Coming out party for the D-Line Sunday Night

I think this will go down as the biggest performance of the year from the D-Line in total sack numbers, even after all the other guys come back.  Here’s why;

 

Maye likes to hang onto the football and has been sacked a lot this season as a result.  

 

The Pats can’t run the ball and will be forced into some long yardage situations with a young quarterback.  

 

It’ll be a warm, beautiful night in Western New York which nobody should take lightly…train horn rollin, the blizzard uni’s flocking to the QB…it’ll be a beautiful sight.
 

If Brady forces the issue like I think he will and makes NE play chase, I just don't see them holding up.

 

Maye gets sacked 6 times in this game which is a season high for Buffalo and will be the standard for the rest of the year.

Groot and Solomon would be nice to see them get home a few times.

Solomon was such a force in college, great leverage, bend.   long and fast.    He seems like he's had some really good reps going back to last year, needs to get pressures/hurries/sack numbers rolling now.  Sunday night is a perfect time for it

I do not share your optimism that Brady will unveil an aggressive gameplan designed to score early and often and force NE to chase the points. I think he will continue to do what he's done, to call a balanced, physical, heavy game. But what I'm interested to see is: what does he do if the Patriots bottle up the running game and WR screens and LOS in general? How stubborn will he be? Or, hopefully, how adaptive will he be?

Considering looking at last year's play calls to this year's play calls I think he's only called about 35% of his offense

I haven’t seen it mentioned, but I think he scripts the 1st group of plays. We’ve scored on every opening drive and looked so prepared for it. Obviously, a lot has to go into this, but the Offense is buying into racing down the field and scoring to start games.

I disagree with you on this. They have a good run game. Heavy hitter in Stevenson and a elusive 2nd back (don't know his name). They have the old "thunder & lightning" running backs that could be trouble for the Bills, especially with their tackling and gap issues.

I expect a close game. 

If the Bills rise up and play their A-game on defense, it may not be as close.  Seeing is believing. I'm not optimistic about that side of the ball.

 

The D-line was identified as the weak link following last season. So far, that characterization hasn't changed, even with the addition of Bosa and the draft picks.  IF Rousseau finally picks it up, and WHEN Oliver and Milano return, and WHEN the rookies are comfortable and play consistently, they might be better partners for the LBs and the secondary.  

 

Fortunately, we've got a QB who can lead an offense and outscore most opponents. But when the day comes that the O is not clicking (it's inevitable that will occur at some point), the D needs to come to the rescue. I don't feel confident they're there yet. Maybe as the season progresses we'll witness a defense that can stop the run and get off the field on 3rd and long.  

 

I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, Josh needs to keep his cape on.

I've read and heard that the running game wasn't the best. Something like 3.something yards per carry and they put the ball on the ground often enough. This is what has lead to Maye's 3rd down QB rating being so high. He's been forced to make plays on obvious passing downs and has found success. That being said if we couldn't stop the saints back up RB in Murray or is it Murphy  (my point exactly) then anyone is going to be a challenge.

I am with you... Josh is gonna need to wear a cape in this one...  I also get the Pats dont run the ball well... but they have not played this Defense... so I am not counting on forcing them into passing situations unless we get a big lead... hoping for Front 7 improvement though... lets just play and see...

This is a massively important game. Reminds me of the first Jets game last season in MetLife. Jets were 2-3 coming off some games they probably could have won. Bills were 3-2 coming after back to back losses after the 3-0 start. A win and the Jets tie the divisional race and get some momentum back. A loss for the Bills put them at .500 and in second place. The Bills won and got to 4-2 placing them 2 games ahead of the Jets, they made the Cooper trade a couple of days later and as much as people in retrospect didn't like the Cooper trade and didn't see the value in it, the offense was completely changed by the trade even if Coopers stats weren't the best. 

 

That was the pivot point for the season. Bills went 4-2 and then rattled off a bunch in a row and had the division sown up by late November. Jets lost 6 of the next 7 and went nowhere.
