The idea of a mediocre Davis running routes dialed up by a mediocre Brady doesn't excite me.  I don't see the big leap forward.

At this point, realizing there probably aren’t any stud receivers available through trade or off the street, the best scenario may be to have good blocking receivers who can help spring Cook. Gabe can block. 

The Bills future for this season is in the run game.

So you think we're better off with Tyrell Shavers, who has gone without a catch in 5 games while being dressed for all of them? Or Elijah Moore who has a total of 5 catches for 78 yards? Or Curtis Samuel, who's played in only 3 games and has a total of 3 catches for 35 yards? 

 

I vehemently disagree with this notion that we're better off not using him when that's what we're getting out of HALF of our WR core.

Gabe Davis and Tre Tucker be ideal for me. For starters I like Tucker. And Gabe Davis can catch the deep ball on occasion which is always nice.

I don't see Tucker being moved. Meyers is the guy that Vegas would trade, if anybody. And I think the Tyler Lockett acquisition today forecasts that.

 

If you want speed and deep ball, it's Rashid Shaheed.

Shaheed!  Shaheed!  Shaheed!  This is the obvious, plausible WR for the Bills to acquire.  If we planned better, we wouldn’t be desperate for an outside WR.  But Beane made his bed, it’s his problem to fix.

 

Shaheed is on books for $1.2 million- so we don’t have to do advance salary gymnastics to get him on our roster.

 

Yes we will overpay.  But who’s fault is that Beane?

The WRs are largely ass. Curtis Samuel is gadgety, and Shakir is still great with a hair of space, but nobody and I mean nobody can separate or give some fear deep. I’m not sure what Tyrell Shavers does outside of wearing Diggs’ number and getting a significant amount of cardio.
 

The Pats pressed all night. This was basically the 2024 Ravens defensive gameplan. They dared us to throw all over them. We could not.

 

Some folks say we need to trade for a WR. That would be nice.

 

But the answer may be on our bench right now. 
 

We need some guy to run a go or skinny post and be a bit dangerous. Can Gabe still do that?

Shaheed might be a one-year rental and cost a 3rd rounder and something else but he might be the best option out there at the moment. The Saints are in clear rebuild and have huge dead cap number for both 2025 and 2026 that should get cleaned up in 2027. Make them an offer.

Gabe is a great blocker and better than any of the current WR's other than maybe Shakir at finding ways to get open when Josh leaves the pocket

He doesn't have to be. We just need opposing defenses to have to respect the outside/deep parts of the field. Gabe was always able to separate, we do not have a threat of that now. 
 

We need the middle of the field opened up so Kincaid and Shakir can eat.

After seeing him in person, yes, he sucks. He's big and slow but plays small and slow. He's a body catcher and his body language is awful. Swing and a miss.

No one is pinning their hopes that he's our savior. But when you have a WR core that is filled with guys who can't get open, aren't producing, or in some cases (definitely Shavers) aren't NFL caliber WR's - Gabe Davis is an upgrade over at least a couple of the guys we have.

 

I'm not saying get Gabe in here and we're set. Definitely see if you can get someone else in the Trade market (although Jakobi Meyers or Rashid Shaheed seem to be the only realistic options) as well. Yeah. He also never had less than 549 yards or 6 TD's in a single year for us. Buffalo career highs of 836 yards and 7 TD's in 3 of his 4 years for us.

 

I hate to break it to you, but guys like Tyrell Shavers (5x this season), Elijah Moore (2x this season), and Curtis Samuel have ALL put in 0 catch games for us already. And it's only been 7 games!

 

Of course, Gabe Davis is more like eating at McDonald's than a 5 star restaurant. But when you're eating out of a literal garbage can, McDonald's is pretty enticing.

 

 

Yeah, Hollins isn't an option though. Nor is there a Davante Adams level WR to be traded for this year. Likely the best we can hope for is something like a Jakobi Meyers and Gabe Davis replacing guys like Tyrell Shavers and Elijah Moore on the roster.

 

It's insane to me that people honestly feel like we'd be better off just doing what we're doing over trying everything we can at our disposal. And Gabe Davis over any number of guys we have now would be an upgrade.

I’m not disagreeing with you. How Beane and McDermott have assembled our WR core is horrible! We are literally getting NOTHING from Coleman, Samuel and Shavers and little if anything from Moore. Then you factor in Kincaid can’t stay healthy and your only reliable WR is Shakir. But yet we think our passing game is good!

 

The S position isn’t much better. What’s even worse is Beane’s remedy was bringing back Gabe, Poyer, Hamlin and Jordan Phillips!

Judging by others who have had the same injury as Gabe had, the speed reduction is immense. It would be improbable that he would be able to get open and create space. Then again Diggs did it against us albeit due to McD's soft zone coverage.

Say what you will, but Gabe is BY FAR the best offensive weapon sitting on any team's practice squad. I know because I looked at them all during the bye. So, if the Bills don't sign him to the 53 the second he comes off PS IR, some other team will.

If they do something like this it better be with the intention of signing him to a long term deal.  If they give up a 3 they have to make him part of the team with a four year extension or something.  That will keep his money down and keep him on the team.

 

Everyone everywhere just doesn't care about draft picks because they have missed at wr but what if the next time they nail it and get a good player in the 2nd or 3rd round.  That player will be cheap and locked in for 3 to 4 years.  

 

I hate the idea of trading picks for wr during a season but something is clearly not right at the moment with the passing game and Samuel and Palmer are always hurt so they need to do something.  My biggest hope is it is someone who plays every week as a baseline.  

 

Allen does not want to take chances and throw balls to moore or samuel it seems at all so they need to do something.

That all makes sense too. If I'm the GM I'd be willing to give up that 3rd rounder if only to get a WR that has speed and proven ability to separate and get open at the NFL level with a QB inferior to mine and an OC with less to work with than Brady. Because it will help get to the root of the Bills WR problem. Its either one of three things (or a combo?).

 

1) My current WRs can't separate from the defender. This is the most popular choice.

2) My OC's passing schemes and play calling is deficient.

3) My QB's decision making is faulty.

 

Trading for Shaheed should eliminate number 1. That should open up the Bills downfield passing game and stress the defense in order to get the rest of the receiver group less attention from the defense. But if suddenly if he forgets how to get open and his production plummets from what he showed with the Saints then the problem is my OC's schemes and play calling or I've got an issue with my QBs decision making.
