I always thought, even when gambling was officially illegal, the reason why the NFL requires teams to disclose injuries and rate the player's chance of participating in the next game (out, doubtful, questionable) was to help the bookies set the line.

In fairness, as a fan I would prefer this mentality.  Its a competitive league.  Im not saying full on Bounty Program or Spygate, but if there are grey areas to get any type of advantage in..... yes, game the system.

i tend to agree with you.

People are unhappy with the return on investment to this point on Keon Coleman, imagine Drafting Ja'Lynn Polk 4 picks later.

In his Rookie season, he played in 15 games and had 7 starts. His stat total for the year were 12 catches, for 87 yards, and 2 TD's.

Now he's potentially missing Year 2 to an injury.

Ouch.

But what was his 40 time?

I imagine he’s not happy with an insider telling someone in the media they think it is season ending as soon as last night or this morning. Normally teams want an injured player to go through the process of tests, MRIs, evaluations, multiple opinions, etc. before they tell the media the details of the situation.

I can see him being upset over how it was handled by his staff rather then him trying to play games to hide an injury against league rules.

There's a lot of information being spread in this topic but superseding much of it is that NFL teams are not required to disclose injuries until the week of week 1 of the regular season.

Speaking only on the issue of confidentiality, I'd want the Bills to be the most secretive team in the NFL.

It makes me laugh, all these posters whining that the Bills haven't updated the Tre White situation... as if they're being denied their god-given right to know.

Simply for the sake of confidentiality (not process) Vrabel should be upset.

I've heard that some organizations will release misinformation to figure out where leaks in the organization are coming from.

Ah, thank you, good info. Doesnt change the second part tho. Teams only need to report if guys are missing practice time.

If they had to report every injury that players were playing through, every injury report from every team would be 10 pages long.

There would come a point in the season when every team's entire 53 is listed in some capacity, minus maybe a K or P or LS. But I suspect even those guys work through soft tissue stuff and definitely multiple contusions that would put many of us on short-term IR from our daily lives. We'd be like, "Remember that time my ribs turned blue and purple and black (then yellow and green) for like an entire winter? I couldn't sneeze, without throwing up from the pain, for months. My wife and I couldn't be intimate that fiscal quarter and now I'm sleeping in my car." Etc. Etc.

I don't think it ever was intended to "help" bookies.  Just the opposite.  It would prevent gamblers capitalizing on knowing that a player was definitely or unlikely to play in a game when most did not, and betting accordingly.  It also lessens teams' ability to hide how available players are for upcoming games.

They have too many WR3-4 types.  Polks shoulder is the likely scapegoat to keep them from cutting him

Vrabel with a little 4-D chess: Acting angry about the leak when he really wants it perpetuated, in order to stash Polk on the I.R.
