Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake

In the biggest game of the season, his poor instincts in the running game were front and center. 👎

Poor instincts is an understatement, he has no idea where the ball is half the time. Even though they handed it to the RB on, let me check, every play.

Is Cover1 going to do more homer mental gymnastics break downs for this guy?

List all top linebackers in this league, Edmunds doesn't sniff their jock straps.

Our D would fare so much better with Devin White, Bush, Wagner, Logan Wilson, Cole Holcomb, Denzel Perryman, Blake Martinez, Roquan Smith, Dearious Leonard, my gosh this list makes me depressed....

This again? Cool 😎. Can we comment on Dodson getting washed out while railing edmunds?

One of these guys is a depth LB getting paid league minimum.

The other is a team "leader" that is going to be paid 12+million next season.

It seemed like every big running play featured Edmunds hitting the wrong gap, or getting dominated by a 1 on 1 block

Yes, he's terrible.

Now back to Edmunds being terrible

He’s good at what he was drafted to do. 🤷‍♂️. Guy shrinks zones and plays cleanup. He’s Poz with the ability to play zone….. Might want to rail on Oliver for being unable to figure out when he’s being trapped, Epenesa for failing to contain….. when the DL ***** up combination blocks get to the second level. A fair amount of that is on the front four and coaching.

Im not high on Edmunds, but this loss doesn’t sit on his shoulders alone.

I've said it on here in the past that I think our biggest run woes is because we have small defensive lineman and, in my opinion, like big, heavy handed defensive lineman.

Out of all the top linebackers in this league, Edmunds' perceived zone shrinking is not enough for him to be considered in the above average group of linebackers.

We can stop just bagging on Edmunds. Poyer and Hyde missed tackles. Milano didn’t show up until final drive. Hughes. Addison are useless against the run!!

The difference is that those players have a record of making plays. While Edmunds doesn't.

We bag on him because there is a constant narrative, homerism, mental gymnastics (call it what you want) bias that he is this good linebacker. When he isn't.

Oliver is undersized and aggressive. The Colts manipulated that, and the Pats followed suit. Without Star or a beastly 1tech that’s going to be exploitable. Milano shot the gaps a few times and made plays, but that’s not reliable long term. Puts us in the circumstances that occurred tonight…. 3-tech washed in a trap, LBer misses fill, Edmunds brushing over the top and can’t scrape off combo blocks fast enough to cover for Epenesa losing contain.

Edmunds isn’t going to look great without a dominant 1 tech or as a will in a 3-4.  He’s not a downhill LBer. Never was; never will be. If McB is happy with that then they need to find a solid 1-tech that’s more reliable than Star…. A guy who can dominate and allow Edmunds to scrape and get to the edge.

I knew Edmunds was a poor run defender based on his lack of instincts and ability to get off blocks, but wow, he gets pushed around rather easily. On one play it was either the center or a pulling tight end who pushed him and he went flying about 10 yards out of the play. He’s charmin soft.
