Ugh! Dane Jackson is the only CB on the PS.  At least he's experienced and knows the system.  The Patriots aren't loaded with high end talent at receiver, so that's something.  Diggs and Boutte both know what they're doing though.  I don't imagine there are any great CBs out there in free agency five weeks into the season.

Not going to help tomorrow, but it looks like Kendall Fuller is still available.  He was lousy last year, but was dealing with a lot of injuries.  Maybe he's got something left in the tank at 30 years of age.

This is in large part why I made this post. I was hoping it was just some soreness in the Neck. But healthy on Wednesday to DNP on Thursday with a Neck injury was worrisome. Neck injuries aren't anything to play with :(

They'll have to get by this week on Benford, White, Ingram, and Lewis on the Outside bc of all the injuries to LB and DT this week.

Hopefully they get some guys back next week and we're in a position to call up Dane until Hairston is ready if Ingram/Lewis can't adequately fill the hole left by Strong.

Great. Sounds like the Bills are fielding their pre-season rosters on defense.
is it just my imagination or not that over the past 3 or so years, the Bills seem to have an inordinate amount of non-season-ending injuries that take out starters and often same position #2’s for multiple weeks?
is there something about their technique, conditioning, or are the Bills just overly cautious about activating hurt players?  It’s mostly on defense, but even the punters and kicker are among the walking wounded this year.

Said this in another post, but Ciarlo over Jenkins was surprising to me. We've called up Jenkins twice already to fill in for injuries at LB. We only have 1 more call up for him and had all 3 call ups for Ciarlo. So from just a roster management standpoint, it would have made more sense to elevate Jenkins to the 53.

Hopefully though, we get both Milano and Williams back soon and we don't take any more injuries to the LB position to where something like that would matter.

Or Ciarlo had a good week of practice that the coaches took note of and believe he earned a chance on the roster?

I don’t even know what our “starting lineup” was supposed to look like, and can’t really picture the last time we had 11 intended starters on defense able and ready to line up..

Well, at least we'll get an influx of talent after the bye week and we might still be 6-0.

Hoecht, Ogingobe and possibly Hairston.

We'll see, I hope we see Hairston's 21-day practice window open soon.

Then they could have signed Zion Logue, who we're also using our last elevation on this week, and elevated Ciarlo - with all three elevations at our disposal.

This isn't a shot on Ciarlo. Just a head scratching roster management decision to sign a guy who they haven't elevated once over guys like Jenkins who only has 1 elevation left or Logue who has 0 after this week. Especially with how unlucky we've been with injuries to this point.

McBeane seems to like the cut of Ciarlo’s jib, judging from what we saw in the preseason and Hard Knocks.

And adding salt to the wound is that veteran players like Rousseau and Epinesa (that ARE healthy) aren’t playing at a level that’s expected from those at their draft positions and game experience.  Not awful, but somewhat unremarkable. The top dog on defense is a 1-year FA that would surprise most if he remained healthy and active all season.

Really strange.  Maybe they something we don’t know about Dorian’s and Milano’s injuries 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's not your imagination. Every team deals with injuries. But the frequency and magnitude of the injuries we've deal with over the past few years seems a little high. And it doesn't seem to matter who's running Strength & Conditioning, as the issue remains even after having multiple different guys running that department.

One thought i've had is that maybe McDermott pushes them too hard in Practice during the week. Ironically, that thought popped up during an inteview with Ed Oliver after the practice he got hurt in, when he said:

Quote

Yeah, full pads on a Wednesday after, you know, after a 60 minute game where we had to play all 60 minutes. Hey, it's a little challenging. It's trying mentally, you know, to get yourself back right. And you're still kind of hurting. I know a lot of guys on the team are still hurting. And still, you put on the full pads and you go out there and compete because that's who we are.

The other side of that though, if he pushes the team harder in practice than a lot of teams, is if that is the case - is perhaps it's part of the reason we've been so successful the past few years. So it might be a double edged sword. Again, if that is the case.

Why is "Veteran's Rest" considered to be on an Injury Report...

Because the rule is, you list every player who  doesn't fully participate in every practice during the week.

Nothing to see here. Beane is just using IR like a tool. We have several players returning from suspension and injury. This frees up a roster spot without having to cut someone. Lets us kick the can down the road. We’ll need to make some choices in a few weeks, but I think we’ll see young players moved to IR with mysterious injuries rather thank making cuts. Keeps them in the family so they can “recover” for next year.

Maybe a team was trying to claim him?

Ciarlo takes some of Joe A's special teams reps and Joe A gets a few series at LB to spell the vetetans.

Dorian Strong is at worst our 3rd Boundary CB. An argument can be made that he's performed better than White and White was even pulled for him last week for a while.

If this was just a move to fit someone on to the roster, they'd have done it Week 8 when they actually have the players available to put on the roster. Short changing us at CB for Week 5 and Week 6 before we can elevate those players, especially with Strong instead of someone like Ingram, makes absolutely no sense.

I firmly disagree with the idea of Strong being fully healthy on Wednesday to being IR'ed for a Neck injury is "nothing to see here" and was something done to make room for players we won't have for weeks.

I'd assume the jimmy ciacrlo signing is due to 1 special teams and 2 the fact he played some safety in college giving the team more position flexibility with likely having to lean on cam Lewis more at cb in case of injuries
