You can throw in players that were cut as well....

The only player that comes to mind is Harrison Phillips with the Vikings.

The Bills really have done a great job of retaining the right players, and letting the right ones walk.

Optimist is that the Bills don’t let good players out of the building.

pessimist is the Bills don’t have enough good players to let out of the building.

who are the last couple players to get a big FA contract out of Buffalo? Gabe Davis? Tremaine Edmunds 3 FAs ago? Was there any before that?

I think the truth is somewhat in the middle. The Bills generally do very well paying the right guys, but are definitely not a team that has so many good players they just can’t pay them all.

Mitchell Trubisky made an impact in Pittsburgh. Definitely not a positive impact, but he certainly altered the trajectory of that franchise.

I completely get the spirit here... you could go with Edmunds, Phillips, Hughes, Singletary, Teller etc... sure they made impacts on their teams if they are starters and being productive etc... but the bottom line to me the only one that I think got away that we mismanaged was Teller... the rest I go with the Juice wasnt worth the squeeze, sure Edmunds is productive... is  he 15mm productive... not to me... Hughes was productive to a point, was he 10mm productive, not to me... his performance was already falling off... Singletary, sure he started and did a bit but were we gonna pay him when we had Cook... so to your point, the folks we let go we made the triage cap move... you have to identify those players that are going to command a percentage of your cap that doesnt measure with thier impact and contribution to your team... with significant consideration to their replacement and their potential production.... (James Cook is in this debate with McBeane currently) ... so to me your thought  is very much on point.

Yea Teller was the one big mistake they have made with one of their own guys. He was a victim of their lack of a clear plan on the OL before coach Kro returned. I think he was drafted for Juan Castillo's scheme, they didn't think he fitted Bobby Johnson's and he got lost in the shuffle but the truth is Beane was all over the map before Kromer on the type of linemen he was bringing in. He was trying to cobble together five guys with totally different styles built to play in totally different schemes. They have been sooooo much better and more consistent in their approach to OL talent since Kromer. Shows what a difference a quality position coach with a clear sense of what his scheme requires can make.

Bringing back Beach Chairs was one of the best coaching decisions of McD’s career.

My thoughts exactly. You could say we have done a good job signing a lot of these guys. You could also say several former starters have basically done nothing when they left here. Which isn't a great reflection either.

Zack Moss played pretty well in Indianapolis. Singletary played well in Houston.

A case can be made for Singletary, but I am not sure if he really made an "impact" on the Texans due to the fact that he is now on his third team.

Zack Moss had some good games for the Colts, but he wad traded for Nyhiem  Hines.....not a FA or a cut....just as others have mentioned Wyatt Teller, who was a trade as well.

Jerry Hughes, I'd argue. They expected him to fall off a cliff. He didn't.

Tyrel Dodson, maybe. His first year away was really good.

Quinton Jefferson, probably.

Can't think of anyone else, or anyone who hasn't been mentioned.

Yes he did. His last 3 years in Buffalo he had 11 sacks total. Then 9 randomly for a bad houston team followed by 3 sacks the next year and none last year. Hughes was done when they let him go

Well the question is made an impact - which is not a super high bar...

Robert Woods had a decent career

Goodwin had a short good stint in SF

Gilmore - multiple pro bowls

Hughes - 9 sack season after leaving

Darby - decent career

Teller - all pro

Philips - a number of solid years

Z Jones - better after leaving

L Thomas - became a solid TE

Ray-Ray - created a niche for himself

Singletary - solid RB

Moss - Decent RB

Morse - started all 17 games

Feliciano - full time starter season after leaving

Spain - full time start season after leaving

Hodgins - Couldnt get on field to 7 td's in less than 2 seasons

Edmunds - this will always be a debate

Punt god - early but KC may have a long term punter

That's a player that I never understood why he was so popular. I wanted to move on from him a couple of seasons before we finally did.

2 years, 6 mil.  I wouldn't consider that to be a big loss.  A back-up role where he can support multiple positions makes sense for him though.

 - fine he was a trade but essentially a FA as it stands.

Beane still references this as one of his bigger misses.

Traded him for a 5th and 6th rounder, though. So at least we got something.

They tried. They brought in guys like Addison and Murphy to replace him and none of them were as good as Jerry.

Teams generally don’t move on from their best pass rusher without having a plan to replace them.

Robert Woods had a decent career - Yeah, I would have liked to have seen him stay with us

Goodwin had a short good stint in SF - We never seem to know how to utilize these types of players

Gilmore - multiple pro bowls - Didn't want to be here.  He can kick rocks

Hughes - 9 sack season after leaving - Had one good year after he left us.  Was sad to see him go, but it kind of made sense at the time

Darby - decent career - Never understood why this guy wasn't more valued on teams.  He was better than his journeyman career would suggest

Teller - all pro - Regime change and Beane admits he messed this one up, but just didn't have the time to properly evaluate amongst taking over the team.

Philips - a number of solid years - This was surprising to me, but I think he took the money.  I was surprised we didn't match.

Z Jones - better after leaving - I would say he ticked up, but his inconsistency finally shined through.  Reminds me of Gabe Davis in a way (production wise)

L Thomas - became a solid TE - Don't even remember him 🙂

Ray-Ray - created a niche for himself - Again, we don't utilize these guys properly

Singletary - solid RB - We don't pay RB's apparently

Moss - Decent RB - Odd man out.  Could be overall done

Morse - started all 17 games - Numbers game and didn't make sense to give him long term deal at his age.  He didn't live up to his new contract

Feliciano - full time starter season after leaving - Never understood this one.  I know he didn't have a great final season here, but I think we overall were trying to change our offensive line scheme.

Spain - full time start season after leaving - Like Feliciano, don't think he fit the scheme change.

Hodgins - Couldnt get on field to 7 td's in less than 2 seasons - I think he was given the opportunity to shine on a team that had zero competition and had to scheme to him.  When put on an even playing field with comparable talent, he faded out.  Plus, injuries...

Edmunds - this will always be a debate - Absolutely made the right move.  Even with TB's injuries, he's made more of an impact in less overall games.  I don't think I could handle another "almost" play by Edmunds

Punt god - early but KC may have a long term punter - The Punt God has yet to live up to the name.  He's improved, but nothing that I feel like we are missing.
