Keon Coleman success by route - Not pretty

You think Beane added defensive backs focusing on speed because he drafted a WR last year more known for his size and high end ball skills than his route separation due to lack of speed?  Including Bishop who was drafted 30 some odd picks later in the same draft?  This is going to be a long couple of months.

Yea I doubt that. But at least we didn’t get a video this year of Beane getting excited after a WR ran a slow 40 like we got for Keon and Gabe. I’ll call that progress.

Why are you comparing a a 6 foot tall 180 pound slot receiver with a 6'3 215 pound outside receiver?

 

Its great a lot of you wanted Ladd but they weren't moving Shakir.   Keon does need to get better but to compare him to a totally different type of player probably isn't a fair comment on his plah.

Ladd is a slot receiver.   If they drafted him,  then he and Shakir have to share snaps and Shakir had a hard enough time getting his snaps in an offense where they want big boundary WR out blocking.

 

Whether Coleman makes it or not,  McConkey's skillset would have been redundant so they'd still be seeking boundary help.    I do think Coleman would have had himself a much better season catching the dink and dunk stuff from the slot like McConkey got.    The average depth of target disparity was enormous(9.9 to 15.2).

 

It's reminiscent of the tantrums people threw over passing on Creed Humphrey.    They owed Mitch Morse a lot of money,  he was solid,  he was a captain and since centers in the NFL spend a ton of their pass blocking snaps blocking air or just being a help guy.........what you don't want is to pay the top of the market for a non premium position.   That's what the Chiefs are doing now.   Give me Morse and McGovern over that stretch and I'm good.

 

Slot WR is a non-premium position.

I banged the table leading up to last years draft on that fact.  WTH, didn't beane draft a faster Diggs and a guy with a great attitude as well?

Coleman will have this year to show improvement.  If he doesn't, I expect Beane will be looking to draft a WR early in next year's draft, given the cost of top WRs, in free agency (assuming any even would be available).

Ladd is a slot receiver.   Shakir is the same height as and faster than Diggs too(if just using the 40 yard testing).    We heard a lot of bullsh!t about how Shakir could play outside and Diggs comps from irrational fans.   But Diggs had longer arms and 10" hands that allowed him do more on the boundary in his prime.    Diggs aged out of the boundary a couple seasons ago but the Bills didn't have anyone else to put out there.

I get it and you're right. I'm also seeing stats stacked for both running the same routs. I'm good with who we got. I have hope for him to take a two. We'll see tho.

I argued well before the draft, as a UGA fan, that McConkey is not just a slot receiver, and had lined up on the outside a lot for the Dawgs. Don't give a damn that folks keep saying he's a slot. For certain, he's an NFL receiver, and maybe Coleman becomes one, too, but I don' think there's a chance Ladd is going to wash out, and there is a chance Coleman does. Obviously, I hope he makes a leap,and becomes great.

I don’t think Keon will ever be elite (could be wrong on that) but a guy of his height and hands/catching ability should be with speed and i’m not sure that part of his game will ever improve.  But I think he could be a consistent 1000 yard receiver…he’ll just never set the world on fire with 2000

He added more speed on both sides of the ball because the team desperately needed speed on both sides of the ball; especially after he let Worthy go to KC.

He was a raw prospect drafted because of his ceiling. I don't think route success in his rookie season when he was injured for a good chunk of it will really tell us if he'll work out long term. We just have to cross our fingers and hope he hits that ceiling. 

 

This graphic does confirm something I saw, that Coleman is awesome catching a quick slant out of the slot. It's almost undefendable if they get the right look presnap.
