I had kind of pegged the Jets as being able to get a pick somewhere in the late 1st to mid 2nd for Darnold. I think the Steelers make a lot of sense for Darnold. The Steelers can bring back Big Ben on a one year deal and give Darnold a one year mini-extension. The Steelers can then sit Darnold for a year behind Big Ben and rebuild him. It would make sense for both parties and give Darnold a good shot to revive his career.

Jags Josh Allen was drafted by a previous regime and Urban could be looking to gut the roster completely and sell off parts. Not saying it is likely to happen but certainly it isn't that far fetched to think a new coach/GM might not be enamored with an old regimes draft pick who had an underwhelming second season.

This is not based off any trade rumors or rumblings. I just want to get fans perspectives on creative trade ideas to get the pieces needed to get this team over the hump. One of the hardest pieces the Bills are going to have to find is a good edge rusher. And unlike when the Bills traded for Diggs this team doesn't have the cap space to take on a bigger contract or a player seeking a bigger contract before the season. If I were McBeane I would try to see if they could try and pry the "other" Josh Allen from the Jags. Perhaps pick 62 and a conditional 4th in 2022 could get it done? Why it makes sense Jags Josh Allen was the 7th overall pick in 2019, drafted two spots ahead of Ed Oliver. He had a great rookie year with 10.5 sacks. However in 2020 he had only 2.5 sacks in 8 games and got hurt. Jags Josh Allen was drafted two years ago by a regime that is no longer in charge. Coming of an injury and a down year it might be a good time for the Bills to make an offer and try and get him at lower value. A late 2nd round pick plus a future mid round selection is not an insignificant return and if the new Jags regime isn't sold on Allen then getting good draft compensation for him might not be a bad idea. It also makes sense from the Bills perspective as Jags Josh Allen is only making 6 million this season and is locked in for one more year on his rookie deal and has a 5th year option. It would be a good use of draft assets to trade for a young player with 2-3 years left on an affordable deal. Why it doesn't make sense It is hard to give up on a 24 year old who is one year removed from the Pro-Bowl on a rookie contract. If Meyer really likes him he isn't trading him for a late 2nd and a future pick. Also from the Bills perspective if the Jags are willing to give up their Josh Allen then that knee injury might be more serious or his dip in production in 2020 might be more indicative of longer term issues. Not sure what other more interesting trades that satisfy the Bills could be out there but let me know what you think of this one!

If I were Beane I would try and trade for the Jaguars Josh Allen, maybe package pick 62 and a future conditional 4th? JA had 10.5 sacks his rookie year but only had 2.5 sacks in 8 games in 2020 and then got hurt. Maybe you get the Jags to bite getting back a late 2nd for a player drafted from a previous regime? These types of risky creative moves are what might be needed. Not sure Meyer is going to want to move off of a player so quickly but it could happen.

I don't see a Diggs like trade because of the Bills cap situation. Odds are if you are trading a 1st or 2nd round pick for a player they are either on a big contract or they are demanding one. At pick 30 in the draft finding a big time impact pass rusher isn't easy. Free agency will be hard too because of the cap situation. I think the best hope is to try and find a trade for a player with 2 years left on his rookie deal and punt an extension to 2022. But that isn't and won't be easy to find. It is going to be a tricky off-season to retain all or most of the team's talent and add those last 1-2 pieces needed.

Martellus Bennett about the dark side of football
billsfan89 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I forgot which player Max Kellerman was talking to but I remember an NFL who was recently retired from the 90's/00's said that Any Given Sunday was the most accurate portrayal of professional football in media. It is a brutal sport that grinds up a lot of lives. As much as I hate the "softening" of the league I do prefer these guys having shorter careers and more protections. I like how players are much more aware and informed about the risks of playing. I don't like to see a lot of these older players destroyed in their 50's and 60's. -
Derek Carr reportedly in demand, could lead to trade
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Odds are Carr doesn't fit their timeline. The Texans are likely to want to go with a rookie QB as opposed to a vet with 2 affordable years left on his contract. I think the Texans are more likely interested in a deal that gives them as many draft picks and young players as possible. The Raiders are likely going to have to find a team interested in Carr that can give them draft picks so that they can use those picks to get Watson. In a world where Stafford draws two first round picks and a third round pick, Carr on a similar contract could at least fetch a 1st and another pick. I don't know if Carr is viewed in the same realm as Stafford around the league so I think it is far more realistic that he gets traded for a 1st and 3rd maybe from a team like the Colts. Which should still help the Raiders get into the Watson conversation. -

Matt Flynn "only" got 20 million for 3 years with 9 guaranteed from Seattle. A massive overpay but not that tragic. -
"First Round Picks are Over-rated": Discuss
billsfan89 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
First round picks are highly important because in a sport as volatile as football you can't "lottery protect" your first round pick. Having your own first round pick allows the bottom to fall out on the season and it not to be a total loss. So even if you have a very good team the injury bug can hit any team at any season and deliver you 13-15 losses. And not having your first round pick to rebuild is tough. I think in certain terms trading a future first can be decent but it is a huge gamble that is unlikely to be worth it. -
Derek Carr reportedly in demand, could lead to trade
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess you could look at it as one of the firsts are in exchange for taking on Goff's contract. But the Rams are still eating 22 million in dead cap in 2021 as a result of the trade. So it isn't like the trade dumps that much money into their coffers and in fact combining Stafford's 2021 cap number and Goff's dead money in 2021 it will cost the Rams 8 million. The Rams save 14 million in 2022 but I doubt they paid a 1st round pick for a net of 6 million cap dollars over the course of two seasons. -

He is worth more in my opinion. Young QB's who are elite are hard to find. But realistically the Texans are going to have to hope for a package of picks that includes 4 firsts as a bedrock. -

In a world where Matthew Stafford goes for 2 firsts and a third it is possible esp given how good Carr's contract is. -

If they resign Mongo and D.Williams I personally am fine with the Oline. I think they play together well and the resources needed to upgrade the oline aren't easy or available. TE I wouldn't hate but it's not easy to find a prime time TE, there are only 4 to 5 in the league. I also think Knox could develop into a solid TE. I think this team desperately needs an edge rusher and possibly a big nickle to help cover TE's. -

Rumors are the Raiders are trying to trade Carr and a bunch of picks for Watson. For once the focus is on keep players and plugging up a piece or two. If the team resigns D.Williams, Mongo, Milano, Roberts, Ty and Barkley I don't see too many holes on this roster just a couple more pieces needed to get the team over KC. -

I agree, he could very well sign a one year 6-8 million dollar deal with the Bills and opt to hit the market with a larger cap. No use taking a longer term deal if the deal is in that aav range and the guarantee is minimal. But he is going to want to get paid. It is more so a matter of is his market good enough to out punt a solid one year deal from the Bills that allows him to hit a bigger market in 2022. -

Watson is a smart player and such a dynamic, he will adapt to any system. I never thought of him as a "freelancer" like Mike Vick or other QB's that played a more loose style. Watson to me plays smart but then adapts when thing breakdown I hope for his sake he ends up as a 49er. I think the Dolphins might be the best spot long term for him as they have an overwhelming amount of capital (they could offer picks 3, 18, 36 and a 4th in 2021 and a 1st and 3rd in 2022 and a 2nd in 2023) and a team that is ready to win now and for the next 3 seasons. The Jets giving up picks 2, 22, and 66 in 2021 and a pair of first round picks in 2022 along with a 3rd in 2023 is another compelling offer but I think the Jets would be a year away with Watson. He hasn't made very much money in his NFL career, I think he wants all the money he can get. -
Hypothetically had the Bills kicked the extra point and gone down 16 and then scored a TD plus 2 points on the recovered on-sides kick the Bills would have had plenty of time left plus their timeouts down just 8. They wouldn't have needed a recovered kick to get the ball back down 8 as they could have gotten the ball back even if they gave up one first down (so some margin for error on the defense too.) It would have made the game much more interesting even if Mahomes just got 2 first downs and grinded down the clock.

I could see Jimmy G and a 4th rounder to the Colts for pick 21. I think the 49ers are going to want to trade for Watson and are going to want as much draft capital to make an offer. Right now their best assets are picks 12 and 43 that's not a lot of fire power to go after Watson. Pairing picks 12 and 43 with pick 21 would at least put the 49ers in competition with the bigger offers likely available from the Jets and Dolphins. If the 49ers could trade Jimmy G for pick 21 that would put the 49ers in position to offer up a possible trade package consisting of. Picks 12, 21, 43, 103 (Comp pick for the hiring of Saleh) and 117 in 2021. The 49ers 1st and 3rd round picks in 2022 and a 1st and 3rd in 2023. That would be quite the offer for Watson, giving the Texans 4 top 103 picks in 2021 along with two future firsts and thirds to set up their future. Honestly Watson to the 49ers is my preferred outcome, it gets him out of the conference and away from the division. If I were the Texans I would prefer to get him out of the conference and while I do think the Jets and Fins could present better offers it isn't like this type of offer from the 49ers would be all that terrible.
