One year .5% total. I can guarantee you if you go line by line you will find many things just as annoying or unneeded as a taxpayer. Exactly, a stadium is at least a tangible asset that will generate guaranteed income. Quote
Logic Posted August 22 Posted August 22 I mean this in the most literal way possible: It elicits no feelings in me. Not a one. A rich man having a large boat is like a squirrel hiding a nut, or a wolf howling at the moon. It's nature. I suppose if I had to search deep within myself to come up with a reaction, it would be this: It seems like it would be nice to ride on that boat. I would like to eat a platter of charcuterie and fine cheeses during a picturesque sunset. That seems really pleasant. 3 1 Quote
Brandon Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Is the stadium owned by Terry Pegula? Is it to be used exclusively by Terry Pegula and the NFL team that he owns? If the answer to both questions is no, then I don't see the issue. Quote

PoundingDog Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Maybe Josh and Hailee should've asked Terry to use the boat for their rendezvous in Mexico so that no Paparazzi will be near them. Maybe they did now because there is not much news about them any more. Quote
Bruffalo Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Any boat that large should have cannons on it and be manned by a crew of unscrupulous but lovable seafaring scallywags. That's a hill I'll die on. Since Pegula probably has neither, I'm against it. 2 Quote
Jimmy Harris 69 Posted August 22 Posted August 22 (edited) The 2025-2026 NY state budget is $254,000,000B. $850 million is approximately 0.3346% of 254 billion. Hardly a dent for some happy voters with Buffalos on their caps. Meanwhile, NYC budget in 2024 was $106B with tax revenue collections of $28B. Think about that subsidy. If the answer to both questions is no, then I don't see the issue. I like your point, but it also shines a light on the problem of putting it in OP and leaving it open-air. By doing those 2 things, they've basically relegated it to Pegula/Bills-use only. Had they put it downtown, and made it a dome, there is a whole list of events it could have hosted to generate even more revenue. Heck, the state is about to spend $150M-$200M on a new stadium for UB. Could have just had the Bulls play in the new dome downtown and saved that money, which is practically 25% of the stadium budget. Not to mention things like xgames, flag football tournaments, conventions, etc, etc. Even with the extra money it would have cost to put a dome downtown, it could have been recouped pretty quickly. Kirby Jackson Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Some really weird/sad/jealous responses on here. Newsflash, almost all new stadiums are public/private partnerships. Newsflash, almost all pro sports owners have yachts and other lavish toys. They’re billionaires!! That’s reality. Don’t hate the player. Hate the game. 2 Quote

You do realize he's going to end up paying 1.2b of the stadium as he covers all overages. This whole argument is ridiculous. Tell that to my tenants who are scraping by and could use a slice of that $600m. Look, I would have voted for the stadium monies, too. I get why Terry asked, and I get why the state paid. It’s still not a good look to get $600m in tax monies and then build a $100m boat. We agree to disagree. Quote

It would have been stowed away in a slush fund that would only help a few people, the stadium benefits millions 1 Quote
Don Otreply Posted August 22 Posted August 22 He is a Billionaire, wtf else does anyone expect? lol, any of us would very likely do the same if we were in his shoes, he didn’t become a multi billionaire because he is a choir boy, as Billionaires go he isn’t an isn’t a Jurah Jones, and that’s a good thing. GO BILLS!!! 1 Quote
Neo Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Good for him. He built it, he owns it. We had every opportunity not to participate as tax payers. We chose to participate. I hear he has nice cars, too. 1 Quote
rusty shackleford Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Terry and Kim were billionaires before the stadium deal. They are billionaires after. Billionaires have cool stuff. ...in other news, water is wet, Coleman is slow, and Samuel is hurt again. 1 Quote
Bob in STL Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Can we get some more details here? Terry is paying $1.25B (60%) of the estimated cost of $2.1B Erie county pays $250M or 12%. NYS pays $600M or 28% Sure, Terry could have paid a bigger portion but 60% is not nothing and what else is in the deal? Who pays for the cost overruns in construction and readiness? Who pays for maintenance? Will the stadium be used for other events? Who gets revenues back (Terry, State, County) and how much do they get when the stadium is used? 1 Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted August 22 Posted August 22 I mean he's ensured the Bills to stay in Buffalo for a very long time and I thank him for it. This guy also built his success. Let him enjoy his life. 5 Quote
Gregg Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Pretty soon the Sabres are going to need a new arena. NY taxpayers will be paying for that as well. Quote

We agree to disagree. Why? He has billions of dollars. He shouldn’t get a yacht that he wants because people don’t like the optics of it? Should that factor into his decision making process? “You know, I really want this new boat. I can certainly afford it. I probably shouldn’t though because people that can’t afford it might not like the way it looks. You know what, that’s a good reason to pass on purchasing this yacht.” 1 1 Quote
