Buffalo is never hosting a Final Four. Maybe a Sweet 16 or something like that if we went dome .. but it makes sense for Philly, who has the infrastructure to support that, to take a sporting event like that into account. Seems like every other year the Final Four is in a domed football stadium in the South or Lucas Oil in Indy.

What’s to be gained even though the public pays for a portion of the stadium you still gotta shell out money and I don’t think there’s that much additional luxury boxes you can put in as stadium design 25-30 years ago was to put in as much of that as possible. The old multi purpose facilities from the 60’s-80’s were truly dated and somewhat ugly. But by the time you hit the late 90’s stadium designes were much more modern. Im not seeing the money play here but maybe there’s something I am missing.

Two out of six, the New Jersey stadium and 49er's stadium are open air. Going back to 2000, 8 out of the 17 stadiums built were open air. Levi Stadium (49ers) and MetLife (Jets/Giants) aren't open air? Perhaps you meant the past 10 years: U.S. Bank (Vikings), Mercedes (Falcons), Allegiant (Raiders) and SoFi (Chargers/Rams). And Vikings, Falcons and Rams had already played indoors.
