I don’t know where i stand with Joe Brady

He has been inconsistent this entire season, hasn’t developed a steady downfield passing game, doesn’t know how to scheme open his WRs. And he can be way too predictable sometimes. 

 

But at the same time the Bills scored 28 unanswered points against the top team in the AFC. James Cook is a legitimate super star. And Allen statistically is having another MVP worthy season. The offense itself seems much more physical than previous seasons where it was more of a finesse offense under Daboll & Dorsey. 

 

What do you think ? Obviously we need an entire season to really evaluate everything, but where do you stand at the moment?

I mean they’re the top rushing team in the league and in the top 15 passing offense.  He’s doing that with the worst receiver room in the league.  So that’s all super impressive.  But at the same time- they are a bit too unimaginative in terms of self-scouting and changing their tendencies.  That third down screen to Johnson broke me.

Here I'll help, he still sucks and we can do better! He certainly didn't win the game for us, the players did in spite of his bad play calling & poor feel for the game, which has been consistent throughout the year, especially in the first half of almost every game. He has a very mediocre uncreative pedestrian offense that's pretty predictable with basically a handful of the same plays every week. There's nothing he's doing creatively with the run game, he's just lucky enough to have very good running backs on the team, especially Cook.

On one hand I would like to see more explosive plays in the passing game, but on the other James Cook is the best player on the roster not named Josh Allen..

Despite having a unicorn QB he has one of the hardest jobs in the NFL in terms of coordinating a passing offense. There are no cheat codes for a WR room as abysmal as ours is. Overall I think he does a good job of knowing what we do well and leaning into that. His run scheme is legit. His pass scheme is never going to wow you but again I question how much of that is on him.

 

I put him firmly in the middle of NFL OCs. That's not based on any kind of educated ranking, it just feels right. Mostly he gets out of Allen's and Cook's way which is the best thing he can do. The occasional play call brain fart like today's 3rd down to Ty Johnson is the kind of thing every fan for every team complains about from time to time.

He did a damn good job today.  If anyone is gonna criticize a guy who orchestrated 5 TD's in a row on the road against a rival, I just can't take 'em seriously.

Broncos just ran one on third down up a score late in the 4th while I was reading this haha that’s weird timing…went for it on fourth and didn’t get it

if your going to run a screen on 3/4 down...at least kick some blockers over there.  im still pretty meh on him.

Final sentence I disagree with…that screen was set up well it had pretty much no business not working.  That wasn’t on coaching at all imo.  Palmer didn’t hold his block well and Ty looked like he could’ve done more to avoid his blocker there.

The numbers say the offense is fine. And there is an obvious talent issue at WR. But Josh Allen props him up. The fires Dorsey when he had good advanced metrics. I'm hoping for the same with Brady

The TJ gains first down if 5 keeps his block. But yes the bubbles are not my favorite. They scored 5 straight TDs vs a solid D on the road. I think today I’ll hold off on too much criticism.

His situational play calling is what drives me nuts, 3rd and short in particular. It seems difficult for him to get into a rhythm early in a game.

 

It seems the only time he gets dialed in is when his back is against the wall and he has to turn Josh loose.

He's likely better than he's given credit for on this site. Better than average and around top 10 amongst OCs.
