Yeah EXCEPT - Tomlin inherited a Super Bowl ready roster when he took over for Cowher.  Had a future HOF QB at the helm, and several other HOFs/All-pros.

Who did McD inherit again?

Also had a hall of fame defensive coordinator who was the backbone of the franchise.

the media couldn’t praise Tomlinson enough meanwhile he had a Super Bowl winning team with its culture and leadership baked in, a franchise qb and again a defensive coordinator who was among the best to ever do it.

This would have been more shocking if this was, like 2018....

The Rooney family has entered the same circle of idiocracy as that of the Mara family.

My buddy is a lifelong steeler fan and has wanted to get rid of Tomlin for at least 10 years. He’s given up just like anyone who wants McDermott gone should give up. Owners want to make money and as long as teams are “good” and making money which both the Steelers and bills do, no changes will be made. Jmo

agree...I cant see Pegula firing McD unless we slip from making the playoffs...for say 2 years in a row.

in that case firing and hiring a new coach would mean roster overhaul...Josh may or may not be in for that..press the rebuild button in that case...

That is the consensus with most Steeler fans. The other side of them are like most of us here… If they can a coach who’s proven to win regardless of circumstances and lead the team to the playoffs, do you take a step backwards.

The big difference is the Steelers have no QB for the future.

I've always admired Tomlin but that Packers game was embarrassing and not just because of the clown unis. Their defense has fallen off the face of the earth. Tomlin's loyalty to Teryl Austin might be his undoing. Luckily for them their division looks like an unlikely cakewalk. This might be the worst roster in Tomlins' career. Outside of Metcalf they have nothing on offense.

yep and they have for ages. My life time steelers fan friend laughs every year about it since I can remember (he knows Tomlin is actually a very good head coach). I'm with Happy Days though on the point that they are like the drought Bills and need to take their medicine and crash out (but not that they need to fire Tomlin). By the way, the steelers fans hated Bill Cowher too.

It's crazy they are growing frustrated even though he keeps winning despite them giving him an actual QB since Rodgers. He's had a winning season with Devlin Hodges, Mason Rudolph, Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, it's a miracle that he can get to the playoffs with those castoffs.

Mike Tomlin had an elite quarterback and went to two Super Bowls, winning one.   He coached in a third, winning that one.

He has three appearances and two victories.

Call me in a few years when you want to talk about him and Sean McDermott.   Also, the Pittsburgh fan base is split.   They don’t hate Tomlin.   Those who want to move on have a bar set much higher than our franchise with regard to ongoing expectations.   He helped create and sustain those expectations.

Tomlin seems to have lost his fire-about three years ago.  He wants to win but doesn’t have the drive to do it in PA any longer. He’s a good coach albeit overrated IMO.  A change of venue would be good for him-and I bet he does well for three or four years.

For them to be split even is obseen , and shows just how ignorant fans are across the league

That same co-ordinator carried Cowher's dumb ass for at least a decade

Yeah but I've been adamant here for 5 years McDermott is better than Tomlin

McDermott could have won a super bowl with that Steelers roster I don't think Tomlin is doing anything with the bills

2017 Steelers had five all pros on it... Sean McDermott is doing a lot with not five all pros

Our best players are always banged up in the playoffs

Tomlin's head coaching record as of the end of the 2024 season is a regular season record of 187-109-2 (4-3 in 2025) and a playoff record of 8-11.

He has a career regular season win percentage of .631 and a playoff win percentage of .421, has won one Super Bowl..(41-45  in coach challenges/video reviews) .holds the record for most consecutive non-losing seasons to begin a coaching career with 18 and has never had a losing season..only Tom Landry (21) more non-loosing seasons

Said to make 16M per.

Similarities to McDemott:  91-47....659 winning percent..7-7 in playoffs... 1 loosing season out of 8...(11-27 in coach challenges/video reviews) William and Mary mates...defensive "wizards" who figure it out and win enough to keep the contracts coming but have post-season blemishes that irritate and frustrate...

Further..McDermott... as the clock ticks off the years of his franchsoe QB...has never won a playoff road game and if NE wins the AFC East Bills will be on the road for the entire playoffs loosing one of the best home field advantages of weather and crowd...

So the same narrative applies more or less

The problem isn't never winning a playoff road game.

The problem is Kansas City. Let's not kid ourselves.

Since they became a good enough team, in 2020 to win playoff games, they've only had three away games, all losses to Kansas City. And the problem wasn't being away. They lost their home playoff game to Kansas City as well.

The problem is Kansas City.
