Lafromboise Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I just came across this YouTube short. Didn't think he was regarded like that. Just wanted to share https://youtube.com/shorts/HHygPU_tlUI?si=NBWqtRoB0Oya0uom 2 1 Quote
Augie Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago (edited) Stevie Johnson ran routes that he made up as he went. It seemed like an improv act at times. And yet….. 🤷♂️ EDIT: To be fair he’s talking more about getting off the LOS. Edited 9 hours ago by Augie Quote
The Cincinnati Kid Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago (edited) Stevie was an animal. Loved that dude. Ahead of his time. Him with Josh and no penalties for celebrating would be so fun. Edited 8 hours ago by The Cincinnati Kid 2 5 Quote
Big Turk Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Stevie used to make Darrelle Revis look like trash. He was by far the hardest WR for Revis to cover in the NFL, and some of his worst games of his career were against Johnson. 3 Quote
Another Fan Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago The Gailey years from an offensive standpoint were fun to watch. Stevie really benefited from a coach in Gailey that let him do his thing and Fitz who was smart enough to know his routes so to speak. 2 2 Quote
billsbackto81 Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago (edited) Stevie had that LOS Allen Iverson crossover in the NFL. His slippery shakes and head fakes were maddening on CBs. 3 straight 1K seasons with Fitzpatrick should tell you everything you need to know. I like Fitz, but c'mon. Imagine if he had Josh? Dafan Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Stevies routes consisted of "be at x in x amount of seconds". 3 1 1 Quote

Yes he's talking about his release which was super unorthodox I said a long time ago when he played that it was like a basketballer Who was just crossing you up and going to open space Still a very high compliment 4 minutes ago, billsbackto81 said: Stevie had that LOS Allen Iversion crossover in the NFL. FireChans Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Honestly, Coleman could learn a lot from Stevie. One of the most unique release packages in the game 1 Quote
HurlyBurly51 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Yep, he was pretty impressive in that regard Quote

Stevie said he used his basketball cross over (AI style as you said) to bust press coverage. He routinely put Revis Island on ice skates Quote

NewEra Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Seems like the perfect guy to work with Keon on the side. The teacher being a guy who made his living with basketball moves to get open teaching the d1 basketball player. 2 Quote

Especially how big a Bills fan he is now. While I agree with you at the same time though he was nicknamed Picks-Patrick for a reason. I'll never forget the play McKelvin outsmarted him and picked him off. Quote

NoName Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I've always felt that Stevie and Diggs had some similarities to their route running. Quote

WHY SO SERIOUS MR. REVIS ?? Edited 4 hours ago by T master Quote

Seemed he was smart enough to know he had to throw it still and see what happened at that point. Even if his arm made it less likely to connect than Josh - still better than running out of bounds short of the sticks, Quote

Even if his arm made it less likely to connect than Josh - still better than running out of bounds short of the sticks, You basically hit the nail on the head He was a good quarterback who typically needed a lead at the end of the game If you got the ball back down six with a minute and a half left that's when some of his limitations would come through.. he had some game-winning drives but the majority of times the limitations would show up in that last minute and a half in crunch time situation when the speed is even faster Quote

Even if his arm made it less likely to connect than Josh - still better than running out of bounds short of the sticks, I seem to remember a lot of those picks being thrown when there were still downs to spare, which was the most maddening part. It would have been different if it was last seconds, or 3rd or 4th and long, but I felt like it was always 2 minutes left, timeouts in hand, 2 and 7 and he'd take a completely unnecessary risk and throw the game away.
