Yes, Dolphins drafted Fitzpatrick with 11th pick in 2018 and traded him to Steelers in 2019. It was different head coaches, but same GM, Chris Grier, who made those moves and this one. I’d be surprised if McDonald and Grier survive this season.

I agree on McDaniels surviving this year.

His unorthodox, goofy demeanor can be endearing when you are winning, when you are losing as in last year, it loses its appeal.

I think Grier is "safe" for another year as the NFL doesn't need to fire a minority GM.

Miami has spent the 11th pick overall, Jalen Ramsey, Jonnu Smith and a 7th round pick to acquire Minkah Fitzpatrick, Austin Jackson, Jason Strowbridge, Johnathan Marshall, a 7th round choice and finally...Minkah Fitzpatrick.

That's some solid asset management right there.

With the Steelers QB situation, or lack of, they have to be all in this season.  If they deal Watt it will be for immediate help.

I don’t think that matters. If things go badly, I don’t think Ross will have any choice but to clean house.

Omar Khan is in over his head - this offseason has proved as much.

Being in Pittsburgh, its  crazy to see how mismanaged two of the most prestigious pro franchises have been HORRIBLY managed these past couple years (Steelers and Pens).

Steeler country is in disbelief, I wouldn't be shocked to see a major change of the guard in Pittsburgh next year.

How is that weird? Seems close to equal value when you consider the cap dump.

What was the goal? That’s why it’s weird the Steelers were like, “we will take a CB upgrade and a TE upgrade in exchange for our 2nd best player (who is 27).” It’s weird. If you’re pushing your chips in, you deal draft picks. I don’t really understand it for Miami either. They were like, “we will trade our only outside CB and our only TE for a great safety.” It’s weird

Hmm. I think the Steelers got a lot better. Rodgers isn’t who he was 5 years ago, but he was a genuinely pretty good qb most of the second half of last season, and he is FAR better than what the Steelers have been trotting out since Roethlisberger went into decline. Pickens is good, but he’s no Metcalf, and I’ll take Ramsey any day over Fitzpatrick, who was objectively bad last season at a lower value position. Ramsey was not bad last year and actually picked off Josh (not Josh’s fault, of course, but Ramsey was close enough to the Coleman error to make the play).

I don’t understand this trade other than personality and cap management.

Steelers likely got maybe better in the secondary. Ramsey at this point is debatable better than Slay or Porter. And a step down at Safety.

got a much better move TE with Smith so that helps that offense.

mia got worse. Added a malcontent into the safety room with a lot of young depth. Lost their top CB with zero other real boundary CBs on the roster and lost their TE1 that actually was highly effective for them after years of looking for an effective TE.

Mia got worse here and Steelers treaded water.

historically good FO in terms of talent e v a l in Steelers vs Historically bad FO in talent e v a l Mia.

Mia just made their team worse. Get ready for more force feeding of Tyreek as he demanded this offseason.

Good to see you posting again, been awhile.

I am not sure what Miami is doing except finding a trade partner for a very unhappy Ramsey.

Minkah had a heck of a run . Is he done ? not sure

But he is back home in Fla

This trade is worth following into the season. Getting Smith should be a big + for Steelers. Should be ...

It seems the only reason Grier has survived to this year is so Ross can fire/rehire the GM and HC at the same time.

Mike McDaniel went to Yale you know.

Not sure what you mean. Is he going to run for the presidency after Trump?

Yale has some famous graduates, George W Bush, William J Clinton, Hillary D Rodham ...

Players gotta watch their knees around Fitzpatrick too. Nick Chubb was killing the Steelers in the game Fitzpatrick took his knee out. We’re all still waiting to see if Chubb will be able to even get close to the same player he was.

I can't ever forget that play.

The Bills hopefully are doing their scouting on him since they will be facing him twice a year now.

It looks like Ross has the Fins teeing things up to start a major rebuild next off season.  It's looking like a bad season, a high draft position, and creation of cap room.  Their fans down here are increasingly apoplectic regarding this season.  I expect a Tyreek meltdown as he sees the writing on the wall.  There are some people down here that believe Tua will be shipped out next year in favor of a new guy on a rookie contract.  I'm not sure that anyone would take Tua and his contract but I could be wrong.  In any event, I glad that it's not the Bills dealing with any of this.

The goal is do their best to pretend like they have a championship team while they made the move for Rodgers. Fitzpatrick, while their best secondary player, has fallen off the last couple of years from impact plays, and safety isn't as valuable as corner, and adding Smith adds a potential weapon on offense where the cupboard is a bit bare.

Ramsey and Fitzpatrick could wash out for them depending on what they do at S.

If Tua became available, I think there would be a heavy market for him. He's a player you can win with. He probably can't win it all, but he's better than a lot that's out there.

Yeah, anyone thinking this is a slam dunk for Miami, I have have to disagree with them. Safety is one of the least valuable positions in the NFL. This is just both teams moving on from disgruntled players. Well, those players are probably going to be disgruntled with their new teams in not too long. Miami did not get better with these moves. They just got a little different.

From the few Steelers’ fans I know, this is one move they like. They feel Fitzpatrick is on the decline, which I disagree with to the extent you move on.

They feel Ramsey or Slay transition to a safety role.

What are your thoughts?

Short term this is a win for the Steelers, long term for Dolphins. That Ramsay contract is very overpriced and will become more so each year. To your point, Ramsay has been disgruntled at each of his previous teams why are we expecting different?

Fans always talk about CBs transitions to safety to talk themselves into trades for aging CBs.
