Cut ‘em all. I think two years is very optimistic. The Bills are still losing players. In two years K Williams, L Alexander and L McCoy will all be gone. So add these positions to the list where high level starters are needed.

So his plan is to tank but he's lying about it to his current players and fans? That's not a good way to build trust. I think he meant what he said but miscalculated as to how much the roster purge was going to affect the team's performance.

I don't understand where this idea came from that you have to destroy your roster and start from scratch to change the culture and start winning. There are plenty of examples of new coaches coming in and changing the culture without doing that. Just look at our favorite son, Doug Marrone for a recent example. He took over the Jaguars when they were 2-12. They immediately went 10-6 the next season and made it to the AFC championship game. They didn't clean house and start over. They kept the same players and got them to buy in and play well. I can see changing a few players who don't fit your scheme or something, but but gutting the entire roster is excessive.

I thought the process was to "win now and build for the future," from McDermott's own mouth. I didn't realize we gave up on the first part.

I agree. What I think is harsh is attributing poor play by him to age old flaws in his game. I think a lot of it comes from a lack of experience against pro defenses, poor supporting personnel and quite possibly bad coaching. I'm not saying that he doesn't have things to work on, but they would be much less prominent if he had a better situation.

I think you're being harsh. I'm amazed that anyone thinks the Bills can take a QB that everyone agreed needed time to develop, start him right away with the worst offensive personnel in the NFL, and think he isn't going to struggle. At this point I would say it will be a feather in Allen's cap if he can survive this season without getting hurt, having his confidence crushed or developing bad habits.

Whaley gets the blame for Mahomes and Beane gets the credit for White, duh. (Even though Beane wasn't here yet).

Bills could have done the same. Instead they picked up one of the worst of the available FA QBs to replace Taylor and ended up having to start the rookie. They broke up the team and then focused almost entirely on defense in the initial rebuild. They chose a different route but could have just as easily given Mahomes a year to sit and a decent supporting cast if they chose to. They desperately needed a QB right from year one. They didn't draft one until year two. To me that means that they just didn't believe in Mahomes or believed in Taylor before they him watched play close up him for a season. Either one is an evaluation error. It doesn't mean it can't still work out but it was a missed opportunity for sure.

He doesn't have the confidence in his understanding of the pro game yet to move around in the pocket and go through his progressions. He drops back, makes his primary read, and then if it isn't open he panics and bails out of the pocket (usually by turning his back). That's typical rookie stuff. This is one part of his game that I have no doubt will improve with experience.

When they didn't run the ball in the preseason I thought it was so that they could see what they had at QB. But now it looks like it's just their offense. As you say, not ideal given their personnel.
