Bills 7.9 Million Over the Cap per Spotrac - Unknown Restructure or One Coming?

I've been keeping an eye on this, as they had us just slightly over the cap on the Top 51. I figured maybe there's something small that they didn't know about. And that we'd cut or trade some people that would free up some space. But we didn't move on from any potential cap clearing players. Now that we've moved from 51 to 53 and paid the Practice Squad, we're listed as 7.9m over.

 

Either there's some restructures coming, there's been one or more that we aren't aware of, or some type of other transaction will have to occur. As we not only need to be cap compliant, we'll have to come up with at least a couple million more for in season spending.

I guess so ? Is there another option ? Who would they cut to free up the money? I assume if a trade was to be had , they would have made it..

Pretty sure restructuring Dawkins frees up like 9 million in space. That seems like the most likely posibility but there are plenty of other option to make room without cutting anyone

Dawson knox being the 3rd highest cap hit on the team is still mind bending to me.

This is a typical reminder that Spotrac is a phenomenal site, however whatever number they have listed is usually a bit off from the number Beane has on his desk. 

 

That said I'm sure there will have to be a few moves made. Dawkins restructure is almost a given.

I agree that it's usually a little off. But they're very up to date with everything that's made available to the public. 

 

So that means between the number they have of everything that's out there and the number we have to be at with a little in season pool, there's 10m+ or so that isn't accounted for.

 

Which is more than just a little off. Which makes me wonder if a restructure has been done that we don't know about or one or more is coming.

They cannot be over the cap once the 53 is set?    Spotrac is probably not accurate or they don’t have restructures that have happened.

Again, that means there's restructures that were done that weren't announced. Which is entirely possible and something I am wondering about. 

 

They have everything that's public up until today. And like I said, they not only need to be at 0, they need to be like 2.5m in the positive for in season spending. That's not just a little off - that's over a 10.5m discrepancy. So I'm intrigued as to what we're missing here.

The league would not approve any contract that put a team over the cap. What that means is that at least one restructure has already happened. It just hasn’t gotten to Spotrac yet. @khlax3 mentioned Dawkins. That’s the most obvious restructure. Knox is the other one that will likely be done.

Worst deal ever… I was stunned when they gave it him…Beane in his infancy as GM…you don’t really see him making those kinds of bad deals anymore.

Was bizarre.

 

He was mediocre at best the first 2 seasons, then had a break out touchdown campaign in 2021. (which turned out to be pretty fluky)

Then Beane gave him the bag. Hated the contact extension then, and still hate it now

AJ contract was a 2 year deal worth an average of 6m a year, Max of 12m, and just 6.6m guaranteed. That's like nothing for a vet DE.

 

Look at what we signed Michael Hoecht for. Barely anyone knew who he was when we signed him to a 3 year deal worth an average of 7m, Max of 21, with 13.4m guaranteed.

 

From what we get out of AJ, his deal isn't remotely a bad one. Defensive End's are very pricy. AJ's deal is on par for a 3rd Defensive End or low end starter. Which is what he is.

I don't think they're wrong. They have everything that's been announced. There must be one like Dawkins and/or Knox that wasn't made public.
