One thing you have to say about this McBeane administration is that they've created the most positive, family-like locker room in football.  And not in the "coach lets us do what we want" way, either.  It's a fantastic situation for being perpetually ahead of the game in FA acquisitions.

Especially with Hoecht tearing his Achilles in Week 9. It's likely we may not have him to start the season. May also be the last year of A.J. Epenesa, who is really having a helluva season as an off the bench, rotational DE.

So much of that is due to having a modest, unassuming superstar quarterback.

Agreed to an extent.   The locker room was already well on its way to being like this before they drafted Josh.   Josh is a massive part of what it is now but the Coach and the front office set the tone as soon as they got here.

I agree.  with the injuries, they really need to strategically use or not play Joey going forward.  Yesterday was obviously a huge game and it was all hands on deck.

 

He’s typically an injury waiting to happen and this dude is necessary for the playoffs.

My heart sank for a bit early in the game when Bosa made a big tackle in the backfield and came up wincing and in a lot of pain with his right arm. But dude played through it and stayed strong the rest of the game so hoping it isnt too bad.

Here's the rub.

 

He's playing well enough that he's going to likely see a nice contract if he hits FA. Probably more than we will offer. So that leaves us with either paying a handsome contract or letting him walk and getting a possible 3rd or 4th round comp pick. 

 

If it were me, I'd sign him. Something like a 2 year 26M deal. But Beane likes pick and especially if he makes some moves today or tomorrow, I could easily see him letting Bosa walk to recoup picks.

If he continues this level of play, he’ll sign somewhere for mid 20s-30s at the very least. With pass rushing contracts now in the mid 40s, there’s no way he re-signs for less than Rousseau ($19M AAV).

If he can stay healthy and continue to play strong, perhaps in a year or 2 he can convince his brother to come here

Agreed.  And I like picks too because they're young and cheap but every pick is a roll of the dice, and those dice don't always land the way Beane wants them to.  Think Elam, just to give one example.

Joey is, at this point, a proven commodity.  Well, we don't know if he can stay healthy, but we do know he can play when he is.  Pay the man.
