Rousseau is a very good player currently suffering from a bone bruise in his leg that he got late in the Ravens game (which he played pretty well in). I *guarantee* you that it’s affecting his performance. They tend to be very painful. They do heal, though.

THANK YOU!!  Everybody kvetching about Groot.  Take a chill pill people.  He will be fine - let's see how spry YOU are after YOU get an NFL bone bruise?  You cats would be in a chair for 2 months.....minimum.

I thought that too in the moment, but he had 9 carries for 38 yards. I felt like Hill was destroying us, but he went 5 for 49. His longest catch was 19 yards and he only had 13 YAC. Dalton Kincaid, in contrast, had more catches (6), yards (66), and YAC (43) on four fewer targets. For as frustrated as we all were at the defense, they kept the game in front of them for the most part.

The only reason we are having this discussion is because McDimWit and his clock management at the end of the 1st half of the fish game.  If he would have left well enough alone that trying TD would have NEVER been scored.

Agreed. Watching the game at the time I was more exasperated with the defense than offense. On replay, it flipped.

I mean, McDermott himself was calling out Groot after the game. Should we all tell him to chill?

It was tough to watch in the moment, and the pass rush and 3rd down defense did stink, but it’s hard to really argue with holding that offense to 21 points and low total yardage with 4 three-and-outs and a turnover. I mean, if the Bills D can do that consistently, we’ll beat most teams with the offense we have.

I hadn't heard about the bone bruise, but I strongly suspected he had one of those "non-reportable" injuries that was affecting his play over the past couple games. He definitely is a better player than what we saw on Thursday, so hopefully the 10 days between games will allow him to heal up a bit and get back to form. I still believe Groot, Hoecht and Bosa can be a very strong group on the Edge if they can remain healthy.

That guy for the Dolphins that gave us fits was kind of like that. He would have looked great in a Bills uni.

EDIT: Ollie Gordon II...rookie, 6'1, 225lbs.

What fits did he give us? His 9 rushes for 38 yards?

We’re probably going to need a CB for when Benford launches with his head and has to miss time.  He’s not gonna make it to the end. LB to be safe.

I like our backs.  But if we could get a Cookie Gilchrist clone - i.e. a power back with speed - I'm in.  Defenses couldn't play 2-deep shells with itty-bitty coverage linebackers if we had a powerful bruiser like Cookie.

Give me an Eric Moulds clone at wideout and Josh would go off, assuming Brady knows how to scheme a downfield passing attack, which I do wonder about.

On defense, we have many needs.  Bruce Smith is too much to ask for but an Aaron Schobel clone to pair with Bosa would be great.  We need to generate more pressure.  And we need another good CB - I'd be thrilled if Tre simply regained his old form.  Maybe Bishop will evolve into something eventually but right now, I miss Poyer and Hyde.

It's all science.  Cloning can solve every one of our problems.

He was essentially Taron Johnson in a 4-3 when he was the Panthers. He's essentially in his prime, a bigger version of Johnson

This is a point I was going to make in another thread but didn't get to when discussing his career in Carolina with @Simon

The Bills tried to do something developing Lewis Cine what Shaq Thompson was in Carolina. Thompson isn't much slower than Johnson (4.66 vs 4.5) but he doesn't move as fluidly or have the hips that Johnson does. But he's 2" taller and almost 40 lbs heavier. This would have been a difference against the Ravens.

Thompson never quite reached his potential in Carolina which is why he never got the accolades his two teammates did (Davis, Keuchly) but he was a very important part of what was the best 3 LB's in the league.

Thompson can be the big nickel for us but I also have hope he can be a hybrid LB nickel with Johnson playing on the field to disguise a dime or quarters defense. Both Johnson and Thompson can cover man coverage. Thompson has done a tremendous job keeping himself at the angles needed to attack a potential pass catcher even if his speed can't always match his angles.

I have a lot of hope for something that will be phased in against strong passing teams and balanced teams like the Eagles, Chiefs, Lions, and even the Patriots. Teams who effectively use short passes to put the ball all over the field and use a run to supplement the pass. The eagles can lean on Barkley if they want but they just as easily will take the passes over and over again to the safe man.

It'll be interesting if we can tap potential on defense to cover our inadequacies.  I wish there was a viable option at safety.

Wtf is Simmons doing?

Safety apparently requires 10 years of prep to play in our system, so I doubt they make a move there …

Sorry. I just find this hilarious!! 🤣🤣

Exactly,  I'm ok so far with the 2025 version of the Bills defense. Of course I'd love for Rousseau & AJ to step up their game, but I don't ever see it happening. We're not going to be a top10 D and that's ok.  Get as many stops as possible and find that critical late game turnover. If we can consistently hold teams under 22-24 points, we should win 75% of our games. Getting Milano, Hoecht and Hairston back will produce a spark.  Just keep Joey healthy at all costs.....

Every move has to be weighed vs its cost financially to the salary cap, so the only change I think right now that can even be discussed is a Safety because our DL is gonna get better soon with no other fiddling needed.

I’ve said this before, it’s been three games. They have some new guys and some rookies playing, can we give this group a chance to gel? Why do some of you think they can just make a trade? To trade you have to have a trading partner.

Because it’s rough waiting to the last moment to realize that there is a problem. We do this every year. Every darn year. To me, what you see from a player early on is what you’ll get.
