Elijah Moore Visiting the Bills today (Update: Signed!)

This is depth. We have some 2's, solid Slots, and depth guys. Josh will still be Josh. Another 40+ combined TD season. Hopefully, Moore can catch a few of those.

Watched a few "every target" videos from his time with Cleveland. Here's a game reel that gives you a good look at his pros and cons:

 

 

I like that he is getting some decent separation. He has good vertical speed. Not sure he can consistently get through physical press coverage but he can run past defenders. The one deep catch in this reel it didn't look to me like he actually stayed inbounds even though they called it a catch, but you can see the speed and the ball tracking on that play.

 

Biggest concern that jumps out is he plays small. He has no catch radius at all. Flacco sucks, that much is obvious, but I thought a couple of the incompletions here would have been caught by a more physically gifted WR. Also he isn't elusive with the ball in his hands.

 

So kind of a low margin for error WR and I think he'll have trouble breaking into the lineup over Shakir and Samuel. But there is a baseline NFL skill set there at least.

I agree - very different players but playing a very similar role, minus the special teams.  Had Coleman continued to improve after his injury, Hollins role on the field would have been continually reduced.  He took on more than his share because Coleman hit a wall.   He is a more talented player than Hollins.  He will be expected to start living up to his draft position this year.  Who will pick up Hollins ST role is a more apt question.  It’s a big challenge for the young man but it is now or never.

That, to me, is a very mid WR corps.  And by mid, I mean middle of the pack in the NFL - which is very good w/ me if we're building a true top-tier defense.

 

Nowhere near the worst in the league, as has been discussed here.

Good signing. Now we have five WRs with vet experience / pedigree. The ridiculous part of Beane's rant was always about the depth. If two of our top four had gotten hurt at the same time, we would've been F'd. At least now we have someone proven to step in.

Our most receptions last year was Shakir with 76. Next highest was Kincaid at 44... There's no way Moore is getting more than 80. First he has to make the team.

Low risk high reward. We should have a better WR room purely on development and return from injury but this sounds like a Hollins level replacment

Well it’s more than just that I get your what you’re saying though. They’re not going to not play Coleman as he’s a high draft pick and Samuel is going to be on the roster because his contract will dictate that. They paid Palmer solid # 3 money so Shavers opportunity is Moore and maybeeee  Samuel

The amount of guaranteed money will determine how likely he is to make the roster. IMO he doesn’t sign with Buffalo without having a reasonable assurance.  I think he takes a lot of snaps on the outside, especially considering that I don’t think will see a different version of Keon Coleman than we saw last season

He probably signed him to shut everyone up, as even USA Today in their power rankings stated that the Bills should have drafted a WR!

 

Most Bills fans have been bleating endlessly about how the weakest part of the team is the WR corps.

 

The thing is that Tom Brady and the Patriots spent a decade without that superstar #1 WR. The Earnhardt-Perkins scheme that the Patriots used to run and Buffalo utilize that strong run game and move the chains passing game until they reach the end zone, and then punch it in...same at the SB winning Patriots.

 

How did the Bengals fare last season with their two elite WRs?  The 49ers? The Dolphins with super speedster Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle with paying their QB, receivers so much that the rest of the team is lacking.

 

The very last thing this team needs is a diva WR like Diggs who wants all the passes his way and still complains. Been there, done that!

Maybe I am missing something but Shakir, Coleman and Samuel were all on the team last year.

Hollins is gone and has ostensibly been replaced by Palmer. Amari Cooper is gone and now potentially replaced by Moore.

 

So not sure why Clay seems to think there is not enough room for all of them.

Kind of amazing how different this team is than drought teams.
 

Back then, we might have one great receiver, two passable guys, and barely 2-3 more to round it out. If someone got injured, we would be in a tough spot. 
 

Now, we will have to cut probably 3 guys who can probably start or get meaningful snaps for other teams.

If you can't beat those guys you don't deserve a roster spot to be honest.
