Way too early for you to make any of these claims in my opinion, If anything I would be leaning toward the opposite of everything you said, but we will know more as the season progresses. Releasing Knox after June 1st would save the Bills approximately $8M in cap ($12M cap save - $5M dead cap). If I am Beane, that is… intriguing.

Knox is 'Mr. Brightside'. He's not going anywhere. They always carry 3 TEs anyway. No great need to make changes at that position quite yet. When Kincaid is up for a contract in a couple of years that may change. They'll probably want to re-sign him. By that time Knox will be 30-ish, and still have some value on the trade market. I don't know how they manage their cap, but they may limit how much they want to allot to that position group. But, to answer the OP, I think Hawes could eventually be TE 1 or TE 2. We haven't seen enough targets to him yet to truly evaluate is value as a pass catcher. Right now, Hawes is a great addition to a group of tenacious blockers helping James Cook to be a weekly threat. I'm good with that for now.

It won't be Leslie Frazier... 😀 He's been the Assistant Head Coach in Seattle for the last two seasons.. I've posted several times that I think they'll improve as the season progresses. But I've also questioned whether it will be enough.

I'm pretty certain the Bills defense is going to get better as the season goes on, provided there aren't a bunch of injuries late in the season. This year feels different than previous years. A bunch of minor injuries early in the season as well as guys coming back from suspension is setting the team up for a late season run. This is key. With a Bills defense improving, forcing more stops, that gives Josh and the offense more opportunities to score. Nothing is guaranteed but I really like how things are playing out so far. Could be a special year.

Yes i read Kirwan's 'Take your eyes off the ball' book... an excellent read, especially for someone like me who (living in Ireland) has never played the game, or been coached etc. It defintely helped me understand the game and get more out of watching it.

It was weird seeing Hill smiling on the cart. Maybe it ended his misery of being on the team this year. I don’t think people are feeling entitled, it’s just that they fear that some of the weaknesses are lethal to our Super Bowl hopes, bc they’ve seen that show before and better versions of it. The D for all intents and purposes has been a huge investment in draft capital over many years with Beane and McD and it just doesn’t seem like it’s any good as a unit. There are guys that can play and are good talents, but for a light, speedy unit at LB they don’t seem very fast at recognizing the play or being position to make the play, and the tackling…yikes. The secondary with White and Rapp seems a tad too slow with some glaring weaknesses covering certain route combinations. The line is probably the strongest part of the D and it has been inconsistent in run gap discipline and pass rush lane discipline. All in all it doesn’t seem very coordinated and it’s hard to tell how much of a % each aspect of scheme vs personnel philosophy vs actual player performance is the issue. The bottom line is that they may need to try something different. I’m at the point of wanting Strong and Thompson to start as the first attempt to cure some deficiencies, but I’m not thinking it’s going to solve all the problems.

K, I don’t see the Bills moving on from Knox as McD really likes these heavy sets. Based on the opponent, we may some games where there is a ton of 13 personnel, and 12. We basically can bully some opponents. Hawes is promising and cheap. Knox may need to take a reduction in his contract after the year is over, but doesn’t necessarily mean they cut him. Just one guy’s opinion. I don’t know anything more than the rest of you. I have learned quite a bit over the years listening avidly to Movin the Chains on Sirius. In the off season they call it the R’s. Reduce, Release, or Restructure. It’s basically what GM’s and Capologists do each off season. Those guys, Pat Kirwan, a former coach and front office guy along with Jim Miller, a long running second string QB for several teams have really nice insights into how football people think. I know Pat and Cower have written several books in “First Take Your Eyes off the Ball”, and teaches people who love football how to break down games, etc. Ive read it and learned a lot. I’m a guy who played and coached football and learn a lot from them.

I'm not sure I agree that the offense doesn't have any rhythm. It definitely lost its way in the second quarter on Sunday when Brady decided to return us to trying to be a downfield passing offense (which we are not very good at) but when they run the ball with Cook and can get Shakir and the tight ends involved I think they have plenty of rhythm. What they lack is explosiveness. If you are not my answer is do something else. If you can only enjoy sports if you win Championships then they are not for you. Because it doesn't matter how many championships any team wins, in an average life as a sports fan they will lose them much more than they win them. I know the answer will be "just give me one" but what are you going to do, call any other Bills season that doesn't end in a Superbowl meaningless? It's just self-preservation as a fan. Preparing oneself for the worst is a human defence mechanism.

He hasn't but I give him a ton of credit for toughing it out Sunday. Even the original punt where he got hurt.... he knew as he dropped that ball "I'm getting lit up here" and he didn't take his eyes off it and he went through with the kick. Classic stubborn Australian toughness. And coming out to hold (then having to do anything but a routine catch and hold with Reid's struggles) with a torn knee and a brace.... kudos sir. Warrior.

Hawes outsnapped all other tight ends in this game with 31. Knox was second with 24. Kincaid 22. For the season Knox leads tight end snaps with 145, Kincaid 134, Hawes 108. Hawes has earned his snaps and Kincaid has shown some improvements as a blocker but Knox is still the guy that gives the Bills the most flexibility when he is on the field. He remains the most "two-way" of the tight ends. That's why he is continuing to get snaps. I shouldn't shock anyone. There is no way he plays on his 2026 number. So he is either cut before then or he renegotiates, extends and takes a pay cut.

I can’t tell if you’re serious or not. You once wanted to trade Mario Williams for John Skelton so this isn’t even your craziest idea. Davidson had some success as a Division 2 punter. There are dozens of guys, more qualified than him to do the job. Obviously the Bills should replace Johnston will the most qualified, and best, guy.

Johnston’s best plays have come as a special teams public service video for what to avoid doing. His punting hasn’t been very good. Tough guy and I admire the effort after what looked like a pretty gruesome knee injury - but he hasn’t really justified the switch at punter.
