Yes, because he was a.) a Quarterback who doesn't get hit often, compared to a player who is hitting people play to play and b.) was maybe the greatest player of all time at that position.

 

There were concerns with Samuel's game before he had the surgery. His name carries more weight than his prestige on the field. And there's a sliding scale in both talent and the position you play that dictates taking a risk on someone coming off a Spinal Fusion surgery.

 

Peyton Manning and Asante Samuel Jr. aren't remotely comparable besides having the same injury.

He's the son of a great CB, he hasn't been the 2nd coming of him on the field.

 

Because of his name he'll have suitors lined up for him, probably a bidding war, Beane likely won't be one of them.

Bro it’s spinal fusion surgery. Doesn’t matter what position you play. It’s football. Anybody is capable of getting folded in half. Even quarterbacks.

Just had lumbar spine surgery without fusion.  3 weeks in. just started to walk without assistance.  It's a big deal.  Hoping to play non contact sports again.  Contact sports- no way.   I find it hard to believe Samuel is willing to take the risk of NFL hits.  Yes, he a super athlete but he's still missing part of his spinal column.

 

edit.  He had C spine surgery.  not lumbar.  perhaps that's less risky.

Jack didn't want the fusion surgery, he preferred a replacement disk. Lucky, it’s worked out for Jack….I live in Vegas now

There’s risk that come with both, the risk isn't completely risk-free from what I understand.

you're still missing the point.  all QBs take a beating.  it's up to the player to accept the risk.
