People making this a political statement are sick. It’s like they love when this happens so they can say “see, look at this problem.” But then ignore every other thing going wrong in this country. And then to act like ANYONE thinks it’s ok to kill anyone is ridiculous. 
 

Here’s the reality. CRIMINALS don’t care what the gun laws are. The same way drug addicts don’t care what the drug laws are. Do these laws make it harder for CRIMINALS to get their hands on what they want? I have my doubts. Doesn’t seem too difficult to find heroin if that’s what you’re looking for. In the same way, a murderer will murder no matter what the law says.

Yes,  its an important distinction,  because the article cited includes those up to age 19.  The vast majority are in the 15-19 age range,  which is where gang related violence and other serious criminal activity also tends to be a major factor.

There will always be evil around us there is nothing we can do about that this is a terrible tragedy !! There were so many people that knew this kid was a problem just waiting to happen it's been talked about by those that focus on the real problem & that was this kids history .

 

My heart goes out to the families & i pray for their strength through this because this type of loss can never be forgotten or the hurt be lessoned in any way .

• Blountsville Elementary School (2019): Substitute teacher accidently discharges pistol from their pocket
•  Central Academy of Excellence (2019): Gang member shoots two after a basketball game near the school

A few years ago at UNT (North Texas, Denton) a firearms instructor teaching a gun safety class that evening accidently discharged a pistol he was showing the class. That was counted in Everytown's school shooting list. 

 

While there ARE horrible events that take place, each one has a different story. Everytown even counts shootings on campus after closing hours... like in the parking lot between gang members on a drug deal.

A couple of years ago, 16 students (and one adult) were stabbed waiting on their school bus outside Tokyo.  In 2019, a man stabbed and killed 19 people in Tokyo. NINETEEN people. 

 

 

 

OK, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_massacres_in_Japan  You're talking about 22 deaths by stabbings in the last 50 years or so. I think we'd all trade that for what happened the other day. It's not an apples to apples comparison.

Look, mass shootings are 4 or more people shot not including shooter and they don't need to die. The vast majority are these smaller shootings at parties between rival gangs, friends etc. Then you have the schools, supermarket types which are the least common but get the most press cause of how many victims they tend to have.  We talk about how many shootings take place in the cities. Well most of those shootings are done by stolen or straw purchase type buys.  They send someone with no criminal history to buy a gun and then the gang member uses in a shooting and they tend to buy them in states where it's easier to buy them.  

 

Start with psych evals.  Red flag laws across the nation.  If straw buyers have to go through a psych e v a l who knows maybe that keeps some guns out of criminals hands?

I've asked the question to you on another thread (I believe)... about the evals you're talking about. Would you check that out? And the def. of a mass shooting varies by the group putting that list out. There 100% is a problem, finding the solution is the tricky part.

• Require a waiting period and comprehensive background check for ALL individuals prior to buying a firearm
• Restrict internet and gun show sales, including kits that can be used to make and modify guns
  • Close loopholes that allow guns purchased from unlicensed dealers, without the instant background checks required by the Brady Law.
• Hold the gun industry accountable and ensure there is adequate oversight over the marketing and sales of guns and ammunition

• I disagree with 'raising the age' to 21. You can go serve your country and die, but can't own a hunting rifle? 
• COMPLETELY disagree with a waiting period. If my daughters are being threatened by an ex, I'd rather them not have to wait 3-10 days or whatever till they can pick up their firearm... so they could possibly protect themselves. And we DO background checks for all buying a firearms. Just not with private sales. How would you even begin to enforce that one? Most people who want to cause harm or commit a crime would never bother.
