How is it tipping your hat? What information are you getting from "I have a plan" vs. "I have no idea what we're doing"? Because one makes you sound more confident? 

 

The fact of the matter is it probably doesn't change much whoever we have at backup safety, and if the Panthers are spending cycles gameplanning around that particular player I'd be shocked. 

 

I don't really dislike McD. It's weird that you're being so argumentative and trying to force a narrative.

I know Beane is getting criticized for the roster but IMO this is one area where he deserves it. The fact that we rolled into the season with Rapp, Bishop and Damar as our core group was short sighted. Additional, it highlights when you continue to throw a ton of resources year after year on the DL with minimal hits, it creates significant roster gaps elsewhere.

 

Rapp: Struggles staying healthy

Bishop: Who more than struggled his rookie year.

Damar: Who is slow and isn’t a NFL starter

 

This is who Beane and McDermott decided to roll with? And to make it worse we sign Poyer who we all appreciate his time as a Bill but his best days are behind him.

 

On top of that, they knew Rapp had a potential serious injury in training camp but couldn’t weave in getting Hancock ready? Even worse, you’ve watched for SEVEN weeks of Rapp struggling and still couldn’t get Hancock ready?

 

Really inexcusable IMO!

You even stated in your prior post something to the effect of:  "we all know it's poyer".     Saying "i have a plan" points to Poyer.   Saying i have no clue leaves room for speculation.

 

McDermott is a master of keeping the cards close.  That's all this is.  I'm sorry you don't like the guy.

I don’t know what Rapp’s injury is…it looks like he’s allergic to physical contact, just has no desire to play anymore, after being one of our best tacklers last year.  Truly puzzling…

Yeah, I think it makes sense to have Poyer in to set the secondary (at least at times), some of the plays I've seen leave me with the impression secondary assignments aren't being correctly set at times.

McDermott's of course not going to give a decision until gametime to keep Carolina guessing.  It gives us such a competitive advantage, lol.

It'll be interesting to see how we do this.  Don't know how much we use Hancock, but I'd rather see Poyer in with him at least to start.

It's not just that this GM drafts a ton of defensive players. The coach won't play half of them. 

 

He won't dress our 3rd round pick. 

 

We have injuries everywhere in the secondary and we drafted like 15 DBs this year but some never even get a chance. 

 

It's a pattern. Every year certain rookies might as well just be cut, because they are never getting a chance. 

 

For guys that are "one mind" this is bizarre.

And Rapp was pretty good last year. Maybe he can come back to form. He likely had nagging small injuries before that IR one.

Was he though? Or did he get a pass because everyone focused on Hamlin's poor play? PFF (and I realize the source so of course take it with a grain of salt) actually had Hamlin rated higher than Rapp last year.

I think Poyer and Hancock will both get some reps at safety.  Who knows, Sam Franklin might even get a few.

Last I saw he was in historically bad company on pressure rate or something similar. I forget exactly what.... but add that in to forceable R-word's, and a giant no thanks from me.

 

Im willing to overlook more off field stuff than almost anyone else, but that and anything with kids is a no from me.

You know what the difference between Justin Simmons and Jordan Poyer is? We watched Jordan Poyer's decline first hand in Buffalo and Miami wherein Simmons was in another division and another conference. So you and others still think of him as the same guy you saw in Denver years ago.

 

It's the same thing with Simmons as Poyer. A once All Pro that has seen injuries and time catch up to them. Where their name carries *way* more caché than their performance on the field at this point shows.

 

Last season, Justin Simmons ranked 117th amongst all Strong Safeties in the league. Jordan Poyer ranked 114th amongst Free Safeties. Safety is a weak spot amongst many teams in the league and many have dealt with injuries like us. Yet not a single team has called on him.

 

He's not Justin Simmons anymore.

I wonder if they could give Ja'Marcus Ingram some more playing time. He seemed to make some plays last year in spot duty although he probably made mistakes also but can he be any worse than an aging White ? Anybody have an assessment on him ?

He rode the bench while Elam maybe had the worst game by a CB in NFL history in the AFCCG. I can't imagine what it would take for him to see the field.

According to Joe Marino, Ingram’s play at cornerback this year has been significantly worse than Tre White’s. So there’s that…

I get what you're saying. What I'm saying is all our safeties suck. It's no advantage at this point.
