Dolphins Hard Knocks

first time watching the in season hard knocks.  Gotta say I’m not impressed with McDaniel and it sure seems he’s lost the locker room.  His little quips and quirky responses are funny when they’re winning but it seems like they’re getting pretty tired of it, although that could just be how they edit the show.

Watched this episode last night.

The players seemed like they couldn't care less while listening to McDaniels meandering pep talks.

They kept cutting away to the players and they were either bored to tears or looked confused. The dude offered up such awkward, milk toast word salad all week...

But it was an awesome episode watching McDaniels flounder knowing what was coming. Highly recommend.

Also Jerome Baker needs season ending wrist surgery after he tried to tackle Josh Allen on his 3rd and 13 scramble for the 1sr down.

He's like an instructor in a college class who's lost the class but still has to continue lecturing. No one is learning anything and no one is listening to him anymore and all the business majors in the back are just rolling their eyes. Trust me, I've been in his shoes before.

contrast him with the Outside Linebackers coach (forgot his name).  Talk about a fiery guy!

I like McDaniel (at least from what I’ve seen).  He’s an odd duck from an NFL head coach perspective, but his style is kind of refreshing to see.

He grew on me after the profile on his life story. Definitely don't hate the guy. And there's times I think he's hilarious... But I don't think he has the leadership qualities an NFL team needs.

mike mcdaniel isn't real. he's that gangley bug eyed kid from SNL playing the role of an NFL coach while pretending to be a 16 yr old kid in the nieghborhood wanting to be cool

the unnecessary cursing, the look and hands in pocket, the weird bug like movements with the hands, he's a joke and i'm glad he's finally getting exposed.

The cursing did stand out to me when I binge-watched the first 5 episodes last night.  Can you imagine McDermott cussing like a sailor in every team meeting and practice? 😂

He's not a joke, he's just not a head coach. He should be an OC cooking up plays in the lab. You are correct about the unnecessary F-bombs. It looks like he's forcing them in an attempt to be relatable to players, but at his core McDaniel is the Yalee that he is. Also, putting the Yale football helmet in his office is a strange touch.

I like McDaniel, but he does comes across as a guy who doesn’t have the respect of his locker room.

In fairness, that the first episode I’ve watched and he’s trying to motivate a team that looks like they realize they don’t have it at the moment.

The pro-bowl scene where he’s just hanging out and guys are acting like he’s not even there .. I can’t imagine a moment where McDermott comes across that way.

I mean, he may?  The players used to say Marv Levy "sounded like a football coach" when he talked to the team and on the sideline despite "sounding like a history professor" when he talked to reporters.

I honestly don't know how much NFL coaches curse or don't curse when they're with their team and no cameras, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's a lot.

It's not uncommon for NFL coaches to have the team equal or better their previous year's record in their first year.

Then the question is, what happens in their 2nd year and going forward?  Some have a losing season in a rebuilding year, like McDermott did.  Some have a losing season and don't regroup (Gase).  You got to give it to McDaniel that his team's record improved and he took them to playoffs 2 years in a row.

A lot of people here were banging the drum for Daboll, but look at the Giants this year.  Wheels fell off.

That's my read. I don't have a strong opinion on McDaniel as a HC one way or the other but these guys look like they've resigned themselves to a one-and-done at this point.

I’d take him as an OC in a second but I think you’re absolutely correct.  He’s made Tua into an MVP candidate and it’ll be interesting to see what they do at QB moving forward.

Look, I thought McDaniel was a scrubby little runt who wasn't gonna cut it as a coach, but his team went from 9-8 to 11-6.  I don't think they do that without being capable and players buyin in.

So what coach isn't a joke?  Is Daboll a joke?  He's supposed to be a "man's man" who smokes cigars etc. , his team went from 9-7-1 to 6-11

The magic is wearing off in Miami. They are realizing McDaniel's might not be the genius they thought he was and Tua is a 1 read QB with a noodle arm

And now they have to pay him next year, the wheels could really fall off.. his cap hit this year was only 9 mil

Ya and McD came up with 2 near perfect gameplans to get him off 1st read, highest scoring O averaged 17 ppg vs us

he's a joke that he's trying to be that relatable man's man when he's not. he's a yalee frat party boy who got his ***** together but is still a dweeb at heart. definitely on the spectrum, as well.

it's like a child cursing to be cool not knowing the definition of the words they're using.

The issue is any team that has a solid, fundamentally sound defense that doesn't "take the cheese" with all their misdirections and motions is going to shut them down. The ones who don't they will put up huge numbers against because of their speed.

I watched the game again yesterday, and literally even I could see watching on TV that Miami has basically 3 or 4 passing concepts that they keep using over and over again. Screens, short passes over the middle or the deeper seam routes to Hill/Waddle. There is literally nothing else they do. Tua can't push the ball outside the numbers.

In the first half, they were getting us with a bunch of misdirection counters. Bills said F that and basically brought a safety down into the box and went single high from two high shell they played in the first half and told Tua "beat us". He couldn't. Even with Douglas out and Jackson in. Ended with 173 yards and 2 INTs.

Bills started crashing the LOS to stop the run and held Fins to 7 yards on 3 carries.

End result, in the 2nd half Miami went 3 and out 4 times, got 2 first downs, and gained 57 yards, scoring 0 points.

That's why they can't beat good teams, because their system is easy to defend once you stop buying all the noise.
