When I watch Josh given his athleticism and his arm strength I have often thought who does he remind me of or who's game compares to the way Josh plays more than others, and I always come back to one for me IMHO that he seems to be a lot like but was wondering what you all might think .

My QB of choice that I feel Josh's game most resembles when this player was in his prime is Arron Rogers . When Rogers was in his prime he was very mobile and could bust off a run at any given time if you left a opening in the D and as we know he could definitely make you pay on any pass short or long .

The only thing that Rogers may have over Josh but I think Josh is and will continue to get much better at is his accuracy . I have heard those that know a lot more about the game of football & QB's than I do that feel Rogers is one of the most accurate QB's they have ever seen but as I said I think Josh is getting better at that every year .

So am I that far off base, & if so who do you think Josh's game resembles the most or do you think Josh stands alone from all others that came before him ???

John Elway has always been my closest comparison.

Strong armed. Mobile. Sometimes a bit unorthodox.

This is, in every way, the correct take. The other thing is that they both have a never quit mentality. It can cause them issues, as they both saw early in their career, but it endears them to teammates, and everyone loves playing with a guy who would run through a brick wall for you.

Yup. Tough, gritty, never say die.

Still SHOCKS me that Elway passed on him and took a LB in the draft. Biggest mistake of Elways career IMO.

Exactly.  Josh emulates his athleticism, toughness and fortitude.  He lost three SB’s before he finally won 2 at the end of his career.  I will never, ever forget that helicopter twirl in the SB.  That was in years 15 and 16.  He never gave up and 40+ come from behind wins or ties.

Josh has that spirit in him.  He’s by far my favorite all time Buffalo Bill.   Even more than my handle Machine Gun Kelly.

20 years from now, all of us to tell story after story about the Great Josh Allen, amd he one day will make the HOF.  Yeah, he needs some rings, but if Elway never gave up after losing three, not one, not two, but three SBs.

I know it’s early, but I’ll have tears in my eyes when he receives his gold jacket.  Let’s hope it’s not for 17-20 years and enjoys a long and fruitful career.

BTW- if you’re looking for a thing to watch, I’m watching “Greater”.  It’s so inspirational and on Netflix.

John Elway is the closest and truest comparison.

I also see Ben Roethlisberger, just more mobile and faster.

Josh's arm is better than 97% of the QB's in the history of the NFL. Still, Ben Ro had a strong arm, was hard to bring down, and he could thread the needle at times. That throw/catch between him and Santonio Holmes is one of the greatest plays in SB history, and it was on a rope.

Cam Newton’s MVP season is the closest thing I’ve seen to Josh.

Cam to me was run 1st always, then pass which opened up his throws.

Josh for the most part was pass 1st run if he needs to.

Thankfully OC is not calling so many RPO's like they used to, which wasn't JA's choice but followed orders.

The knock on Josh was accuracy. I never thought he could correct that, let alone at a pro level. But, he did!

Elway is the closest, but Josh has established a high bar for greatness going forward all time.

Elway’s size and skill with Favre’s mentality.

But he’s shifting away from the latter to more Tom Brady.

I agree with Elway and Favre, but Josh will never play like Brady. He’s not even close to playing like Burrow and Burrow is the most like Brady in the modern game. Brady was all on schedule. Josh is on schedule more now than he ever was, but considerably less than most NFL QB’s.

There’s no such thing as a run first QB. And also Josh’s rushing ability absolutely helps open up the passing game the same way it did for Cam.

Someone asks this question once or twice a year, and once or twice a year I feel compelled to bring up two largely forgotten proto-Allens. This first one peaked before my time, the second one right when I started loving the NFL.

Neither one won a Super Bowl. Let's hope Josh breaks that mold.

It’s Elway.   There is no other answer.  Other answers in the same certainty category include Ingrid Bergman, chocolate and peanut butter, The Talking Heads, The Birth of Venus, Bach’s Cello Suite #1 in G Major, Prélude and  Michael Jordan.

A few Elway’s, I see it.
A few Favre’s, definitely.
Cam Newton? Can’t disagree about the same willingness to run through or over a defender like Cam did.

But honestly, @MJS said it best…

There is no comparison.

Never seen a QB like The Big Blue Winter Soldier
