Well no that's the OC responsibility.  Dorsey was promoted to 2nd in line in the hierarchy though. I think it's fair to assume that's why he would be next in line.

Josh said he's actually 245# (but admitted he should be 242#).

Yeah they promoted him with the intention of possibly making him OC if/when Daboll leaves.  Whether he's ready to takeover the OC job will be a determination the Bills make.

But who else would people want to replace Daboll?  Be aware that is has to be someone who uses the E-P system.  Want some retread that's been fired several times?  A hot up-and-comer?

Who did Dorsey replace with that promotion?

If done right, continuity is the best thing.  You build an identity and you don't want outsiders to detract from it if it is working.  You risk less of a losing mentality, the type that plagued this team for years.

Although we all know it was Allen's work ethic...

If done right...you don't limit your search to in house only. They are in the mix, for sure.

However where you say having outsiders detracts...that's one possible outcome. Another is it could enhance with the right fit.

Doug Whaley was "groomed" and given the GM job. Doesn't always work well. The best search is a thourough one....including Dorsey and Hall from on house. And if they win it...super.

Why do people act like the coaches are preparing for the Chiefs 24/7? Do we really think they have absolutely NO time to fit in a video interview? The "distraction" complaint is way overblown.

BS. If you’ve ever had to prepare for an interview it takes time, energy and preparation. His head should be 💯 invested in beating the Chiefs. Even 2 days not preparing has potential to bring bad results. Not to mention what he’ll be thinking about during the game! “***** I forgot to mention this or that during the interview! Or damn did I say that?”

You say that, but the giants just took a chance on a GM that was “cutting his teeth” as an assistant. It’s not like Dorsey hasn’t  been learning on the job for a few years now.

The bottom line is, every great coach got their start somewhere. For all we know, Dorsey might be the next great OC. I’ll leave it up to Beane’s discretion. He’s earned the benefit of any doubt.

Exactly. 100%. In fact, I’ll go a step further…make Dorsey OC and don’t even worry with hiring a qb coach. Just keep Webb on the sideline as a backup and let him be the acting QB coach.

And I don’t get why posters assume he wouldn’t be adequate. Goes both ways. Again…I’ll trust Beane in this.

Yes, they took a chance...after a wide search of people. They didn't just look up the hallway and say..."Well you've been here a while. Want the job?"

And what has Dorsey been learning? Can you pin point how exactly he's progressed in his time here? What are his own philosophies when it comes to running an offense? What is it (other than close proximity) that directly tells you he is so well qualified for the job that they shouldn't even look in the event that Daboll leaves?

That's all I'm suggesting. Look at the current staff, absolutely. But don't solely look at the staff. As we saw early in the season with the offensive line..."running it back" and continuity aren't always the best practice

Sounds like a whole lotta projectin' going on here

McDermott made the point that the bulk of the preparation for a HC interview should take place in the off-season, or "it's not likely to go very well".  The preparation for one interview generally feeds into another - it's not like you throw it all out and start over.

An interview can be anything the two parties involved want it to be.  Daboll has already interviewed for the Bears and the Dolphins HC positions.  If Schoen wants Daboll to consider the Giants, they would easily be able to agree to have a reasonable length (1 hr say) interview for the purpose of Mara and Tisch getting to know Daboll and being able to make a decision if they have serious interest in pursuing him, without it taking 2 hours, (let alone 2 days) away from his Chiefs preparation.

The game plan is already installed and being practiced on Weds, Thurs, and Friday.

Daboll can't compartmentalize during the game, he's not the guy we want to retain as our OC.

Timing of this crap is really lame IMO while in mid playoff run.

I'm happy for these guys overall, just not a fan of the when is all.

Me too.  Doubt McDermott is either.  For that matter, doubt Beane is.

I hate that rules changed allowing teams to interview guys still in playoffs

I do too.  Unfortunately, the reasoning makes sense for the candidates and the hiring teams.

If teams had to wait until after the Super Bowl to interview coordinators and then decisions having to be made it really

crunches timelines with the extra week 17 games.

The Superbowl is Feb 13th and the Rookie Combine starts March 1st.

What I don't understand is why don't they start the new season/combine/FA/Draft back a couple of weeks?

Maybe they think that causes other issues?

He didn't replace anyone: Daboll gave up/had to give up duties in the passing game.  The most obvious explanation is because the Bills are grooming Dorsey to be the next OC when eventually Daboll leaves.

I'd be curious what level of interviews all the people going back and forth in here have actually been a part of..

Every interview I've gone to has been a joke. I generally already had the job before I ever stepped in the door. I've never been part of an interview that's on the level of a CEO/Coach/GM/etc, but I imagine most of the stuff that takes real time is done before/after the interview itself.

On the other side of it now and I think interviews are worthless. There's nothing happening in an hour or so that's going to reveal deep secrets about the person. The only impact I've ever seen in an interview still pisses me off because 3 of us were interviewing an potential employee. She knocked the pre-interview stuff we sent her out of the park. In the interview, all 3 of us though she was great, but she swore at one point and the other two idiots voted her down for that because she'd talk to customers.

That said, I think it's stupid and the NFL needs to mandate that all coaching interviews are on hold until after the superbowl. Make every team wait until afterwards even for guys who aren't in the playoffs. Say December 1st until Superbowl is a moratorium on coaching interviews so teams don't have to try to assemble a staff after everyone else has hired because their guy was in the Superbowl.

Schoen already knows Daboll though so maybe the interview was just them drinking beers watching their team emasculate the Pats.

If true thats just dumb. What coach would want to play for an owner who fired a man who got the most out of their team and had them at the edge of playoff for multiple years despite a lack of talent and not spending money... if anyone should have been fired in Miami it should have been the GM. Daboll should not even consider that job. If he suceeds he could still potentially get fired.

The problem with Flores was his inability to put together a competent and competitive  offensive staff. Also his players on the defensive side had to get into it with him In order to go back to the 2020 defensive game plan. He regressed as a HC

Yeah, Schoen knows more about Daboll than probably 99% of GMs knew about the coaches they eventually hired.  I'm sure the interview consisted mostly of how they would approach making the Giants better to make sure they were on the same page.

I view this as a parity thing. Like bad teams getting to draft first, they also get a shot at coaches first....potentially. It really is what they make of it. The well-run organizations will likely continue to do well with their front office acquisitions. Just another reason this is a whole nothing-burger to me.

Yes, coaching is a 24/7 job. Its a lot more than just fitting in a video interview.  An interview such as this takes a lot of prep work.  It isn't like interviewing for your local Timmy Ho's

No, it's like interviewing for shift manager at Timmy Ho's after you've already worked there for 10 years.
