It obviously wouldn't be fair to the rest of the league. The football fan in me would hate to see it BUT The Bills fan in me would love to give the Bills a free win and a free bye week at the same time. Honestly the Titans deserve to be severely punished for their negligence and the NFL failed to add in extra weeks to the season to compensate for this type of scenario.

Hell yes, win with no injuries or even wear and tear? Sign me up, I get the competitive aspect of it but overall it would be such a huge advantage for the Bills to get a win/bye for free into the hardest game of the season

Honestly the defense has been far from elite but it hasn't been as tragic as fans are making it out to be. Looking at all 4 games individually and I only see one bad game out of the 4. The defense shut down the Jets as they should have (10 points given up 7 more in garbage time.) The Fins beat up the defense over the middle with Milano and Edumonds out but the defense only let up 21 points when it mattered (7 points given up in garbage time.) The Rams game was tragic but the offense did muff the ball twice in that run so the defense was hung out to dry a bit. And in the Raiders game the defense clamped down in the second half and only let up 16 points when the game was on the line (7 points in garbage time.) If you factor out the three garbage time TD's they gave up against the Jets, Fins and Raiders the points given up by the defense are 10, 21, 32 and 16. That's an average of 19.75 points per-game given up. Given the inflated offense this season due to the weird off-season I think it is healthy to say that just under 20 points per game is at least an above average defense. I know writing off garbage time TD's is a big cheap but context matters in this instance since those garbage TD's were given up when the game was out of reach.

I think the blocking has been better on the return unit. Could be what is giving him more space to accelerate? Unless he was battling an injury last year? I think it's most likely a combo. I think the ST additions of guys like Tawain Jones and Matakevich could be leading to better blocking. A muffed punt can cost games, yes what he adds on kickoffs is limited but just being a good punt returner who can reliably field the ball and break off the occasional 10+ yard return is bigger than fans give it credit for. He isn't making 4-5 million to be a returner he is making 2 million. I think a lot of fans are making it seem like Roberts is making a lot more than he is.
-
How quickly fans forget how a botched return could easily cost you games. In 2018 the Bills lost a game against the Jets because their return game was horrid and Roberts shifted field position for the Jets, there was also 1-2 other games that had bad return miscues that put games out of reach. I don't even have to go back to 2008 with McKelvin... Simply put Roberts is a key component of the ST unit and someone who while maybe not a dramatically great returner like Devin Hester or Dante Hall is still someone that is reliable (thus avoids costly turnovers) and can subtly shift field position. He is a top 10 returner with top 5 potential. That's easily worth the 2 million he gets paid. And this year unlike last year he is breaking off bigger returns and that's helping to really shift field position in key moments. I have no idea how any fan could have wanted to cut him to roster a JAG receiver like Foster or Duke. No offense to either guy but neither fills a niche and role like Roberts.

It kind of reminds me of the Bills when they would bring in a young QB. Guys like JP, EJ and Trent while they may never have been a top 5 QB were certainly done no favors by being in a dysfunctional organization. The Washington Team is a bad spot for a young QB to be in. Their organization is a complete mess and they lack on field talent. I think Haskins might be best served to be traded to a team like Pittsburgh. He needs to go to a team that can groom him behind a vet QB for a year or two to regain his confidence and enter into a good situation on the field. Even if he were to do that he might still be a bust but landing in a bad situation like Washington is not helping him.

I thought Josh was going to push to be a top 10 QB this season. I thought he went from really raw rookie to solid mid-level starter from 2018 to 2019. I thought he would still have trouble with the hero ball (which he still does to a degree) and that he would need to feel more comfortable in the pocket consistently. And so far he has looked to be comfortable and processing the game quickly. If he can tighten up the hero ball stuff just a little the sky is the limit with this kid.

Anyone Else Having Trouble Dealing with this Success?
billsfan89 replied to Shaw66's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Honestly it wasn't even that long ago the team was 6-10 in 2018 so enjoy the success. The team has earned it, the fanbase and ownership have earned it. Just take it one week at a time. -
Milano is week-to-week with injury
billsfan89 replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A one year "prove it" deal might be what he wants and if I were the Bills I would take it, it allows you to draft a player in the 3rd-5th round behind him and have a year to break him in. I am not sure if 2022 the cap will jump as much as predicted. I think the NFL and NFLPA are going to "smooth" out the cap decrease for 2021. Which will lead to either a minor cut in the 2021 cap or a flat rate from 2020 to 2021 but then the increase in 2022 would be smaller. Kind of robbing 2022's cap to make the 2021 cap less bad. I think the owners, GM's and players all want to avoid a deep cut in 2021 and then a wild swing in 2022. If the case is that the cap will be smoothed out then Milano might be better taking a two year deal and waiting for a bigger cap increase in 2023. Either way if Milano's inconsistent health seems to hit his market value having him back for one more year on a moderate deal of 7-8 million would be a win win for both sides. -
The packers really blew it selecting Love
billsfan89 replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get why the Packers did what they did, I just think it was looking a bit too far in the future. I think they were better off adding a piece to help now and finding a QB to develop in a year or two. Green Bay is well run they probably made the right call, my issue was could they have held off to better help the all time great QB they have now? I personally didn't see Love as a special QB too good not to take a chance on (much like how Rodgers fell right into the lap of GB in 05) and the draft had a lot of good WR talent to help now when the Packers are competitive. -
I would be interested to see who could be on the trade market for a big time defensive linemen that would make sense. I only see one area on offense that the Bills could majorly improve upon and that's tight end and unless Ertz becomes available I don't see one out on the market that's going to make an impact. Defensively I would be all for adding a piece at a retail cost. A DE would be nice but who is out there on the market? I think this team is best off waiting until the deadline to see who is there just in case there is an injury. Luckily there are no glaring needs at the moment. They probably would take him back as salary filler. But the Bills won't want JJ for his contract and declining production.

I get it but at the same time you have a generational QB at age 37 who needs reciving help desperately in a good deep WR draft. Why wouldn't you draft a WR and look into getting a QB in 2021 or 2022 when Rodgers will be older and closer to 40? Green Bay was wise to do this but I just question the timing of it especially given the nature of QB play lasting longer -

billsfan89 replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Packers should have waited a year before picking a replacement. They should have drafted a WR to help Rodgers out the next 3 years as opposed to selecting a replacement for a 37 year old QB. When Rodgers was 38 I would have pulled the trigger on a replacement. QB's usually play well until 40. At 37 Rodgers has 4 more seasons of quality football left reasonably (Age 37-38-39-40) by the time you have to pull the trigger on Love (3 years in) Rodgers will be 40 and still likely have a year or even 2 left in the tank. Whereas if the Packers helped improve their chances to win in 2020 by selecting a WR and waited until 2021 to draft a QB. By waiting one more year they could have had a 3 year plan that would have used up the last best years of Rodgers career. -
Milano is week-to-week with injury
billsfan89 replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree somewhat but I do think that Milano's sideline to sideline skills and solid tackling ability can fit in other schemes. He plays really well in the nickel and can cover lesser tight ends and good running backs out of the backfield. I think there are a lot of other scheme fits for him around the league. BUT I do think that he has to place himself in the right situation and there isn't a better situation for him for both team success and individual success than Buffalo. I think that his health will prevent him from getting that huge offer he could have received if he had a big year and stayed healthy. I think his best bet would be to take a two year deal 14-16 million total modest guarantee on year one and two and try to hit the market in a couple of years when the cap is higher and he has two more years in a system that makes him look good. The long winded point I am trying to make is that I don't think Milano's skills are so specialized to the system that he would only be successful in McD's system. Milano could work in a variety of 4-3 systems. BUT given his health concerns and his comfort within the system it might make sense for him to take a two year deal that puts him in a reasonable range and in line to get a big contract while he is still in his 20's. Even for all the ***** Norman took in Washington he was still an above average corner there for his first three seasons. It wasn't until 2019 when he became a complete liability that he was cut. -

I think they have to name their price with Milano and accept it if he gets a better offer elsewhere. I would say that due to his constant nagging injuries Milano's price point should be pegged at 7-8 million per year with a modest guarantee over the course of 3 years. -
Got to sweep the Pats this year. Yes I know the Pats are still strong defensively and Cam is having a turn around season. But if there was any year where expectations to turn things around against the Pats were justified it is this year. Yes the Bills could likely split against the Pats and win the division. But the Bills need to avoid a mental trap with the Pats. The Bills need to avoid feeling like they are the permanent little brother. They lost twice last year in winnable games and a tough split this year could only reinforce that.

Week 5: Bills at Titans on Tuesday Night Football
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought the schedules hardest stretch came from week 5 to 9. The Rams and Raiders in my mind were solid teams but teams the Bills should have been able to handle (although the Rams are better than I thought). I thought of the Titans and Pats games as a toss up and then the Chiefs and Seahawks games as a hard to win. The only favored game in that span is the Jets. The Titans covid situation puts things up in the air for this game as I am thinking the Titans covid outbreak is likely to benefit the Bills if a game were to be played Sunday. I never bought the hype of how "hard" the schedule was. I think fans overrated that type of thing -

4-0 and the Bills need to finish fattening up and go to 5-0 before hitting the next 4 game stretch which will be the hardest of the season. Vegas is a decent team and on the road the Bills took care of them. -
Zay Jones - What If He Played With This Josh Allen?
billsfan89 replied to HardyBoy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Zay will likely hang around the league a few more years, I think the Bills were the wrong place at the wrong time for him. He needed to adjust to being in the NFL slowly and he was in over his head in Buffalo. I don't think he will develop into anything other than a high end back up player but I could see him developing into a better slot player. -
Clearly, Kroft should start at tight end now
billsfan89 replied to Mister Defense's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Last year two game changing TE's played each other in the Super Bowl. In 2018 Ertz won against Gronk. Gronk also won in 2019, 2017 and 2014. So recent history states its a position that is pretty successful at an elite level. -
Why do people think this schedule is so difficult? Even pessimistically looking at the schedule its not that difficult. Yes after the Titans game the Bills have a hard 4 game stretch. Pats, Chiefs and Seahawks (with the only easy game being the Jets) is a touch stretch but I think they can go 2-2 in that stretch and if they enter into that stretch 4-1 (Which would be splitting the Titans and Raiders game which I think this team can take both.) That would put them at 6-3 going into a back half of the season that is favorable 3 game stretch where at worst they should be able to go 2-1 (which puts them at 8-4) and then they can go 2-2 to end the season (Pats, Steelers, Broncos and Fins) and still finish 10-6. Overall I say just focus about going 4-0 against the Raiders. The Bills do admittedly have a tough stretch coming on after the Titans game. So these next two weeks in my opinion will be critical if the Bills hope to go 12+ wins and be in contention for that bye week. If they split these next two I think they go 11-5 if they enter into that Chiefs game 5-0 then I think this is a 12+ win team that can win the division and can be in contention for the bye.

TE, DE, and CB are all the most urgent areas of need in my opinion. Maybe even LB if Milano leaves via free agency. I can also see an early round pick at safety as Hyde and Poyer age and reach the end of their contracts. It feels good to have a roster with no urgent and glaring needs. A lot of these areas of concern are either trying to upgrade an OK position or trying to get younger while effective starters age.

He was solid in his first three years in Washington from 2016 to 2018. He was an effective corner but he was considered a disappointment in those years not because he was bad but because he was signed to be a top tier corner (as he was an All-Pro in 2015.) Granted he was a disaster in 2019 for the Skins. But If he can just be an effective corner like he was those first three years in Washington that will be a plus.

You can find tutorials online how to do it. Honestly it isn't convenient but if you are even a little computer savvy you can figure it out. 2K5 definitely holds up surprisingly well. The whole thing plays so different (in a good way) from Madden, it took 2 games to adjust to it for me but once I got a feel for it, the game felt like true simulation football even if it had some issues.
