Scott7975 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I don't know if this is just by Brady's offensive design or if the receivers are all just that bad or what, but we need to be able to pass the ball downfield. Dink and dunk is fine. It also has to be part of our arsenal. It can't be the entire gameplan though. A downfield pass game opens that stuff up more. We have a QB with the biggest cannon in the NFL and we don't even use it anymore. I know people will say that we just don't have any receivers capable of it. I don't really believe that. I see no names all the time catch downfield balls. If it's true then it's true. If thats the case then I as much as I hate to say it... we need Gabe Davis back on the active roster. I don't trust his hands, but the dude has made downfield plays for us. It needs to be part of our arsenal. We aren't going to dink and dunk our way to a superbowl. It takes too much precision and leaves no room for mistakes. Hell, I think this Pats game was the first time I seen Brady take a shot on 2nd and 1 instead of just running the ball to pick up the first down. I been banging the table about that since last year. JaCrispy Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago While I agree that a downfield passing attack would be nice, unfortunately, we do not, currently, have the personnel for it. 1 Quote
philholbroo Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago downfield is not part of the current coaching plans. its be careful and run clock and hope the other team makes a mistake. Quote
Mike in Horseheads Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Great post, I don't think this has been discussed ever here before 3 Quote
PaoloBillsFanFromItaly Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago We need a downfield passing defense. 2 1 Quote
davefan66 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Can’t limit all of our offensive plays to within 15-20 yards of the LOS…or less. Need to open it up and make the defense defend a larger filed. Gotta let Josh be Josh. Quote
SunDSolar Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Their is one ***** team(NO) that has a deep threat guy(Shaheed) that maybe we could pry away from them Outside of that there really isn't a guy that is better then what we have now Quote
ClosetFan Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I think this topic has already been bludgeoned to death Quote
Conlan58 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I think the more accurate statement would be: we need a coach that has the balls to call a downfield passing play... Quote
Chandler#81 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Yes. Call in the BEAR JEW! If NFL Defenses allowed downfield passes, we would. It’s benn nearly taken out of the game. Quote
Sweats Posted 38 minutes ago Posted 38 minutes ago We're not looking for the long ball anymore........we're playing more of a stick-to-stick kind of play, just looking for 1st downs to keep the drives going and as much as it is boring to watch, it's the way today's NFL has been headed for awhile now. It's a system that works, until it doesn't. When teams figure out how to defend the middle of the field and take away any type of running game, well you end up with a system that can't do anything to produce yards.......it becomes stagnant, and we don't have the type of on-field personnel or coaching staff that knows how to change their philosophy or playing style on the fly for making any in-game adjustments to counteract or produce any momentum. I agree that i would love to see a WR1 that can stretch the field and keep the D's honest, but it's just not in the cards for this franchise.......they just don't see the value in it and wouldn't know what to do in game planning a true field stretcher into the lineup. The FO is doubling down on their coaching strategy and philosophy of keeping the plays in the middle of the field and as we saw in the NE game and will continuously see throughout the season, it's a system that works, until it doesn't.
