Which Defensive player has disappointed you most?

Recommended Posts

Star..... the Bills really need him.

But I understand his choice.

I've pry been one of the staunchest Star defenders since he was signed.  It took a pandemic for skeptical fans to pick up on it.

Me too Doc :)

I posted after reading the title then I seen your post above mine :)

Dawson Knox. I didn't have huge expectations for him but was hoping to see some sort of improvement.

When did they switch Knox to D?

No wonder he is hurt not many players play O and D in this era ;)

Oliver.. He’s supposed to make Edmunds and Milano’s job easier.. So far o-linemen have been getting to the second level regularly.. He’s supposed to be a pass rush specialist but he never gets any pressure... sure as hell cant stop the run! Can’t count how many times Edmunds and Milano have had to eat up OL so Poyer, Hyde and Marlowe can make the tackle.. Poyer is on pace for 130 tackles.. If this continues on our LBs and DBs are going to get hurt.. Oliver is very bad.

This is wrong. Stop making stuff up

Id say Oliver. We drafted him high. I wasnt expecting Donald but i was expecting penetration and pressure. Someone to anchor our defense for the next 10yrs.

but i feel there are so many holes in this defense its hard to only point one finger

Check the advanced stats. Oliver is getting pressure. The only times he has struggled is when they play him at 1-tech.

I wouldnt say Edmunds... he is only 1 player and there is times he the only one in the right spot and he has mutiple guys blocking him. If he got more help around him id think youd see huge plays.

The weak point is obviously Klein. He is always late to where he needs to be which causes mis tackles. If he got there on time it wouldnt be as much of an issue.

Im most disappointed in Micah Hyde. He has been invisible this year. He needs to be a leader and step up when he comes back.

But everyone on defense has regressed. So im most disappointed im everyone

Nfl player rate of infection is almost nil compared to general public and they are tested regularly so to me he would actually be safer playing.  Guy is probably 400 lbs now watching tv.

lots of assumptions in your post. But carry on.

he has an agenda. It’s not really based on fact.

When a player drops off as much as Edmunds has,  I look to what changed.  For him, the shoulder injury.  For the defense, the loss of a true 1-technique DT.  On the Harris KY TD run for 20 yards untouched, I saw Ed Oliver get double-teamed and driven back 5 yards, right into Edmunds.  The Cheats trapped Smith and Harris ran through the gaping hole for the TD.  That play to me is a microcosm of the season Edmunds has had so far.  I'm not willing to write him off just yet, but when things are this bad on the D, TBD demands a victim.  I just hope Edmunds isn't it, because he has shown some real brilliance in the past.  I think he can get back to where he was, but I'm in the minority right now.

I think we give him too much credit for being better the prior two seasons than this year.

He still wasn't an instinctive player and he actually was less of a playmaker as a second year player than as a rookie.

Even if he hadn't been injured I think we were going to see a regression...........the tape is out there.........teams know they can manipulate him and make him play slow.

To me.........this guy was a very good prospect as an OLB who could potentially rush the passer or split out and man cover the best TE's.........maybe a more off-ball capable version of TJ Watt.......but in the middle he is a fish out of water.

Said it before but I have to think his father looks at him in the middle and has to think about how beat up he himself got playing TE and how that shortened his pro-bowl credentialed career and he's gotta' be lobbying hard with his agent to get him outside where the money is and where there is a lot less inherent punishment.

Star for opting out.  Of the active players, Taron Johnson's just been awful.  So much promise as a rookie

If we could only get one guy off the field it should be Taron Johnson. I’m not sure how to look it up but I’d love to know what the passer rating is when he’s targeted.
Can we please try Neal

Many expected with the acquisitions of Jefferson, Addison, Butler, Norman and drafting Epenesa this Defense would become even better.

That's the problem.  And I didn't FWIW.  I didn't know about paying Phillips but I wanted Shaq and i think losing both those 2 plus Star has hurt worse then most thought.

But I did think it could be good if Oliver and Edmonds made leaps.

They haven't.

So we're average.

I’m with you I’m not giving up on him just yet , he was playing at the pro bowl level last year it just seems like the defense as a whole just took a huge step back or regressed this year , our secondary was strength of this D maybe one of the best in the league and this year seems like we can’t stop anybody ,

Wait, let me check our record and get back to you.

It’s been ugly at times. What team can’t say the same thing? We are not “there” yet, but we keep improving. I’m good with that! With a little luck we can make a run.

IMO, They are going teh other way.

Regression instead of improvement.

Next week will tell a lot about this team.

Seattle's Defense is bad. Their offense is unstoppable.

Which Bills team shows up

Weeks 1-4

or weeks 5-8

It's easy to say Edmunds - but he has also made some outstanding plays, and I think we need to keep in mind that the guy is only 22.  I still think his ceiling is way up there.

I wouldn't say Tre has been disappointing, because overall, he has been & is still one of our best players.  He just doesn't seem to be playing as well this year - both in shutting down who he's assigned to, and making the occasional pick or big play.  It's very possible that the nagging back issue is slowing him.

We need to be more stout upfront.  That lack of size has made a lot of other positions look "not quite as good" as we would expect...

I’m talking more about year over year than week over week. I would LOVE to get back to early season form, but the next game will be a tough one to do that. I sure hope we can get back to scoring points, because we are going to need a LOT of them!

You don’t think the offense took a step forward this year ? We finally got our running game going against a team that is good / known for stopping the run , Josh is making better decision and not forcing the ball and is doing a better job of to taking  what the defense gives him , it’s not all doom and gloom as many on here keep f***in preaching ,

we are 6-2 and are leading the division for the first time in decades freakin enjoy it !!!
