Same! Large italian family and my papa owned one of the first liquor stores in a suburb of Buffalo. Wine was an every day thing.

But yeah, open bar is a relatively new thing. It started becoming popular in the late 80's and early 90's. Before that, the vast majority of weddings were cash bar

Got married in the early 90’s. Bride’s parents had $ but refused to spring for an open bar. My mother said she wasn’t having her family travel and go to a reception that didn’t have an open bar so she sprang for it.

The reception was at a place called the Old Port Harbor. My filthy animal friends littered the canal with drink glasses and beer bottles. The in-law’s were not amused.

Oh well. Fun was had by all on my side. First sign that marriage was doomed.

Diggs, interesting.

They have said they are like brothers, and Josh says he loves Stefon.

Doubt it.

But we shall see..

I was being sarcastic.

If you do meet him will you tell him that I love him?

Absolutely.

My wife asked me “How will

you hide your b*ner if we meet Josh?”

And I said “Who said anything about hiding it?”

Maybe im wrong. Or maybe its regional? Im honestly not sure.

My understanding was that open bar is a (relatively) new phenomenon. Most people I knew back in the day could not afford open bar, and also it was frowned upon because religion had a much stronger grip on society.

I looked it up and as of last year, only 62% of weddings had an open bar.

Maybe it's changed twice?  Back in the 70's open bar was the norm?  Then late 80s hit, DWI laws got tough, religion as you said frowned on it so they went away, but now more common again??

Ironically, the last wedding I attended was my daughter's. And it was at New Era Field. We rented out an area and did it there. The package included an hour of time on field to screw around and do wedding photos.

I'll always remember throwing a TD pass to my son on that field. Good times.

Yup, just like ol' Ted Nugent said, 'when in doubt..."...

Always the best policy.
