This is in about 8 games, after Olsen got injured.  Didn't see many offensive snaps in the rest.

Basically he was a "fringe" starter for Seattle - PS his first 6 games in 2019, #2 or #3 TE in 2020 after Seattle signed former all-pro Olsen.

He's not the TE upgrade I hoped the Bills were looking for, but he's probably 80% of Kroft at 20% of Kroft's salary.

Imo this is absolutely the quality of player that we needed. Would an elite TE be nice to have? Sure, but the ball can only be put into so many play-makers hands. This offense is loaded at receiver. I think a versatile HB/TE with receiving abilities is exactly what this offense was lacking.

I feel like we have been obsessing over TE when in reality our running game is what needs to be upgraded the most.

im happy about this pick up and am excited to see what he brings to the table. Welcome to Buffalo Mr Hollister

Hollister helps with the running game, too.

And some people just like to pretend that they know it all by looking at stats.

No I saw him play and he definitely lost some steps. Granted yes Wentz lost confidence in himself and he regressed badly but that still doesn’t change the fact that Ertz is starting to decline himself and that he was the third best TE on that Eagles team last year. You guys want him because he’s a big name and because of what he did 3 years ago. I’m glad your not in charge of the Front office

TE market has been red hot... Might be more expensive than you think

He may help there?  In the running game, I think he's a better blocker than Dawson Knox, who can block OK when it's clear who he's supposed to block but who seems easily confused about his actual blocking assignment (or stunted around)

I think some people believe Ertz may have been making "career decisions" and kind of discouraged by the play around him and it's more about that then him losing a step.

The thing is, that can get to be a habit

Everyone claimed Josh had no talent around him at Wyoming to justify his meh college stats, so nobody should be happy to bring in anyone he played with.

Dig a little deeper on your research and the numbers Josh put up in his final year vs the year he was playing with these fringe NFL players he had NO NFL talent around him in that final year.

Meh...

We need to get better, as Beane said at the EoS presser, we aren't an SB team. Resigning our own and fringe FAs doesn't do that either. Drafting 2 spots from the end of each round does not get us there either.

Uninspiring...

I get Philly wanted a 3 for Ertz, but perhaps we should have signed someone better than this stiff if we wanted an upgrade. I get it is 1 year, but he doesn't move the needle at all = worthless

I think this is the key!

The Bills used a ton of H Back block action with Knox and he struggled and could not use his athleticism.

I think now you have a better H back (smith was not athletic enough to do this) and then when you want Knox - you can line him up more traditional TE role to allow the athletic nature come out.

Knox becomes your new version of Ertz to threaten the defense.  Hollister plays H back and slides out for catches.

6’4”, 245 LBs. 27 years old. Played with Allen at Wyoming.

As long as this isn’t the only move at tight end, I support it.

He looks like a younger, cheaper Kroft replacement.

Knox, Hollister, Sweeney isn’t enough. I hope they still try to acquire Ertz or draft a guy.

All of you guys worrying about the TE position crack me up.  Knox will take an Allen-like jump this year.

Knox, Hollister, Gilliam, Sweeney is a full room. It might not be as dynamic as we'd like, but it's a full room and a decent room. Probably a bit better than last year.

Need to add a dynamic speed weapon somewhere, whether it's at RB, WR, or TE. And we need McKenzie back.
