreign policy and literally the same immigration plan and literally 90% of his polices are the Bush policies or very similar) dressed up with a deranged lunatic Tweeting. 1- Antifa isn't a formal organization and BLM as a group has gone far away from their initial message. Neither idea nor group is more a part of the mainstream Democratic party than the Proud Boys or other far right extremist groups are part of the formal mainstream Republican party. Yes while I am sure you can find some Democratic politicians who might have good things to say or some sort of association with either BLM or Antifa they aren't part of the mainstream of the party. As I similarly said I am sure you can find people in the GOP who have affiliations with far right extremist groups that doesn't mean that those groups are carrying any weight in the party. 2- Biden's climate plan is far from the Green New Deal. It is a 30 year plan to get America carbon neutral, it phases out coal (which is antiquated) and other forms of fossil fuel in favor of nuclear and renewable energy. The way you are phrasing the question is like you think Biden is going to come in and in two years he is going to shut down all energy production. His plan is a sensible phased in plan that basically shifts away new energy investment more heavily towards renewables vs. keep throwing money at fossil fuels. The economy could really use the Green Energy jobs that the plan provides. 3- I assume that the US like most countries (Japan has already begun to do this) is going to shift pharmaceutical production and medical equipment production back home, this will happen regardless of who wins the election as I think this will be heavily mandated by the public, the military and various other industries that the Congress actually listens to. Similarly to how weapons are made in the US because it is a national security issue medical supplies and PPE will be subsidized to be made in the US. As far as free trade with China in general I assume Biden will keep the status quo. However keep in mind that Trump's ideal trade policy with China isn't protectionist, Trump's ideal trade policy is both nations having completely free trade. So if you think Trump is going to try and put up trade barriers to China then you are completely wrong he wants to remove all of them. 4- Biden has stated that he wouldn't raise taxes on any family making less than 400k. I generally believe this because when Obama rolled back the Bush tax cuts he did so only for the top bracket, the middle and upper middle class brackets had their tax cuts stay. The Trump tax bill hasn't really put much money back into the middle class. The tax cuts removal of SALT and other deductions that are used by middle class people mitigated the actual money received by those making middle class wages. Generally speaking if you make under 400k I really don't see Biden raising taxes. Even Bernie Sanders who had a much larger vision only raised taxes to fund universal healthcare (which was basically replacing private taxes aka premiums, deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance and out of pocket costs with a small increase to people's taxes and a payroll tax paid for by the employer who wouldn't have to pay for employees insurance premiums.) The Democrats main stream wing would be considered a conservative party in any other first world nation. Angela Merkel in Germany for example is considered a center right leader. The mainstream Dems prefer more gradual changes and tweaks to the system as opposed to the GOP whose platform just seems to be either everything is fine or cut taxes and regulations no matter what. -
Revisting 2019 Draft - D.K. Metcalf?
billsfan89 replied to Houston's #1 Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wanted the Bills to take Ford early in round 2, however once DK started to fall deep into the second around pick 55ish I really wanted the Bills to trade back into round 2 for him. He had a big injury history but he was/is a freak talent worth a late second round pick. By the time it was pick 60 I was really angry the Bills weren't making the move. By around pick 60 the Bills only had to trade up 14 spots from pick 74. I thought the Bills could have traded pick 112 and 74 to get him around pick 60. It would have been a great moment to build both sides of the trenches with Oliver and Ford while adding a weapon for Josh. It ended up being Singletary at pick 74 which seems to be working out. Ford is going to be a solid to pro-bowl guard for many years to come. Stop complaining. -
Titans player test positive today 10/7
billsfan89 replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NFL needed to have a league wide bye week in the middle and at the end of the season. It would have allowed for up to 3 games per team to be rescheduled into those weeks and the individual team's bye. I think that it might just be easier for them to forfeit these two games and try to make it against their opponent in week 6. -
Players on 1-7 and 2-6 teams are still playing for their careers and I doubt they want to take a 5 or 6 figure fine and risk possible long term damage a Covid infection might come with. It's more so the organization who needs to be steeply punished in a way that makes it so punitive that it isn't worth any risk to be careless. A massive fine and docking a 1st round pick seems kind of lite in my opinion. I don't know if forfeiting the games is a good idea but something more than money and draft picks needs to be involved.

McDermott: Cody Ford will remain at Guard
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I also think the NFL is going to smooth out the cap decrease so that the cap isn't crunched and then rapidly increased. I think they will take some money from 2022 and 2023 and apply it to 2021. I think there will either be a small decrease or a flat cap in 2021 but the increases to the cap that were projected in 2022 and 2023 are unlikely to manifest themselves as much. -
An NFL bubble would have to be regional sequestering 4-8 teams and then shifting them around. Basketball and Hockey were easier to do, less players and less staff and just the post season (thus they could have cut out several teams.) Football would likely be able to do something like that for the playoffs.
-
The NFL should delay the start of the playoffs two weeks to add in a week 18 and 19 if needed (playoffs could be moved up a week if no week 19 is needed.) The injury bug has hit the NFL hard and it might benefit everyone to have a week or two off before the playoffs anyway. Overall the NFL bungled the season by not having it be 19 weeks with 2 league wide bye weeks baked in. They could have used those league wide bye weeks to reschedule any Covid games.
-
It obviously wouldn't be fair to the rest of the league. The football fan in me would hate to see it BUT The Bills fan in me would love to give the Bills a free win and a free bye week at the same time. Honestly the Titans deserve to be severely punished for their negligence and the NFL failed to add in extra weeks to the season to compensate for this type of scenario.
-
Hell yes, win with no injuries or even wear and tear? Sign me up, I get the competitive aspect of it but overall it would be such a huge advantage for the Bills to get a win/bye for free into the hardest game of the season

Honestly the defense has been far from elite but it hasn't been as tragic as fans are making it out to be. Looking at all 4 games individually and I only see one bad game out of the 4. The defense shut down the Jets as they should have (10 points given up 7 more in garbage time.) The Fins beat up the defense over the middle with Milano and Edumonds out but the defense only let up 21 points when it mattered (7 points given up in garbage time.) The Rams game was tragic but the offense did muff the ball twice in that run so the defense was hung out to dry a bit. And in the Raiders game the defense clamped down in the second half and only let up 16 points when the game was on the line (7 points in garbage time.) If you factor out the three garbage time TD's they gave up against the Jets, Fins and Raiders the points given up by the defense are 10, 21, 32 and 16. That's an average of 19.75 points per-game given up. Given the inflated offense this season due to the weird off-season I think it is healthy to say that just under 20 points per game is at least an above average defense. I know writing off garbage time TD's is a big cheap but context matters in this instance since those garbage TD's were given up when the game was out of reach.

I think the blocking has been better on the return unit. Could be what is giving him more space to accelerate? Unless he was battling an injury last year? I think it's most likely a combo. I think the ST additions of guys like Tawain Jones and Matakevich could be leading to better blocking. A muffed punt can cost games, yes what he adds on kickoffs is limited but just being a good punt returner who can reliably field the ball and break off the occasional 10+ yard return is bigger than fans give it credit for. He isn't making 4-5 million to be a returner he is making 2 million. I think a lot of fans are making it seem like Roberts is making a lot more than he is.
-
How quickly fans forget how a botched return could easily cost you games. In 2018 the Bills lost a game against the Jets because their return game was horrid and Roberts shifted field position for the Jets, there was also 1-2 other games that had bad return miscues that put games out of reach. I don't even have to go back to 2008 with McKelvin... Simply put Roberts is a key component of the ST unit and someone who while maybe not a dramatically great returner like Devin Hester or Dante Hall is still someone that is reliable (thus avoids costly turnovers) and can subtly shift field position. He is a top 10 returner with top 5 potential. That's easily worth the 2 million he gets paid. And this year unlike last year he is breaking off bigger returns and that's helping to really shift field position in key moments. I have no idea how any fan could have wanted to cut him to roster a JAG receiver like Foster or Duke. No offense to either guy but neither fills a niche and role like Roberts.

It kind of reminds me of the Bills when they would bring in a young QB. Guys like JP, EJ and Trent while they may never have been a top 5 QB were certainly done no favors by being in a dysfunctional organization. The Washington Team is a bad spot for a young QB to be in. Their organization is a complete mess and they lack on field talent. I think Haskins might be best served to be traded to a team like Pittsburgh. He needs to go to a team that can groom him behind a vet QB for a year or two to regain his confidence and enter into a good situation on the field. Even if he were to do that he might still be a bust but landing in a bad situation like Washington is not helping him.
-
I thought Josh was going to push to be a top 10 QB this season. I thought he went from really raw rookie to solid mid-level starter from 2018 to 2019. I thought he would still have trouble with the hero ball (which he still does to a degree) and that he would need to feel more comfortable in the pocket consistently. And so far he has looked to be comfortable and processing the game quickly. If he can tighten up the hero ball stuff just a little the sky is the limit with this kid.

Anyone Else Having Trouble Dealing with this Success?
billsfan89 replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Honestly it wasn't even that long ago the team was 6-10 in 2018 so enjoy the success. The team has earned it, the fanbase and ownership have earned it. Just take it one week at a time. -
Milano is week-to-week with injury
billsfan89 replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A one year "prove it" deal might be what he wants and if I were the Bills I would take it, it allows you to draft a player in the 3rd-5th round behind him and have a year to break him in. I am not sure if 2022 the cap will jump as much as predicted. I think the NFL and NFLPA are going to "smooth" out the cap decrease for 2021. Which will lead to either a minor cut in the 2021 cap or a flat rate from 2020 to 2021 but then the increase in 2022 would be smaller. Kind of robbing 2022's cap to make the 2021 cap less bad. I think the owners, GM's and players all want to avoid a deep cut in 2021 and then a wild swing in 2022. If the case is that the cap will be smoothed out then Milano might be better taking a two year deal and waiting for a bigger cap increase in 2023. Either way if Milano's inconsistent health seems to hit his market value having him back for one more year on a moderate deal of 7-8 million would be a win win for both sides. -
The packers really blew it selecting Love
billsfan89 replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get why the Packers did what they did, I just think it was looking a bit too far in the future. I think they were better off adding a piece to help now and finding a QB to develop in a year or two. Green Bay is well run they probably made the right call, my issue was could they have held off to better help the all time great QB they have now? I personally didn't see Love as a special QB too good not to take a chance on (much like how Rodgers fell right into the lap of GB in 05) and the draft had a lot of good WR talent to help now when the Packers are competitive. -
I would be interested to see who could be on the trade market for a big time defensive linemen that would make sense. I only see one area on offense that the Bills could majorly improve upon and that's tight end and unless Ertz becomes available I don't see one out on the market that's going to make an impact. Defensively I would be all for adding a piece at a retail cost. A DE would be nice but who is out there on the market? I think this team is best off waiting until the deadline to see who is there just in case there is an injury. Luckily there are no glaring needs at the moment. They probably would take him back as salary filler. But the Bills won't want JJ for his contract and declining production.

billsfan89 replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get it but at the same time you have a generational QB at age 37 who needs reciving help desperately in a good deep WR draft. Why wouldn't you draft a WR and look into getting a QB in 2021 or 2022 when Rodgers will be older and closer to 40? Green Bay was wise to do this but I just question the timing of it especially given the nature of QB play lasting longer -

billsfan89 replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Packers should have waited a year before picking a replacement. They should have drafted a WR to help Rodgers out the next 3 years as opposed to selecting a replacement for a 37 year old QB. When Rodgers was 38 I would have pulled the trigger on a replacement. QB's usually play well until 40. At 37 Rodgers has 4 more seasons of quality football left reasonably (Age 37-38-39-40) by the time you have to pull the trigger on Love (3 years in) Rodgers will be 40 and still likely have a year or even 2 left in the tank. Whereas if the Packers helped improve their chances to win in 2020 by selecting a WR and waited until 2021 to draft a QB. By waiting one more year they could have had a 3 year plan that would have used up the last best years of Rodgers career.
