Different game, same story.  We have no WRs to strike fear in the defense so teams stack the line to stop Cook and spy Allen.  The suck up the safeties, press the WRs because they know they aren't getting beat deep and just tee off up front.  Because we have no screen game, and haven't since McDermott arrived, we have no counters.  No answers.  

 

Even if there is something open underneath, because the defense is playing so shallow, there is no RAC.

 

Without an alpha to dictate coverage, the defense is in control and will dictate on their terms.  It's a no-win situation for Allen.  He's trying to make plays, but has no help from players or his coaches.  And when everyone know the defense can't stop anyone, it puts even more pressure on Allen to have to be perfect to keep up on the scoreboard.

 

Until this team realizes that Allen being the focal point of the offense and surrounding him with weapons is the best way to win, we're going to struggle.  This team was at it's best when Allen had Diggs, Brown, and Beasley and could just light up the scoreboard.  Because they were so explosive on offense, that put fear into the other team to keep up which allowed our defense not to have to worry about the run so much and just play the pass.  But teams don't fear our offense and know that they will be able to keep it close because we aren't a threat to score on every possession like we did when we were humming.
