Simon Posted August 26 Posted August 26 He's not learning this defense well enough in two weeks that McD would actually stick him out there. 3 5 1 2 Quote

But I’m hoping we sign a shoe box to replace Hamlin on game days. I think this guy is slightly better than said shoe box. After the bye he should be ready to roll 3 2 Quote
Ethan in Cleveland Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Sadly CB is actually a much worse problem than Safety at this point 1 1 Quote

947 Posted August 26 Posted August 26 He's only started in 10 games since the 2018 season, yes 2018. He retired, then un-retired in 2023, not exactly a spring chicken. He was a good player back in the day, but not exactly a pro bowler. I don't see why this was considered a surprise cut by the Chargers. Plus he's a Strong Safety, our bigger need is really at FS. 1 Quote
gobills404 Posted August 26 Posted August 26 He’s been in the league since 2013, I would sure hope he has a 93.5 grade going against practice squad players. 1 Quote
BananaB Posted August 26 Posted August 26 No one new is catching up to McDs standard for knowing the playbook anytime this year 1 Quote

After the bye he should be ready to roll I know most people here would blanch at safety in the first round but I really think we need an elevation there. Quote

I would still sign him though. In cover 3 or man defense he can be worked in. We transitioned a lot to man last year and there's a chance we will this year. I'll read up on him but know nothing about him to add his scheme fit. Two things... I just googled him and found one of the most searched for trends right now is Tony Jefferson Madden Rating. That's how people are deciding his worth right now. And he is a SS. We have Rapp. He seems to be a lot like Rapp, not fast, strong, and fairly old. Edited August 26 by boyst 1 Quote
RyanC883 Posted August 26 Posted August 26 perhaps he is the vet replacement for Forrest. I think Rapp/Hancock or Bishop could be sufficient, but I'd bring in a guy coming off a good preseason as another lotto ticket at the other safety spot. Quote

Breakout Squad Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Why not try and get him? Anything and everything to get to the Super Bowl Quote

For there to be a "replacement for Forrest", Forrest would need to have had a spot on the 53 man roster to replace. On top of the 3 you mentioned, there's also Hamlin and Lewis (who is a Safety and a Nickel and a ST'er). We don't have a spot on the Roster for another Safety and he's not going to replace any of those guys. It honestly feels like now that Forrest hasn't replaced Hamlin, people are scrambling to find literally any other Safety out there that can be their new hope to see signed to replace him. It's time for those people to move on to the acceptance phase. That isn't going to happen. Especially not for a 33 year old Safety who's played a total of 5 starts in only 29 games over the past five seasons combined - that would have to learn the Defense and the Playbook while real bullets are flying.
