A sense of calm this week...
billsfan89 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills had to make it to the AFCCG in order for the season to be a success after Josh had established himself and the 13 win season. You lose against Indy and now you have a real problem with "choking" and even if you lost to the Raven's you have an issue of is Josh "elite" in the playoffs? Now that this team has 2 playoff wins they have the swag and know they can get there. If they lose an away game to the best QB going who has a very good supporting cast that's fine it happens. I feel the confidence of the team and hope Josh can show up! -
The Donald Trump legacy

He will known as the Herbert Hoover of the pandemic along with a man who was such a sore loser he nearly overthrew the government. -
The Bills basically got Tre and Edumonds for Mahomes along with ancillary draft capital. Both guys (although Edumonds a bit less so) are foundational pieces to the defense. Now even two All-Pro (and Edumonds isn't all Pro yet) defenders wouldn't be worth a Mahomes. But the Bills made the right call the year after and on the QB so now you have the QB and the defensive pieces.

If Josh wins a Super Bowl with the Bills regardless of how Mahomes career pans out then the Bills will not be looked at as a historic blunder. The Houston Rockets aren't looked at as having made a huge mistake drafting Hakeem over Jordan as they got two titles out of it.

It would take wayyyyy more than that. It would easily cost the Colts their first three picks in 2021 and their 2nd and 1st round picks in 2022 and 2023 among other considerations.

I anticipate LB and CB possibly being immediate needs as I think this team will prioritize Mongo and D.Williams as this team needs to orient its cap resources around Josh. I also look at longer term needs and short term depth needs at DE and at safety. I think a lot of fans think TE is a big need but I don't see the team moving away from Knox. I think a trade down just a few spots to recoup a 4th is the best move unless fantastic value presents its self at pick 32. I think at picks 33-39 you can get a similar caliber prospect and you then can address other needs by having an extra pick. And considering how good this regime has been at drafting having more picks to replace guys who just left or could age out soon is a good idea. If I had to guess I would say that if they resign Levi, Mongo, Roberts, and D.Williams but let Milano walk the first two picks will be at DE and LB while the third round pick will be in the secondary. An RB who can bring some speed to the team might get picked but that is a 5th round or later type pick.

Ike has defiantly been an unsung hero. I thought Ford would hold down the LG spot once Spain went awol. And while I think Ford would have he got hurt and Ike came in and has been very effective. They need to do everything they can to keep this O-line together. Even if that means having to let Milano and Levi possibly walk.

Context matters and obviously player availability matters. Budda Baker was taken at pick 36 in 2017 and is also a two time All Pro in the secondary. Most NFL scouts have said in interviews that early second round picks are fairly close talent wise to late first round picks. My point was that philosophy the Bills who don't have a 4th round pick due to the Diggs trade could get that 4th round pick back plus another late round pick and still get a impact starter. Also to claim I am not for using a pick in the first four rounds on an RB. I feel that this team is likely going to need to replace Milano and get younger at DE and in the secondary. If you can trade down a few spots from pick 32ish you can still get an LB or DE that you need and get an extra selection or two to help you get depth and help the roster long term.

Allen... does he have the Jordan killer instinct?
billsfan89 replied to Negan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We will see just how "elite" Josh is on Sunday. Josh played well but clenched up late in the Colts game, he played fairly average against the Ravens but the Ravens were an elite defense and the weather/gameplan was horrid. Hopefully Josh with 2 playoff wins under his belt feels the confidence to let it rip against the Chiefs solid but not elite defense. -
Right now I am going to assume that between Mongo, D.Williams, Levi Wallace and Milano they are going to lose one of those players if not two. I think Mongo and D.Williams are brought back as this is Josh's team and they need his guys. I think Milano might be the odd guy out which means I could see LB being the pick in round 1 and the secondary being picked in round 2 and 3. Not really passing up on an impact starter. If you trade down from 32 to 35-40 you are still picking early in the second round. Early in the second round your talent level is not that much different than the last pick of the first round. The only thing you are passing up is the 5th year option on a player. I also disagree that it would be difficult for a early 4th round pick to make the roster. There will be some players that leave via free agency and you will need to replace them with draft picks.
-
They have Moss and Singletary at RB both with 2-3 years left on dirt cheap contracts. They won't spend any significant resources on RB. They might take a late round flyer on a speed back for some depth but this team isn't spending a pick in the first three rounds to supplement a position they have two fairly good young players at. Odds are this team likely needs to spend their first three picks either getting younger at positions or replacing guys who leave in free agency.

I don't see the team being emotionally drained. The Colts game was the pressure cooker, tough team, not the best matchup and the Bills had the pressure of losing at home and being 0-3 in the playoffs under McD. The Ravens game the team clearly played more loose and confident. I expect them to come through with that kind of loose style of play.

Do you like the term “Bills Mafia”?
billsfan89 replied to Lionel Hutz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like the term, it is fun and not literal. I do hate the crashing through tables thing. It makes the fanbase look like white trash. -
It appears Bills FO may remain intact for 2021
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is shocking that the Bills success (playoffs 3 of the 4 seasons and this crazy run this season) has not resulted in much organizational poaching. Typically when a team comes off of 10 and 13 win seasons with a young monster QB some people get poached for other organizations. So to see the core of the front office and coaching staff coming back after a 13 win season that came off a 10 win season is amazing and a huge positive. Hopefully this team is able to retain most of the players. -
Looking around the league and right now I see compelling offers from Miami and the Jets. Miami can offer the most offering pick 3, 20, 35 and a future 1st and 3rd in 2022 and a future 2nd in 2023 along with additional mid-round selections. The Jets can offer pick 2, 23, 34 and a future 1st and 3rd and additional mid-round selections. I hear the 49ers mentioned a lot but I am not sure what they really have to offer. They can offer up pick 12 and a pick in the 40's along with Jimmy G and future 1st round picks. But I would rather have higher picks now and I am not really sold on Jimmy G as anything more than a fringe starter. I guess the 49ers could include Bosa, pick 12, their 2nd and 3rd rounders in 2021 and a 1st and 3rd in 2022. But that then leaves you in no mans land at QB. It will be interesting to see where Watson goes. I think they will want as large a haul as they could possibly get for him while also either landing a QB or landing a high enough draft pick to get a QB.

The Saints will be almost $100M over the salary cap next year!
billsfan89 replied to Doc's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think the NFL or NFLPA is going to let the cap go down 20+ million. I think they will do what the NBA did and keep the cap flat but have the players put a portion of their salaries in escrow and have that portion of their salary with held or distributed based on the yearly revenues along with a possible league wide bonus if revenues exceed expectations wildly. I just don't see the players wanting it nor do I see owners and GMs wanting such a crunch. They aren't trading Taysom Hill who is their only QB on the roster assuming Brees retires. I also think the cap isn't going to be set at 175 million. I likely think they are going to set the cap at 195-205 million which would give the Saints (assuming they make all those moves minus trading Taysom Hill) about 22 million in space which should allow them to add their rookie pool and fill the remaining roster slots with cheaper players. I also think they might work with Michael Thomas's contract to free up a little more space. The Saints will be able to make these moves and take a step back as needed. -
It is a passing league in a lot of ways. The screen and short passing game can help replace a ground game. I do think that Daboll nearly cost this team the game not running when the wind was clearly a huge detriment to the passing game. But I am not surprised to see Daboll at the helm of a successful unbalanced passing attack.

There were actually very few "big ticket" acquisitions in free agency or via trade from 2017 to 2020. Star, Addison and Mitch were big contracts but other than that the AAV of the contracts were pretty modest and we all know Diggs was a big trade acquisition. But other than that if you look at the aav of key players acquired you will see a very modest set of acquisitions. Very few 10 million aav big time signings. A lot of players brought in at the 5-9 million aav range.

Report: Daboll will remain with Bills in 2021
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Kahns seem to know how to run a professional wrestling promotion well but they never get the right GM/Coach/QB combo for some reason. And it isn't like they are cheap or meddling either. It might just be bad luck honestly. -

billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My main issue is that how dedicated is the ownership of the Jags, Jets and Chargers? I know the Jets are never afraid to spend money but the Jags and Chargers have been called cheap before. Also how willing is ownership to let a GM and coach combo go to work? The Jags are a coaches dream as they have a generational QB at the top of the draft and an extra 1st round selection on top of the massive amount of cap space. But is their ownership willing to spend? I have heard good things about the Kahn's but they never seem to get the right people to run their organization. Does that have anything to do with them or is it just bad luck? -

I think Daboll would have taken the Chargers job. They are in a decent spot. First they have a good young QB with 3 years and a option left on his rookie deal. They have a good WR corp and a solid RB along with pieces on defense. Their cap isn't in too bad of a shape either. They have some space and some fat they can cut or restructure on the roster. But thankfully he didn't get the job and he returns for one more year. I don't see it either but you have something to work with at QB. Their issues are cap problems short term and GM meddling long term. -

The Philly job is a bit more desirable in my opinion. Hurts is a decent young QB and they have their draft choices and while their cap is hell you could easily sell them on a 2 year rebuild of let's develop Hurts and get out of cap hell. The issue with Philly is that their GM appears to want a lot of control over the coaching staff. -
So the Lamar excuses start????
billsfan89 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Lamar didn't have a great game and he made the mistake that sent the team home. That happens in the playoffs and it is fine to bash him. But he did get a playoff win this season which I think gets some pressure off of him. The Ravens need to find him a true WR1. They have a good TE in Andrews and Hollywood Brown is a nice burner but the rest of that receiving corps is ass. They need to find at least one additional good WR if not two. Lamar can be dynamic at times and that ground game can be potent. But until they find a way to get better at a pure passing scheme they will never give themselves a shot on longer down and distances consistently against better defenses.
