Love it, Josh will make him better than he was on the Jets.

2022 Free Agency - Around the NFL Thread
billsfan89 replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Solid little move for the Titans, he was stuck in a bad situation with the Browns and was only cut because he was overpaid. -
Matt Ryan hasn’t been a top 10 QB since 2018. The past three seasons while he hasn’t been bad, he hasn’t been all that great either. Granted the Falcons haven’t put an elite team around him and they have been bad defensively for the past 4-5 seasons. But Ryan’s play has also gone from top 10-5 QB to an average QB at best. I think the Colts did the best they could with the given circumstances (not having a 1st and not being able to trade for Watson). The Colts have an elite team so they should be very competitive with average QB play but in the playoffs going up against stacked teams with more dynamic QB's will lead to an early exit.

Joe Haden… I think he’s our guy at CB2

Sometimes not making a move is a good sign that the coaching staff likes what they have. -
Matt Barkley Back? (Yep! deal not yet known)
billsfan89 replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Don't underestimate the power of cohesion in the locker room. These guys are together from late July to the beginning of January for the regular season and possibly another 5ish weeks for a playoff run. Having people that are liked in the locker room makes cohesion better. It's not a major impact but it is an impact. -

Can't do too much better for a third string QB. The help he provides in the locker room is also a nice bonus you don't get with many third string QB's. -
Solid Breida replacement nothing fancy but a nice roster building move. Hopefully a vet corner or some significant O-line depth is the next move.
-
The CB depth isn't great but I like Dane as a CB2 more than most. I also think that this coaching staff has shown to make chicken soup out of chicken ***** when it comes to the secondary. I think there is also more corners out on the market and better options deeper in the draft to figure out the CB position than the O-line.
-
If they don't resign Bates easily 2 out of the top 3 picks need to be on the O-line. Insisting on pick 25 maybe hyperbolic but the O-line is becoming a massive area of concern for me personally. Not much out on the free agency market and Bates is not yet back officially.
-
The Bills O-line is starting to be a real concern for me. They have 4 starting caliber linemen and not much else. Brining back Bates would be a nice move but this team then has very little depth. Only Doyle and Ford would be behind the starting 5. Without Bates there is a gaping hole at LG that should be filled at pick 25.

The Colts are out of "A-level" options. Wilson and Watson are potential game changers are they are no longer on the market. But the Colts aren't out of starting caliber options either. Jimmy G, Baker and Matt Ryan are all on the market and I would classify them as starting caliber QB's. I think they go with Baker I think they swap their second round pick for a third round pick and a future conditional pick (basically making it an even trade). Jimmy G is their best option. Jimmy G gives them a quality "game manager" with significant playoff experience (I think he has played in 6 playoff games including a Super Bowl).

Deshaun Watson to Browns - $230 million guaranteed

They can’t make him play, it is an asset that that had to sell. -

The AFC North and West will beat up on each other and the Bills just have to win the East and hopefully get the one seed. If the Bills get the one seed they only have to play two teams out of the AFC and likely have the most advantageous matchup in the divisional round. -

It was Watson’s choice given his no trade clause. -
Star released. Pre-6/1 per Joe B, $1.5M cap savings.
billsfan89 replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not shocked, after Star got Covid he was playing like a JAG. He was never the big run stuffer he was paid to be. I don't think he was a bad player but just not the difference maker he was portrayed to be. Good to just get off his contract and take some minor cap savings. -
AZ cuts Jordan Phillips - now signed by Bills
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
If they bring in a more proven vet I think they draft a CB round 3-5 and not high up. -
Shaq and Phillips coming back home remind me of when Pats players used to ball out get paid by another team then 2-3 years later come back to the Patriots on dirt cheap deals and be productive players. I am all for both signings. Kick the tires on two guys you know fit the system for dirt cheap.

For me Dane did well being effectively the number 2 corner and if this team has many glaring needs elsewhere I would roll with him as the CB2 and just draft depth or a cheaper veteran. But for a team with Super Bowl aspirations they will need to burn a pick early at CB or go with a more proven veteran to compete with Dane. -
How many roster spots are still in play?
billsfan89 replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
Starting wise? Not much. Depth wise there are some needs. Starting wise Punter - Haack is a great holder but a mediocre punter, definitely in play. LG - Bates is there but there certainly exists a lot of need here as Bates is a bit of a question mark and there exists very little competition or depth along the o-line CB2- Tre and T.Johnson are the slot and starting corners but Dane Jackson does not have a stronghold on the CB2 position. WR3- Beasley is officially gone and while Mac is an option there I think he is better suited as a gadget WR4 I think there is a hole at the slot position. Depth wise O-line - Bates at the moment is starting at LG and there is nothing much behind him. Doyle and Ford (who are OK at best) are the only real options behind the starting five and that's not really inspiring. This is massively concerning but still time and resources to address this. Linebacker - With Klein gone there isn't much behind Edumonds and Milano Safety - The starting safety combo is elite but getting up there in age, depth here could be critical Third Down back- Maybe not a starting role but there could exist a need for a third down back. Defensive end - A vet option behind Miller and Groot is nice, looking at Shaq and Hughes returns here personally. Backup QB- Mitch is gone who else can replace him? One of the best if not the best rosters in the NFL but that lack of O-line depth is scary. -
So far so good, Miller adds that "war daddy" to the defense and Saffold is a better fit than D-Williams along the O-line. While Settle, Jones and Howard were very good depth moves I still think there are weaknesses along the roster that need addressing before the draft. Adding some O-line depth or a starting guard, adding a WR or CB and some LB depth are all points I think could and should be addressed (or at least 2 out of the 3 points) and then go into the draft maybe only needing to address one or two things and the rest of the draft is all depth and future needs.
-
Interior Oline, WR, or CB are this teams biggest needs right now. The team is good enough at RB.

So...where does this money come from for Von???
