I’ll never understand teams that finally have good receivers and then trade them away

Because Pickens, who has top talent, is also top 5 crazy person in the league. If Tomlin gives up on you, that says a lot.

that said, this could be the best thing for his career. Gets to be a number 2 option with a good passing qb. If only they didn’t have the most mid head coach ever (completely forgot who it was), this would be a great move for the Cowboys depending on the pick.

You mean the QB duo Of Justin Fields and Russell Wilson doesn’t do it for ya?

According to Jets fans, Fields is finally going to break out this year!

Tbf, DJ Moore had a really good year with Fields and Pickens has some good moments with Wilson.

but Dak should be a big upgrade over them.

Most likely true.

May be Pitt doesn’t want him.

Interesting thought. You’re probably right. I can’t imagine that this would be something Rodgers wanted.

The trade is an interesting one. Pickens has all kinds of ability but is an idiot. He’s an explosive playmaker that has played with 🗑️ QBs and voiced his frustration. We will see how it works in Dallas. Dak is much better than what Pickens has played with but so is Lamb. They’re either going to have an incredible passing game or it’s going to go up in flames. 🤣🤣

My thoughts on Pitt as a whole have been that they get one more bite at the apple before they need to blow the roster up.

They can keep Tomlin and Co.

The roster is good enough to plug and play an established QB, but if they can't make it work they need to do whatever it takes to go out and get one.

If I am Pitt and I don't get Rodgers the entire roster is up for grabs. Load up on capital to go up and get your QB.

One of the few trades I dislike for both sides. Pittsburgh's offseason makes no sense. They currently don't have a QB and didn't make a serious attempt to draft one. If they want to compete they need as much offensive talent as possible. If they don't want to compete, why did they also trade for Metcalf? Offseasons like this are why they get stuck in wildcard purgatory.

For Dallas they still haven't paid their best player in Micah Parsons and now they're trading for a WR in the last season of his rookie deal? And adding another diva to the team in their head coach's first year when he should be establishing his culture? I mean who is the last WR to leave Mike Tomlin and work out elsewhere? And I don't think Pickens really gives their offense the skill set it needs which is explosion and YAC ability.

They are working on stacking picks. This article is before the 3rd for Pickens: https://steelerswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/steelers/2025/05/02/2026-nfl-draft-steelers-updated-pick-projections-for-next-year/83408057007/. They can use those 3rds and 4ths to move up the board. Maybe they can get 2 2nds and still have a 3rd. Their own first, which could be early, 2 2nds and a 3rd may be enough for them to move up and secure their QB in a much better QB class.

I suspect that they get a 2 and a little more for Watt. My buddy is there and thinks they should get whatever they can for Watt. He thinks he’s about to fall off a cliff.

My quick two cents is that Rodgers is hanging it up and/or not coming to Pitt and they have word.

No way they trade Pickens if they get one more bite at the apple with Rodgers/Pickens

Pickens wore out his welcome LY, with all his crazy and antics.

This trade has been in the works for a while, hence the DK trade.  Rodgers or not, Pickens was 1 foot out the door.

Steelers would be better off tanking and finding a legit young QB.

In the end I think Pitt was done with Pickens routine... maybe much like we were done with Diggs routine...  and felt that this was addition by subtraction... at least Diggs gives you a few years on a new team before he becomes malcontent...  with Pickens I am just not sure how he will react... he could really get it together and act like a pro or he could go to the lights of Dallas and get worse... I hope for him he figures out a way to take this and improve... but my gut tells me he is happy about getting traded... He gets Dallas and Zak etc... and he might just go off the rails again there...  I suspect he continues his act... time will tell...  I also think there may be some Rodgers effect here... I am not sure what it means... like they are gonna get Rodgers and Rodgers doesnt want Pickens, Or they have decided to go with what they have and not get Rodgers and just get draft capital for the future and rid themselves of a headache...

This is exactly where I am at.

Even if he doesn't fall off a cliff, getting a 2nd is worth it. The NFL is different now. You need the QB and then a good GM to get all the role players in place once he gets paid.

I suspect if there is a Rodgers effect in this trade that it is as you described... but I am not discounting the opposite that Rodgers is going to sign there and doesnt like Pickens... although I think your initial thought is the most likely if this is in anyway about Rodgers...

Perfect player for Dallas. An overrated malcontent with a big name who will ultimately just prove to be a distraction.

Dallas in recent years has kind of been a rather boring team acquisitions wise. Their drafting has been good (I would say a top 10 drafting team in the league not top 5 but still good) and their free agency and trade acquisitions have been prudent to the point where fans don't think they spend enough money. Their issues are Dak is a good QB paid like an elite QB and Jerry Jones insistence on running the team prevents any coach from establishing a culture and creates a huge distraction.

I’d take our WR room over this.

Basically DK (whose very good) and a bunch of other guys. The depth even with Pickens there was rough now you remove your WR2 and it's even more depleted.

Trade details

Steelers Receive a 3rd in 2026 and 5th in 2027

Steelers Receive Pickens and 6th in 2027

This is a great trade. Pitt gets to tell Pickens they traded him like he wanted, but the plot twist is they get to keep him.
