A billionaire bought a yacht the way billionaires buy yachts, and he paid for a new stadium for his team in the same way. You can be upset at the system that has billionaires paying for stadiums with taxpayer money, but it's a little silly to be upset that the owner for your team wasn't dumb enough to be the only one not doing it. Mate, thank you so much for letting me know I was mad and upset at Terry. I didn't think I was, but I guess I was mistaken? 🙄 Edited August 22 by Bad Things Quote

About half the nhl teams lose money It looks like the Sabres made $13M last year ($169M rev and $156M expense). These are rough numbers but even if it were negative $13M, it would be a great year. Pegula bought the Sabres for $165M 14 years ago. They are currently valued at $1.15B. The value of the franchise has grown by about $71M per year since he got them. You aren’t losing money owning sports teams. You might not be operationally profitable every year but the increase in franchise valuation DWARFS whatever happens each year. 1 Quote

Here are a few examples: “Adding to the frustration is the $560 million in cost overruns “. They fail to mention that all cost overruns are on Pegula, not the tax payers. The yacht was custom built and delivered in 2021. He most likely ordered this at least 5 years ago. That was before the new stadium was being built. They also are apparently uninformed on the health situation with Kim Pegula as her name is tossed around with Terry’s as someone we should all be angry with. I know billionaires don’t need defending very often , but I am extremely grateful for all the Pegulas have done for our Buffalo Bills! Also, in case you’ve forgotten, our other 2 bidders were Donald Trump and Toronto Bon Jovi. 1 1 1 Quote

It was the Erie Canal, aka at the time "Clinton's Ditch". New York State footed the entire bill. The canal opened up the entire state west of the Mohawk Valley. What had been economic backwaters became boom towns as the canal terminus moved west between 1817 and 1825 when it reached Buffalo. In 1825, Buffalo had a population of about 2500 souls. By 1832, the population jumped to 25,000. It was one of the richest cities in the US during the first half of the twentieth century. Why do you assume that the Bills won't find a successor to Josh Allen? As long as the team owner is committed to winning football games rather maximizing profits, it's likely the team will find some success on the field. Most NFL teams do. FTR, most of "the general public" has been priced out of buying season tickets in most NFL stadiums for a couple of decades at least, and that includes the Bills. not even remotely the same thing. 1 Quote

It's one thing if he just walked into the cafeteria at one Bills drive and said hey we're not making me enough money and I can't go to the French Riviera! It's another thing in a pure business meeting setting No matter how much class or not you think is involved His business is there to fund his lifestyle intrinsically and that is a part of anybody's business.. to keep up their lifestyle.. whether it's done in poor taste or not, that's why they're in business partially It wouldn't be the first or the last time a billionaire or millionaire has put up a slideshow with something like that at a business meeting If he called out cafeteria workers at one Bills drive that they are the reason he can't fund his lifestyle that would be terribly sad... I don't think it was cafeteria workers at that meeting That's really what we're talking about here. Taste, or poor taste, depending on one's perspective. That's it. Have the yacht, don't have the yacht, whatever. I think it's in poor taste to take $850m in taxpayer subsidy to fund a business and to then turn around and buy a $100m yacht. Others feel differently, and they're entitled to that opinion for many valid reasons. That about sums the whole thing up. 2 hours ago, Warcodered said: I mean that's fair. All of this is well said. I'm not mad at the guy. I appreciate that he invested the money here and kept the team here. But I'm mindful of the fact that it's an immensely profitable business, and I personally would not have taken gobs of taxpayer money and then bought a yacht. It's not how I work. The question is taste, and look, and it's not for me. And some others. But there are more who don't really care about the optics or who don't see it the same way. Whatevs. Quote

NYS spends more per student than any other state, so don't say schools. 1 2 Quote
