Any owner would and should take pause before agreeing to pay maybe 20 million more, per year, for one guy on one of the worst Defenses in the league. Throw out the publicly owned Packers, and the Bengals are the only NFL team whose owner is not a billionaire with a net worth of $925Mil. When they give Burrow or Higgins’s a big contract, all that guaranteed money, hundreds of millions of dollars, has to be placed in escrow. They have a cheap mindset, but there is also the practical/financial side of things….they have limitations other teams do not. https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-richest-owners-net-worth-ranked/ . BarleyNY Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Bills do not have the space for Hendrickson, at least they don’t unless they move some real salary/cash spend off their books. The Bengals probably won’t trade him to anyone, but there’s almost zero chance it would be to the Bills if they did. They’re the Bengals. They’re going to make him play out his deal or retire. Mike Brown is about making money, not winning. That’s what everything he does is about. He has to spend up to the cap floor and do enough to keep the fans engaged, but he’s not going to do much more than that. Quote

They probably assured him that after he signed a one year extension in 2023 that they would "take care" of him longer term after the 2024 season. Hendrickson had a great 2024 and now he wants to get paid on the last year of his contract. He views them as being "dishonorable" and with only one year left on his contract he knows the Bengals leverage is less. The Bengals don't want to commit big money to an older pass rusher. We can at least be assured that Hendrickson is not playing for the Bengals. Honestly I am also not sure what team has the cap space and "win now" willingness to trade a good (I would say the Bengals aren't taking less than a 2nd rounder) draft pick for him either. It's a sticky situation and I could honestly see it ending with Hendrickson sitting out the year. Nobody is trading for him without permission to talk to his agent about a contract. Theyre going to want a long term extension somewhere... but if they cant get it. The next best for Trey/Agent is playing out his last year in another uniform.... that's going to hurt Bengals bounty. 1year rental, 31 or 30yrs old, high cap hit even just to play out the year. He's def worth a 4th IMO, might be a few offers for a 3rd rd'er if teams think theyll get a fair shake at negotiating first in offseason. Quote

I’m sure if they decide to trade him, they will let the other side work out a deal with him, they’re only costing themselves return if they don’t. He’s worth a 4th as a rental, but if he refuses to play on that deal anyway, there’s got to be a negotiation w the next team. Edited 3 hours ago by DCofNC Quote

They know even though they’ve owned us, they want to ship him if traded to a loser team that Ned’s the talent. Hey, I’d love him too, but I’m practical. I agree but when you look at Cinci's Owner, you have to ask: is he more poor or more desperate LOL they should know they aint competing with us in the next 2 years... get what they can where they can get it 1 Quote

If he's not playing for the bengals under that contract, i doubt he's playing with anyone else. You'd have to at least offer him a raise on the 1yr 16M deal you'd be acquiring, maybe with a guarantee not to tag included. But most acquiring teams would probably extend him so that they could reduce that cap hit for 2025.
