Yeah this fees like the EJ Manuel draft. I am not sure teams will reach for guys. But we shall see. I sure hope they do so the talent cascades to 25.

Personally, if I am a team like the Falcons, I stay put and either take BPA or trade down and compile more draft picks this year and next.  And if I really want a QB, a guy like Howell or Ridder has a good chance to be there in the 2nd and I don't think there is much of a gap between them and Pickett or Corall IMHO.

The only guy I would take early is Willis.  If I am going QB early, they better have a very high ceiling if they aren't some sort of slam dunk prospect.  But even Willis isn't someone I would even trade up for unless I was desperate to get someone this year.

Carolina is in a bit more desperate scenario IMO, so I can see them trading up from 6 to insure they get their guy.  They have a good defense and a lot of playmakers on offense.  They are a QB away from contending in the NFC.  Where as teams like Detroit and Atlanta have a lot of holes to fill, they don't need to reach for a QB this year either as they at least have guys who can hold the job down for one more season too.

Although with Detroit, you can make a case that being able to draft a QB without having to spend big to trade up is also appealing, so they may just go ahead and nab someone like Willis if they feel he is worth taking there vs risking not having a high enough pick next year to get their guy and having to trade a lot to move up if they want him.  So they are kind of the wildcard right now IMHO at the top of the draft.

I think Seattle may go for the Safety if he is still there.  Pete loves his DBs and many think he is the best player in the draft, albeit not at a premium position (like LT)

Gotcha, I was finishing up at work.

Seattle needs o line help badly, especially at both tackle spots. They can wait on a QB especially in this class, but why not build the lines for Russ’ eventual replacement?

Cross is a blue chip LT prospect. Penning was in consideration here as well.

True, I actually didn’t realize he was still available. But I would still take cross as safety is one of the few positions Seattle has covered. (Even though Hamilton could also probably play Will linebacker)

I just think building a solid line before a young QB arrives is too important.

With the 10th pick in the TSW Draft, the New York Jets select, Andrew Booth Jnr, Cornerback, Clemson.

This came down to corner or edge rusher and with Carl Lawson to come back and a couple of depth pieces in Franklin-Myers and Huff I just felt like corner was the bigger need and the edge class has better day two depth. I am a huge Booth fan. I think he has the best tape of any corner in the class and while he isn't quite the super long athlete that Sauce Gardner is, he still presents a significant and scheme versatile upgrade which will be attractive to Robert Saleh who at his best as the DC in San Fran was a coordinator who liked to mix man and zone concepts.

That Washington Commanders and @Hermes are now on the clock.

Yes, but I don't expect him to be there in the real draft either.  Its a deep WR draft, to be able to pull the trigger with the 8th pick for the highest ceiling QB in the draft without having to do a pricey trade up would have been too much to pass up.

I do think the Falcons love Pickett though. They were mob handed at his pro day. It wouldn't shock me if they draft him at #8 and tell us that he was their QB1 all along. He definitely has better tape than Malik. He also just fits what Arthur Smith is used to. I don't buy that they are really planning to roll Mariota out all year.

If they don't go Quarterback then I think you are right it will be receiver because at the moment their receiver depth chart is comical.

With the 11th pick in TSW, the Commanders select Devin Lloyd, linebacker, Utah.

A few different positions were in play with this pick, ideally we'd like to trade down and recoup some picks. That's not possible here, so we picked the centerpiece of our defense.

With the Dline set, Lloyd will have free reign to wreak havoc on opposing offenses. He's a do-it-all LB and will elevate our defense the way Keuchly did in Carolina. With a solid defense we're hoping that the offense can take a step with Wentz and get us into the playoffs

  • Virgil changed the title to TSW Mock Draft 1.0 - The Vikings (Doc Brown) are on the clock

Yeah yeah yeah....

With the 12th pick, the Vikings select Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame

I just read this mock and don’t see his name up there.  If he’s still available it’s a no brainer as he’s a unicorn on defense that a creative d-coordinator would love to have given his versatility as his football IQ and playmaking is off the charts.  He’s an athletic freak that can excel as a linebacker, box safety, and roaming safety like he did at Notre Dame.

The Texans @mannc are on the clock…

From everything I read, there’s no way he’s still there at this point. Great pick

And with the 13th pick in the 2022 TSW Mock Draft 1.0, the Houston Texans select Travon Walker, DE, Univ. of Georgia.

We were tempted to go WR here, but WR is a deep group in this draft and the drop off at Edge is significant after the first few guys.  We thought about Matt Corral here, too, but Mills showed enough last year to justify at least one more year.  Walker is a guy we can line up anywhere on the D-line and he will cause havoc.

With the 14th selection in the TSW Mock Draft, the Baltimore Ravens select Tyler Linderbaum, C, Iowa

The Ravens don't really know how all their injured players are going to bounce back from last season, and they were an AFC leading team before those injuries occurred.  We thought about DB, OLB, and WR here, but there's enough depth to address these positions later.  Our biggest need was on the offensive line where we just lost Bozeman to the Panthers.  Linderbaum will be a Day one starter and has a power run style that will benefit Lamar and Dobbins.

The Eagles are on the clock for consecutive picks.  @MrEpsYtown

With the 15th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select Defensive tackle Jordan Davis Georgia.

I was eyeing Lloyd, Walker, and Hamilton and they all went off the board. The Eagles had a ton of issues stopping the run last year. Davis plugs the run in the middle of that defense and is the type of presence they have not had on the D line for a very long time. Pairing Davis with Fletcher Cox improves the d line immensely.

I am still on the clock. Will be up shortly.

With the 16th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select EDGE Jermaine Johnson II, Florida State.

Howie Roseman typically tries to build the defensive line from the inside out, and that is what the strategy is here. In the offseason they added Hassan Reddick and he and Johnson make an excellent pass rush especially in nickel situations. Brandon Graham is getting up there and Sweat and Barnett are good rotational guys to have, but Johnson takes this defense to another level. The temptation is to try to get some help for Jalen Hurts, but I love the Johnson fit so much, it is hard to look elsewhere.

The Chargers and @TPS are on the clock.

With the 17th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the LA Chargers select Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa.

Protecting the franchise QB is priority #1, and Penning will immediately replace Storm Norton who ranked near last in pass-pro last year.  Slater and Penning provide bookend protection for Herbert as the Chargers chase the Chiefs and Mr Lombardi.

@H2o and the N'Orleans Saints are now on the clock...

With the 18th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.... The New Orleans Saints select.... Chris Olave, Wide Receiver, Ohio St.

The WR group is thin outside of Michael Thomas. And who knows how much longer he will be here? They resigned Tre'Quan Smith, but he's a slot guy. Olave will instantly be the #2 in this offense. He can beat you at all 3 levels of the field. He's fast, a good route runner, has good hands, and he understands how to leverage DB's into creating separation. Jameis Winston will appreciate this pick immediately.

They run a very conceptually similar 4-3 to the Bills. While I don't love the value for Davis in that scheme as a 2-down 1 tech, he is more athletic than Star Lotulelei and he was a steady player for us.

Kenny Pickett is still on the board too isn't he? Quarterback is definitely in play. But frankly everywhere except corner and interior OL is in play for the Saints.

I just don't see reaching for a new QB at this point really. Winston was 5-2 last year before he tore his ACL. You also have a new coaching staff and just singed Andy Dalton as a backup. I think adding to the WR group, with one of the top talents in the class, so the QB in place actually has weapons is the right move. We also don't know what is going to happen with Kamara over his altercation yet either.
