Their two tackles are locked in on long term deals. I think the next thing on Beanes to do list is McGovern and now can utilize the franchise tag on him if necessary.  I think they let David Edwards walk after the season but have Alec Anderson ready to go on a cheap deal for either Exwards or McGovern and Grable can either be the primary swing tackle with the capability of him moving inside or pushing Dawkins inside as he ages.  That doesn’t include Lundt who while early, looked impressive in his first action and Sedrick Van Pran who has been a bit of an afterthought because he’s been injured this preseason.  As long as Kromer is here developing these mid to late round guys I don’t have a lot of worry about the OL especially with Allen behind Center What about Torrence? Quote

We pay Samuel $9M to be WR4 role player. We just handed Hoecht $7M/yr to sit out suspended. Ed Oliver is good and all but set to make $25M next year.  There's a lot of other money to worry about than $12M for what Cook brings to the table.  To the flip side:  We have our Franchise QB locked up We have our OTs locked up We do not have any major WRs who will command $30M or even $20M We just got all the other major extensions done. The cap is skyrocketing every season with streaming money (a huge $25M jump that last couple of years) We have other guys we can restructure  To @Ya Digg?'s point, there is no need to worry about this $12M contract. I have to think Knox is gone next season. Hawes is his replacement Samuel too. This is his last season.  Ed Oliver must be restructured. You dont spend all your draft picks on the D-Line and do nothing with Oliver's contract Edited August 13 by JakeFrommStateFarm 1 Quote

Cheektowaga Chad Posted August 13 Posted August 13 This was said about saquon Barkley last season but can be said here now as well  Would you rather pay 13 million to Gabe Davis or James Cook  A 12 million dollar pro bowl running back that performs and puts up stats is the least of the bills future cap worries 2 1 Quote

Cook is the only skill player we have that can score from anywhere on the field. I didn't want to let that ability get away. I feel the same way  Cook is the other playmaker on offense besides Josh. Can't be complimentary if you.dont have the horses. We have the horses Quote

Most likely a restructure, or a whole different deal. Bringing him down closer to (or even under) $10M/yr.  Hawes is a good blocker, but that's it and a completely different type of TE. More Lee Smith than Knox replacement.  Totally agreed on Samuel and Oliver. 1 Quote

His salary this year has to be factored into the equation. It's also the 3rd highest guaranteed money for a RB in the last 5 years.  I think the contract is paying him what he's worth given the market. A team friendly deal with be under that, but that's just my opinion. To be clear, I'm happy about the signing. Edited August 13 by Bruffalo Quote
SCBills Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Dalvin co-signing on Brandt talking about how Allen hasn’t had remotely close to the help Peyton Manning has had and that it’s not apples to apples when comparing the two given the Brady/Manning, Allen/Mahomes discussion.  For that reason, Brandt says Bills had to extend Cook because he’s the one guy who’s stepped up for him when it matters.   10 5 2 Quote

Needs to improve against some of those twitchy 3 Techs a bit, and sometimes has a hard time picking up the right blitzer.  But loving his trajectory and I think he's about to have a big year. (I hope lol)  It's speed rush against the inside shoulder. That is where I think he still has a bit of a weakness. He did improve a tad the second half of the year last year... so if he can stay on the ascendency then he will earn his payday.  1 Quote
Ga boy Posted August 13 Posted August 13 2 hours ago, MasterStrategist said: This deal came in exactly as expected - $12m per.  It was all about the guaranteed money, as I said earlier this offseason.  Great deal for both sides, Cook is still an ascending player.   Just wait until Gibbs and Bijan get their bag next year, this will look like a steal for us. I am Nostradamus as I was saying this in May, 12-13.5 with 30 guaranteed.  He’s worth every nickel.  If you thought he was good last year, get your popcorn ready over the next 4.  Our chances for a Lombardi have moved from hopeful to confident.  Go Bills! 🦬 3 1 Quote

There’ll be plenty of $$$ I realize it’s next offseason but I wished I shared your optimism n the plenty of money front. Even so, there’s no room to do McGovern now. He will have to play out this year and then they hope they can get a deal done before free agency, assuming they want to. If that’s the cost of securing Cook I am ok with that. Quote
dollars 2 donuts Posted August 13 Posted August 13 55 minutes ago, warrior9 said: Same, amazing to me how many people are super happy with the deal. You lose one of your top OL, his production goes down. I've always been against paying RBs as the line dictates a lot of their performance. Examples of this run rampant.  Swifts numbers before during and after the Eagles. Zeke's numbers after 2 OL left from Dallas. Murray after he left Dallas. Larry Johnson and others for the Chiefs after their OL retired. Saquon with a good line. He avg 4.5 yards per carry BEFORE contact.  Warrior, believe last year's oline was the best oline Josh has had as a Bill, and it showed. That protection and that blocking was the tide, besides Josh, that raises all ships.   We had a lot of turnovers on defense, but had a Dickens of a time getting off the field on third downs.  Josh's O, with that line, made up for a lot.   39 minutes ago, Ya Digg? said: Doesn't the longer deal for the same APY actually make it more likely to keep those guys? Your example is $8 mil guaranteed per year, his actual deal is $7.5 mil per year  My understanding was the larger, albeit not much larger, guaranteed money has the greater effect on other contracts than the APY.  However, YD, I am a novice at best so that really isn't in my wheelhouse of understanding.   1 Quote
