Another stat that Cam Newton will undoubtedly be salty about when Allen surpasses him. He's only 8 TD's in front of Allen as it stands.

Live look at Cam as Josh closes in.

Jalen Hurts is 9 TDs behind him in about two-thirds of the games. I think Josh will play longer and likely stay ahead, but it would be unfortunate for someone to ***** that record from him.

That almost assuredly will happen before the season ends

That'll be a stat frequently mentioned when the MVP race heats up, along with the most overall TDs by a QB in his first eight seasons and the Bills franchise record for rushing TDs, two records Allen already holds. And of course there's the Bills victory over the Ravens two weeks ago. Meanwhile, Lamar is off to a fast start statistically, with seven TDs in two games.

Allen had the most Total TDs by a QB in his first 8 seasons in 6.75 seasons (after the Rams game). And that's with sitting out multiple 4th quarters, a few end of season games and missed a few games to injury in his rookie year.

When the NFL bans the shove this offseason, Josh will still get his typical rushing TD's for another few years. I think it will dramatically decrease Jalen's numbers.

That just means Cam will be forced to wear a more flamboyant hat in order to deal with the emotional trauma of Josh passing him.  How cool would it be to say Josh has as many rushing tds as Barry Sanders....

Do my eyes deceive me, or is Allen the #2 for QB rushing TDs?

Yeah, only behind Newton whom he should likely pass this year.

Nice topic/stat OP.

Josh's current pace has him scoring 9.29 rushing TDs per season. If he were to keep that pace (and Hurts doesn't surpass him), Josh would have the most rushing TDs in league history in about 10.5 years (at age 40). Now whether he can keep that pace as he ages remains to be seen, but even if he just kept that pace for 5 more years, he would already be in 5th place all-time. Unbelievable!

At his current pace, he would pass Cam Newton in week one of next season to be the QB with the most rushing TDs. And with two rushing TDs in the first two weeks this year, he is actually on pace for 17 rushing TDs this season (not that I expect that to happen)---but, if he did that, he would pass Cam around Week 11/12 this season.

It really is amazing. At his current pace (27.86 passing TDs/year), if Josh played 10 more years (to age 39), he would be 5th on the all-time passing TDs list. If he played 12 more years at his current pace (to age 41), he would be 4th all-time on the passing TDs list (behind only Brady, Brees, and Manning). But none of them were running QBs or anywhere near Josh's rushing TDs (Brady had 28 rushing TDs in his career, Brees 25, and Manning 18---Josh already has 67). It would take Josh 12.25 years (Manning), 13.5 years (Brees), and 16.25 more years (Brady) to pass their passing TD totals (at Josh's current pace)---which would mean playing at a high level to 41, 43, and 45 years old (so that probably won't happen).

But, he could literally end up with the most rushing TDs in history (or close) and say 4th/5th all-time in passing TDs. Currently Brady has the most combined TDs for a QB with 677 TDs. Josh had 262 TDs in his first 7 seasons (or 37.43 TDs/season). If he played 11.1 more seasons at that pace (to 40 years old), he could actually eclipse Brady for total TDs by a QB. Again, not sure he can keep up that pace that long, his body is taking a bigger toll than guys like Brady and Brees did (due to the rushing, extending plays, etc.), but it's amazing none the less that he even has a shot at it. We are truly blessed.

This obscenity filter snafu (I said snafu, oh omniscient obscenity filter, not *****) always makes me laugh.

I have trouble wrapping my head around this.  While the Bills haven't been blessed with many great QBs in our 65-year history, we have had several good RBs, including two Hall of Famers: OJ and Thurman.

And Josh has more rushing TDs than any of them.  It's incomprehensible.

And they're not all tush-pushes and QB dives.  In fact, most of them are longer.

We also have 17 game seasons now, not 14 like prior to 1978 (for OJ) or 16 (for TT)

Why? Marcus Allen had exceptional vision and feel for gaps along with one hell of a pile jump coupled with a long career. There’s a reason why he got the majority of the goal line snaps with Bo Jackson on the team.

Yeah, Marcus saw the goal line in 3 dimensions while defenders were working just 2. He was the same player in college and he was incredible to watch when his team was within a couple yards. A great RB and even better goal line expert- and a great guy to Bills fans that lived near him in Brentwood!

I’m not questioning his talent. I just didn’t remember him for the prolific touchdown production.

Yeah, but Allen only scores rushing TDs from the 1 yard line, that he vultures from his RBs. Source: idiots on twitter.

My favorite stat about that when fans of other teams bring it up. The average, in 2024, length of Josh’s rushing TD’s (6.6y) is longer than the average air yardage (4.5y) of Mahomes passing touchdowns

A large part of it is the longevity. M Allen played forever, especially for a RB. Seriously, solid TD production every year he was healthy for 15-16 years in the league. The guy scored 11 tds when he was 37! Just nuts. Imagine D Henry keeping it going for another 5-6 years. 🤯
