He's likely better than he's given credit for on this site. Better than average and around top 10 amongst OCs.

He’s right on the borderline of getting a head coaching gig imo whether deserved or not.  If the bills finish strong he probably will.

Final sentence I disagree with…that screen was set up well it had pretty much no business not working.  That wasn’t on coaching at all imo.  Palmer didn’t hold his block well and Ty looked like he could’ve done more to avoid his blocker there.

It comes down to this for me:

it’s the same damn play he calls at least 7-8 times a game, so it’s easily predictable. It’s a play we don’t run well to begin with. Then, we don’t use our best weapons in Kincaid or Cook! It’s destined to fail!

same concepts over and over  Very predictable  Sometimes has real brain farts in big moments  Think Allen's something from nothing plays come more often that any clever schemed up wins by Brady

I mean they’re the top rushing team in the league and in the top 15 passing offense.  He’s doing that with the worst receiver room in the league.  So that’s all super impressive.  But at the same time- they are a bit too unimaginative in terms of self-scouting and changing their tendencies.  That third down screen to Johnson broke me.

I think Palmer whiffed on a block on that play

Palmer didn’t hold his block yea and even that wasn’t enough to derail it really.  Looked like Ty Johnson drifted right into Palmer after he caught the ball when he probably could’ve done a better job avoiding it

I can’t see Brady being here next season …

will the replacement be someone who is experienced and thus a potential threat to McDermott down the line …. Or someone unproven like Davis Webb?

I hated that call too, until i saw the replay and Palmer completely blowing his blocking assignment. That should have been an easy 1st down. I don’t see what Palmer provides to this team.

I see us picking up first downs with screens pretty often haha it really feels like a psychological thing at this point with fans.  It’s been a pretty decent play for us but nobody seems to remember the good ones.

everyone knows our WRs can block and can’t get open but we want to just wing it around in high leverage spots when the defense is very likely doubling Kincaid I always find it a bit interesting lol.  Teams are sending a ton of pressure up the middle on those 3rd and medium-long type scenarios

If you exclude the Head Coaches who call plays.... of the remaining NFL OCs there are not many I'd take ahead of him. It's basically Josh McDaniels and Klint Kubiak.

I strongly suspect he will be an NFL Head Coach next year.

Does he have the odd bad playcall and the odd bad series, yes... so does every OC in football. Even the screen we hated at the end today (and I hated it too) works if Palmer executes any sort of block at all. It was well schemed the Bills had three guys vs two outside but Palmer whiffed on the block.

I think a LOT of the criticism that goes his way is unfair. That said the Falcons game (where he got away from Cook) and the Houston game (where I felt like he failed to make any adjustment for the fact his tackles couldn't hold up) were defeats in which he definitely had some culpability.

I think he has done overall a very good job in his two and a half years running this offense. The lack of downfield passing game isn't about scheme or playcalling. It's about players.

Yea. I think it was a situationally bad call, but a well designedand schemed play, they had 3 v 2. Palmer just doesn't execute the block.

I very much agree with this assessment (not that this means anything) but look at how successful our O is this year. It's especially impressive given our second-rate WR room.

When plays don't work there are three possible reasons why:

1. Bad play choice;

2. Failure of execution;

3 Great play by the D.

Without film study, the average fan usually is not able to id whether the fault lay with the play choice or failure to execute (or both).

There is another possibility: if Brady gives Josh two plays and it's up to Josh to pick the one most likely to succeed given the D look, then it's possible that the D fooled Josh.

I don’t care, he needs to go. There’s no reason for the offense to look so clunky and bad. The screen on 3rd and 4 with Ty was unacceptable.

I think the wr screen on 3rd and 15 in the first half was the worst play call of the season especially since it had not worked all season! Then mcdumbass punts from the new England 41!! Idiots! I thought dick jauron was coaching.

We have never been outside the Top 5 with Allen, with three different guys and various talent levels.

For me the debate ends when I consider how he would use an elite weapon outside. I don’t think he would lean into that. Which I think is something you need to do well to be an elite Coordinator.

So much of this is Allen hiding warts. Hands down we go 0-2 the last two weeks if it wasn’t for only Allen TD’s. The laser to Knox this week, multiple scores last week.

At the end of the day I see the potential for this offense with the right pieces to overwhelm the league and be virtually unstoppable. So I ask myself would he be the guy to try and orchestrate that and I think it’s a no for me.

Yeah that's fair. I was pretty pissed about the play call in real time. I will say though it looked like a lane was there but Palmer lost his block and Ty didn't hit the lane fast enough. Like when he first caught it I saw the open space in front of him and thought it was a for sure 1st down. And we have converted on plenty of those exact plays on 3rd downs this year. I just generally don't like taking the ball out of Allen's hands on the play that could win you the game.

If Palmer makes his block Ty picks it up. And it STILL annoys me. Throw past the sticks man.

I really think he has a hard time with WRs in general. And yes ours are bad.

He did a damn good job today.  If anyone is gonna criticize a guy who orchestrated 5 TD's in a row on the road against a rival, I just can't take 'em seriously.

Overall, I agree. Solid day. But I really dont want him here next year, nor do I think he will be. Hes not totally to blame though. Complimentary football kind of sucks... Apparently more in the first half.

Hard disagree. When he had weapons outside (not elite ones, just good ones) with Carolina they both went over 1,000 yards with Teddy Two Gloves at QB.

When he tookover he looked at the talent and leant into James Cook. He uses the peices at his disposal. If the Bills gave him an elite receiver of course he would lean into that.

He's been far more creative these last three games. That nifty little FB dive was cool to seal it. Take away a couple dumb WR screens and he has been quite good.

Makes no sense that Davis didn't dress and Palmer did.

Imagine if he turns on the tape and sees Shakir catching the ball over the middle. Maybe that will open his eyes.

They need to go to Shavers a few times next week so there is at least a threat of the pass when he is on the field.

Hopefully Kincaid came out OK and is healthy down the stretch.

Not sure what to think about Cooks. He is faster and get open more than Palmer, but Palmer at least catches the ball.

Keep feeding the RB and TE

If it’s 3rd or 4th down, THROW THE BALL PAST THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE!

I mean how hard is it to figure this out?  Seems to be rocket surgery for Brady.

The thing that killed me is - on our 2nd to last possession (I believe), we went run, run, screen pass, punt. I could not believe late in the 4th only up by 4, they ran that set of plays. I even joked in the 2nd half thread they were gonna throw a screen and they actually did 🙄
