This is the kind of stuff that newish NBA franchises do when they're trying to inorganically build tradition. The whole "Mr. Brightside" thing falls under this dynamic too, by the way.

It's kind beneath a franchise like the Bills, in my opinion, but I think there is a big push across the league to appeal to the under-25 crowd. Seems the NFL is having trouble with viewership in that demo, and this is they type of stuff they like, I guess.

I’d push back on that. Traditions usually form organically - look at “Renegade” in Pittsburgh.

“Mr. Brightside” is something the players enjoy, the fanbase has embraced, and the players themselves participate in. That’s exactly how traditions take root. It wasn’t manufactured - it grew naturally.

Agreed.  The Bills announcing an artist and song as the “new” anthem would go over very differently.

I agree at scale, this group deserves its own traditions. It is partly why I am not hyped about the red helmets/Giants jersey's. (In addition to the current just being flat out bettter)

But strong disagree on the zubaz. They can have their own without throwing out the old. Zubaz was a dead brand for a while, declaring bankuptcy in 1996. The only place you could get them through the early aughts was at Goodwill. The resurgence of the design across the NFL is in no small part due to this fan base the last 10 years.

Medium strong disagree on the Shout Song. It has become as much a part of the Bills as Sweet Caroline is at Red Sox Games. People even get excited about the Isley Brothers version at weddings.

The Bills absolutely kept Zubaz afloat. Allen Iverson once kept Reebok relevant. We did our part. It’s a ridiculous look and we did it to be ironic. It was “our thing.” We don’t need to be the “goofy neighbor” anymore. We can move on from being Kramer, Urkel or Kimmy Gibbler. We don’t need gimmicks to be relevant. Zubaz are/were ABSOLUTELY a gimmick. It was us trying to be unique. It worked. “Bills Mafia” was relevant, passionate and quirky even when the team wasn’t very good. Now, that we’ve experienced sustained excellence, with the best player that we’ve ever had, we can “act our age” a little more. We can still go out, party and have fun. We just don’t need to dress up like it’s Halloween to attract attention for our team.

The Packers went Bart Starr -> Brett Favre -> Aaron Rodgers -> Jordan Love and they still wear cheese on their heads.

Keep the Zubaz. Maybe even make them Zubaz-ier.

This isn’t college where they turn over rosters every 4 years (or way less in the NIL era). Also, a lot of college teams have released new traditions over the last decade or whatever. The early 90’s team  was the genesis of a lot of this. The Shout Song probably stays but this era, absolutely deserves traditions that are unique to them. They don’t need to hang from anyone’s coattails. I actually find it odd that people are hung up on things like Zubaz. I own some. I even own a 20 ft long Zubaz carpet for events. That’s from the drought. That’s not the Josh Allen Bills. It’s time to move on.

I agree that it's ok for new traditions to be born which I think this team already has.  Mr. Brightside the glaring one.  But I don't think you have to erase team's history or past either in order to move forward.  Tons of other pro and college sports franchises have their team traditions that carry on and get passed down to the next generation.

No one is suggesting that we erase history. The tailgating, the passion, the traveling, etc… Those are the traditions. Going early and going all out is the tradition. Wearing goofy pants, that we wore during the drought to attract attention and jumping through tables, isn’t our glorious history. Fortunately, the table jumping is mostly dead now. I’m simply suggesting we do the same with the goofy Zubaz. No more gimmicks. I’m fine keeping Shout. I like the new traditions. We will have more in the new stadium too. I just think that culture, legacy, and identity are earned. The early 90’s teams are why I’m a Bills fan. I’m not suggesting abandoning what they accomplished. I’m simply suggesting that we continue to evolve. The traditions started by this team, like the early 90’s were organic. It’s okay for us to dump things from the drought like we did those ugly uniforms. There’s nothing special, or memorable about Zubaz. It is just gimmicky and attention seeking. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I wore the only white Bills shirt I own last week, and that was because it was 80 degrees outside. I could wear it again, but it will be covered up by a sweatshirt since it will be too chilly for this old man.

I don't think zubaz is a gimmick for the bills

Zubaz we're being worn at Buffalo Bills games in 89-90 well before we were bad

They were there for all four super bowl runs.. not something that came during the drought years

so I don't think it has to do with winning or losing.. it just has to do with Buffalo Bills fans like zubaz

 It's pre drought

You might not like zubaz, it's been here since the super bowl years so it's been a part of Bill's fandom look for a long time

that's like saying the cheese head is a gimmick for the Packers.. it's also kind of stupid but it's what they do

I will be wearing all white. And you if anyone wants to get me wet I will give you a show! I hope Hailey doesn't see me. She might be tempted.

It's all in fun. Let's have fun

People wore them seriously in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s everywhere. People had them in multiple colors. Go look up old Legion of Doom photos. It was, unironically, the style at the time. We stuck with it during the drought to be ironic. I don’t hate Zubaz. As I said, I own some and have that 20 ft carpet that I got directly from Zubaz for a party. It’s just a drought era thing like table jumping. It’s lame. I don’t expect them to go away but this era won’t be remembered for table jumping, Zubaz wearing goofballs. That’s the drought.

I definitely correlate the drought with table jumping but not with zubaz

You would be shocked to find out that table jumping is still going on at private lots all around the stadium

There are idiots still getting power bombed through tables

I’m not shocked. I’m at every game. The frequency of table jumping though is about 5% of what it was 7 or 8 years ago. FWIW, the Zubaz percentage has, thankfully, dropped significantly as well.
